  5. Well things were going great! I was showing regularly in the eventing world and was one qualifying ride away from the novice AEC's this year, then the horse I ride coliced, had to have emergency surgery at texas equine back in April (impaction, they had to work it out and no cutting of the intestines was invloved) and I started riding him again at the end of July! We just did an Allison Springer clinic this past weekend at my barn! We had a blast! Going to Greenwood farms for the Novice championships and going for the classic N3D in November! Before he had surgery, Surgery day Last week!
  6. Dang, I pop on here once in a blue moon and find this EqQeen and all of this trolls posts to go with it! haha what a riot!!! I was LMAO the entire thread!
  7. I had him on a flax seed oil and that made him SUPER hot, he was on it for about 2 months and he was just a crazy handful. Took him off of it and he is back to his normal self. Changing feed isn't really an option, the barn only buys Strategy, Edge, Ultium and Equine Senior. So thats why i'm looking into supplements. He was switched to senior because he was dropping weight, and he is missing teeth, drops feed etc. Had his teeth done yesterday so need a few weeks to see results as far as weight gain. I'm sure that was the majority of the problem, but i feel like there is still something else going on.
  8. Thanks! Yes he loves his job! He gets so fit sometimes tho that it takes forever to quite him down. He's completely happy, just want to figure out his coat situation.
  9. I have a 14 y/o TB named Pete who last october was a gorgeous dark bay, kept weight on was in really good shape. Over the winter we had a lot of rain and he is kept in the pasture 24/7 I was out of town for a week and wasn't able to come out and groom him and he just started to go down hill on his coat and weight from there. Got a REALLY bad case of rain rot, finally have that 100% gone now just black hair is filling in all the spots. Come to find out he hadn't had his teeth done for almost 2 years! We just had that done today, but I was wondering if maybe putting him on a weight builder like Cool Calories 100 http://www.smartpake...-100-3725p.aspx would help. He is on 2lbs purina senior and 1lb of 12% Horseman's Edge 2X a day along with hay and 24/7 pasture. He's had blood panels and fecal done, all came back clear. His workload is about medium we do eventing so lots of gallop/conditioning work at least 2-3X/wk (5miles in 40min usually) followed by 2X dressage work (30min-hr) and 1X jumping a week. Hes 17h, according to weight tape is about 1275lbs When I first started riding him back in June 2012 October 2012 (he has a fake tail on in this photo) February 2013, This is him currently, Thinking the winter just hit him hard, but hate to see him so underweight and speckled! Just looking for some ideas, or any experience from anyone.
  10. didnt know you lived in the area! Thats at Lanes End! Is this Carly riding her? Ive seen her post pics of her on FB
  11. I went with the trainer and friends to go school at Greenwood farms in Weatherford TX this past three day weekend, had a blast! Schooled all the Novice jumps and some training jumps as well. Really love this horse! Defiantly ready for the show season this year! Training level steeplechse jump at Medowcreek Novice log combo it was a down bank to this, and you have to pick to go to the right or left of the tree in the middle of the jump Novice level mushroom table and the giant training level table, loved that one! Anyways, just wanted to brag a little I just love this horse!
  12. nun finer or 5 star tack
  13. April thank you! I feel great ;) He turned out to be a handsome guy! Chris, aw eventing is sooo much fun! It's ok I'm jelly of you as a hunter rider, I can never seem to get my perfect equitation down. ;) haha and thank you! I have a soft spot for Pete as well, he's such a fun horse really happy I had the opportunity to bring him back.
  14. I miss getting on here like I used to! Life's too busy it seems haha. I've been riding for a solid 4 months now, lost 25 lbs and feeling great! I brought back a cute TB that was out in the pasture for almost 2 years, started leasing him and we have recently started competing in Novice and I'm going for points and the AEC's for the 2013 USEA shows this year! His name is "Pete" he's a 16.3 14yo TB a blast to ride! Took a while to figure each other out, he liked to stop with me if he couldn't leave long, but now we are starting to trust each other and have really turned out to be a great pair! He has REALLY bad kissing spines, so he gets his back injected, I had a black country saddle fitter come out and I got us a custom saddle, I LOVE that saddle. He used to buck off his old rider, even rear because his back hurt so bad and they never thought twice to check his back. My trainer is the one who caught on to the signs he was giving and had him checked out, turned out almost his entire lower back is fused. Cant share a story without pics! This is what he looked like the first time I ever got him out of the pasture! haha
  15. I would really consider getting the back x-rayed you'd be surprised just how many horses have kissing spines! It's an easy one to rule out if the vet can palpate his back and figure out where he is sore and start the x-ray at that point so your not wasting money on three x-rays of the whole back. TBs are notorious for kissing spines as well. I would really consider this before you starting doing x-rays and injections of hocks, stifles, knees, hooves etc. I totally agree with Rock Solid, skip the chiro therapy and save up your money to go to the vet. Let your vet know that your on a budget, my vet worked with me on making sure that he did a very thorough exam so that I wasn't spending extra money on nerve blocks, x rays etc that he could have skipped. if he truly felt like it wasn't an issue we skipped that part of the horse and moved on to what was more of an issue. A lot of vets want to start with the hoof and they never make their way past that. Wish you lived in Texas, Dr.Honnas is one of the best vets around!
