We lost a great one

12 posts in this topic

So sad to tell you that we lost my husband's paint mare to colic about 2 weeks ago.  He has had her since she was born, and she was just 16 and in her prime.  They had such a great bond, from riding trails, playing games to doing Revolutionary War re-enactments, they were a perfect match, he thought it, she did it.  We are happy with the decisions we had to make on 'the day', but we are devastated and a bit lost.  For the past 13 years, we have spent every weekend together riding our horses, so it's just so sad right now.  He will get another eventually, but no hurry.

Here's a photo of their Revolutionary days - she was a beautiful paint and a confident and brave horse!5908f035c612a_DanandJohnmatchedstrides553.JPG.ee660bbc522d90abfc8fd1da97f2f120.JPG

Beautiful mare. Sorry for your loss.

I lost my best gelding to colic, I don't wish that day on anyone.

So very sorry for your loss.

I lost my first horse to heart issues when he was 16, too. Some horses are just a perfect fit, and they are very hard to get over.

My best wishes to you and your husband.
