Good morning.  I put a deposit on an AKC German Shepherd. The litter isn't born yet, but, the breeder is taking deposits, she has three females and three males, I placed the deposit on the pairing I liked best........ I may not get one first time around, it depends on the number of pups born and, number of deposits received, if that happens, I can use my deposit for another litter or, wait for the next. I'm in no hurry.

Some people, my younger sister included, wonder how I can "replace" Chopper so quickly.  I'm not replacing him, there is no replacement, for my husband and I, a new pup helps with the healing process. My husband wanted to get another right now, but, it's too soon, depending on how it works out, I'll be picking up the new pup in either Oct. Or, Dec.

It's gonna be another warm one, it's been in the low 90's all week, my horses stay in the barn all day, then come out in the evening to graze. It does cool down nicely.

I've got snapdragons to plant, I'm opting for the pots on the porch, instead of the bed I prepared earlier, Because of the stupid no seeums, I tried planting  yesterday but, kept hearing the buzzing around my ears.......I was in town Sunday and, forgot to get some Vicks.

It's turning out to be a sunny day here. I am getting ready to go to work here in a few minutes. Planning on going to the gym after work today. Not much going on here. Didn't do my usual morning ride, woke up with a pounding headache and allergy issues. Oh well. I don't think my horse minded, he got his breakfast sooner that way.

RRW, is the B&B a train car?

PW, I had to cut my ride short. They're putting up a huge tent next door for a wedding on Sat. I wanted to see it but not from the back of a horse. I'm waiting to see what Jubal does when they start raising it.

Equi, different people feel differently about when to get a new a pet. Everyone should do what they feel. I know I missed my cat terribly and I was secretly hoping a stray would show up.

Equi, I've done it both ways after losing a pet and for me, smelling puppy breath is therapeutic. Years ago, I had a long haired dachshund who I adored. On the morning of my birthday, Rusty met a tragic end. My husband felt highly responsible for his death and in his effort to comfort and make it up to me, he said...will you forgive me if I buy you that Corgi puppy you've always wanted? I immediately told him no but the more I thought about it the better I felt. I started looking on line and found a nearby breeder, we picked out a male pup the next day I named Toby. The kids tease me about being disloyal to Rusty's name and Toby never replaced him, it sounds cliche but he did help fill the hole in my heart.

PD, how is your wife feeling?

TigerLilly, what are you painting now?

PW, allergies here on the Gulf Coast are outrageous. I'm hoping this TS will calm them down a bit...give me some relief.

Just some small things. A night stand and end table. Nothing really interesting. My cousin sent them over to be painted before the sale. He also has a big oak desk but there is no way I will finish that in time.

In the 90's today. I went to the gym early. After I got home, I had to run a set of truck tires into a town west of me. There was a semi hauling a very large piece (have no idea what it was). I was at the end of the stream of traffic. The highway patrol were escorting the truck. It was so large, all the electrical lines were being raised plus stop lights. I was so happy to get out of that mess.

I need to mow but have a sinus headache so waiting till tomorrow.

Everyone stay safe if your getting hit with the tropical storm.

Jubal, yes the b&b is on the train.  If it is kept up with cleaning then I can usually get the first class car done in 2 1/2hrs.  Otherwise it takes 3 hours to do the job right per car.  Currently I only have two sleepers on line but also have the dinner that needs cleaning.  Today will start working on cleaning the other 11 bedroom sleeper we have as it is needed Saturday.  Nothing major for cleaning that one but just wiping everything down cause it is dusty.

Equi,  I have never gone long without a dog in the house.  It isn't to replace the one lost but life is better with a dog around.  I have no idea what I will do when George is gone as he goes everywhere with me.

Some people feel they can't get another animal right away and some need to. Each is right for that person.

I also agree that a new pet never replaces.  I think of it as *honoring* your recently lost pet by sharing the love you gave to your former pet with another who is now in need of that love.  <3

Speaking of names, which we were not, my uncle was a horse trader. He and his partner had some doozy names for their horses. They had two that looked alike once named Bo and Bobo.

The tent went up about 100 feet from where Jubal was grazing. Didn't faze him. Nothing gets in the way of that boy and his grass!

QH, I wasn't thinking along the lines of, new puppy, but, my husband made the comment, " I feel like there's a hole,".......that really got me.

Heidi,  I was thinking that same thing, I have enough love for more than one dog in my life, they'll never be another Chopper and, I'm looking forward to seeing what the new pups personality will be.

RRW, we don't go very long without a dog either, it just doesn't feel right, I'm still catching myself looking  for Chopper in all his usual places. We got Chopper two weeks after Loki passed and, we got Loki just weeks after Winston ........you guys didn't know Winston, but, some of you might remember Loki.

It looks like a storm may be trying to brew, it's gotten windier and, a few raindrops hit the windshield on my way to the mailboxes, it will be welcomed, cool the horses down and, get rid of those nasty bugs.

You folks have been busy today, I survived my outing with the wife & cousins today, I had two male cousins there, to keep me entertained, one had no choice, it was his house we went to. We all had a good time, & good food to eat. Some one asked how my wife is doing,  She has had some side effects of Chemo, that make her feet sore & cause swelling in her legs, plus times when her appetite is poor. There has some adjustment made in her Chemo, that should help with side effects, I just hope they are right, as when she hurts, I hurt.  PD

PD, hoping your wife will feel better after they adjust her meds. Glad you had company yesterday.

RrW, your train B&B sounds so fun! I have the fondest memories of our train trips as kids from Houston to Ohio and Jamestown NY, loved the dining car the most, white table cloths, waiters in white coats and the delicious smells.

That's clever! :rotf:

Jubal, hope the wedding party didn't get out of hand last night.

We went up to our son's place and picked 30 lbs. of mustang grapes to make jelly. Dumped them in my sink to sort and wash and thought what have you done!! Pretty certain I don't have enough sugar, small jars, lids and rings to do the job.

QH, when life hands you too many grapes, make wine!

The wedding isn't until Saturday. Meanwhile, I've fallen in love with the tent. I could live in that! I just hope it doesn't blow down in the storms forecast for tomorrow. With the wind coming from that direction, I may be living in it soon!

QH,  we have to wait until fall for grapes in our country, we are just now in the middle of our strawberries,

jubal,  That is nice looking tent, but someone sure has a nice straight fence, I can't see straight, so my fences don't look that nice.

Don't know what the day  holds yet, but that is okay, got several things I can do, just have to get off here & get started.   PD

Ah, PD, photos lie. The fence is really wavy. However, it's oak, and hasn't rotted or fallen down.

Trying to get all of the yard work finished but I just don't have the energy. I still need to push mower the back yard.

Jubal, love the fencing plus your pasture looks so nice. Mine is waist high right now. I plan on brush hogging next week.

Grimmie, looks like you have your work cut out for you. I used to make grape jelly and canned the juice for jelly later.

Well, the men just came in. Hope they are not hungry !

This spot the tent is sitting on is picture perfect.  If the storm does roll through take a after pic.

The tree line behind the tent is where the creek is. And it will flash flood if there is a lot of rain in a short time period. And the field next to it is where the cars will park. The rain from the tropical storm front is already starting. A friend reminded me I have a tractor and for a fee, could pull cars from the mud, LOL. I don't know if the tent is in the perfect spot either. What you can't see is the chicken pen on the other side of it! Or maybe they will be serving fried chicken. :P
