Yes you must have a current AQHA membership to show.

Don't for get you will need an amateur card as well as a membership, if you have never shown AQ you need to apply for a novice card.

Don't be worried, that's really easy! I think if you've never been a member before and you're applying for a new membership that's all on the same online application. I don't remember filling out a separate app for mine anyway and I have my Nov Am card.

I've seen many go to their first show and they only have a youth or amateur card and not a novice one. Thankfully at our shows the show office can have you fill out the novice form right there at the show. So, I don't think they are on the same form when you apply. I renewed after not being a member for over 25 years and didn't know about the novice part until I found out my card did not list me as a novice. I had renewed online and then later filled out a form and I faxed it to them to get the correct card. Was funny is that it took three times to get the right card. First one had my maiden name on it, second didn't have novice on it and the third was correct. flirt.gif

When I applied my novice status was on the same form, but when they sent me my Youth card they hadn't included it (this was at the Congress 3 years ago) so I went to the desk THERE and told them and they had my new Youth card to me by the end of the week. I was extremely impressed, but originally I didn't have to apply separately. And I don't have a separate card.

Probably not. I don't know of any show, including Congress, that even has novice speed events.

hmmm. i think there are probably some smallish ones around here but im going to have to do some research :) im not going to do too much of the breed show thing, more like just the small shows to attempt to get some easy points on him to help with resale down the road if there ever comes a time when im unable to keep him around, what im really looking to do is get into some NBHA stuff but he wont be ready for that (or ANYTHING at the breed shows for that matter) for eight months to a year, im also thinking about trying out for the college rodeo team when i finally transfer to a larger university. (i probably wont get on, but hey ill take a shot at it :D)
