My gelding has a sarcoid on his fetlock, and the vet gave me XXterra cream to apply as opposed to surgically removing or freezing. Just wondering if anyone here has used it and had good results?

Hmm, do we have the same horse? Went through that this summer, with good results. No more sarcoid.

Used it on a couple that my gelding had about 8 years ago. It works great but it will look much worse before it gets better and may leave a bald spot (the one spot on my guys chest still has no hair) but they have not returned.

Thanks guys. About how long did it take until the sarcoid was gone? Im supposed to change the bandage tomorrow but vet says dont be surprised if it falls off when I take the wrap off. That fast?!

Some go in a couple days, some take longer. My boy's took about 10 days. It was about the size of a quarter.

this stuff really works. and it DOES get much worse before it gets better- most cases. Like it will get huge and ugly and gross and then just fall off.

It does work, but you have to keep at it. The sarcoids will sometimes come off in layers, and if you don't keep after them, they just get angry and grow back with a vengeance. Xterra works best if you can cover the sarcoid with a bandage, so you should see some very good results. It's apparently painful to apply, so be prepared for your gelding to protest after a while and take proper precautions not to get the goop on YOU.

I had a young mare like that several years ago. She had 2 big nasty ones. Xxterra didn't work, surgery didn't work, and freezing them off didn't work. They just kept coming back bigger and nastier. So, I had read about a holistic method that had some success and tried it. It's simply 2 ounces of cold pressed sunflower oil and 2 ounces of brewers yeast daily for 30 days. It worked on this mare. The premise is to kick the immune system in to fight them from the inside. The 2 she had were bigger than my hand, but they started shrinking and drying up, and continued to do so for several months, til they were gone. Several others have had similar results, but it doesn't always work.

Well, day 5 and three treatments down, sarcoid is still there. Apparently he is sore because he doesnt like me to even touch his bandages or to apply the cream. Maybe thats a sign that its working... (or not, lol) Im supposed to change and re-apply every other day. Hope it falls off soon...

It worked on the smaller ones my gelding had but he did have about 3 that we had to surgically remove and we've got one that keeps coming back. I may have to remember the treatment you did Oz for if it comes back again.
