The weather has been perfect here , mid 70's calm breeze, blue skys, couldn't be better riding weather.
The problem is I haven't rode in over a week. I don't feel like it. I don't feel like doing much of anything lately.
This is not like me. I'm always on the go. What the heck? Why? I need motivation. I really need motivation.
So if you would be so kind as to chew me a new one surrender.gif . I'd appreciate it. flirt.gif
Oh for those of you who don't know me, I'm old as sin, but that has nothing to do with it rotf.gif
Thank you and have a nice day.

Well, there is a time to rest and a time to say JUST DO IT. If your body is saying "rest please," then you'd best heed it and listen.

However, if it's just the old devil telling you lies (it's too hot, it's too much work, you're too old, you're too fat, you're too skinny, yada yada yada....whatever...), then you need to kick him to the curb, give the horsie a quick curry, tack up and GO! Sometimes making yourself go, pays off at the end of a lovely ride and you say "I'm so glad I made myself go."

Yup, been there many many times! Grab mane and kick on!

JR,

When you find that person to give that swift kick, please send them my way when you are through with them. My horse stands with looking at me when I'm outside, like he's lonely, but I'm mostly doing some kind of yard work, or sitting at this machine in front of me. PD

Ok, I have a couple questions for you to consider -- do NOT post the answers here. Does this lack of motivation and energy extend to other areas of your life? Or is it just in riding. I only ask because for me, a sense of apathy and loss of interest in things I usually enjoy is a sign of depression. My riding goes in spurts. Particularly hot or cold weather becomes a good excuse to just go out and groom a bit and spend some quality, nonriding, time with my gelding. But the healthier I am emotionally, the more I can get past the occasional lazy fit. Or the easier it is to give myself permission to be lazy without feeling bad about it. I only start to be concerned about depression if on a regular basis part of me wants to go out, knows I will enjoy myself if I go out and ride, but stay in anyway.

There is no rule that says you must go out and ride in the nice weather, even if there isn't much nice weather left before winter starts to set in.

Thanks all
I really need is a good old fashion swift kick in the behind. Someone to point a finger at me and tell me I'm being lazy. Tell me to get out and blow the stink off that horse.
Then I'd have to beat you down for that. rotf.gif

Chocomare/equinitis
Ah, I seem to be coming up with any excuse I can to sit and watch the days go by. I think maybe I'm bored riding in the same places. questionicon.gif
Tracy
nope, it seems to be only riding, but of course I'd rather not have to go to work either. questionicon.gif But now that you mention it, I do get the winter blues with the shorter days. Not really s.a.d.d, but blahs. With that being said, I ought to get off this computer and go enjoy what sun I have left of this day. Sure am glad I'm not alone.

Mudder
Bring on that spoon dearie, we'll find something to stir up with it. When are you heading to Texas?

PD
Pop me a cold one and I'll help with that yard work.

Spiffy/QP You're the best.

JR, I heard something interesting the other day. Many people in the US are deficient in vitamin D. And, I wondered if this might contribute to SADD, or even other forms of depression. Might want to check it out. But, it's not recommended that you take a supplement w/out first being checked by a doctor. It's not water soluble, so if you get more than you need, it's stored in your body.

JR, I think you may have answered your own question -- boredom with the usual routine! Can you find a different place to ride or change things up? I've been known to set out a poles or barrel pattern for my dressage horse when we get sick of the arena during winter. I have to admit, I'm looking forward to the first significant snow fall (not *too* soon please) to ride on snowy trails. Once in awhile, I borrow a western saddle and see if I can find Fessor's western pleasure buttons. :)

I was thinking of this tonight -- I cut my ride short because I was so annoyed with everything except my horse. Stuff in the arena that will be wanted for lessons tomorrow, uneven footing, people idling their car right outside the arena door... I felt premenstrual, but the timing is way off for that. I decided not to work Fess hard and get off before my sour mood spread. I probably need to get into the gym and release some endorphins tonight! Why do I mention all this? Irritability can, for me, be a sign that depression is trying to sneak its way back into my life. I've looked up when lessons are scheduled for tomorrow so that I can go after they are done and move all the stuff out of the way for my ride.

Tracy

Good morning smileywavey.gif

I've decided to change up my routine a little bit. I need to get back to actual training the monster.
I still haven't been able to master the side pass in saddle. So we'll work on that this weekend.
He's been on the easy side of things lately. Going for walks instead of making him use his mind.
Tonight I believe we'll do a little bit of ground work. Ground work never hurt anybody.
Might be good for me to use my mind too.

PD
Yay, yay.gif Good for you. Don't you hate when work gets in the way of your fun.

TracyA
You're right. When I'm in a foul mood it spills into everything else. I have to take a step back and tell myself. "My attitude is my own. No one but me can control my actions and reactions."
Did you get to go to the gym? huggy.gif

Sprites Mom
Vit D? I'm going to check into that. If you are deficient in vit-D, do you bruise easy?

SST
I'll share the weather with you. flirt.gif

I wanted to let you know, you all are some of the nicest butt chewers.

Got to get to work.

When I get lazy, usually it's about housework, I make me a list.

I'll be sitting there and that list will be staring at me, so, I say: "Ok, I'll do one thing on the list." You can write a list that says:
1) Go out and groom horse
2) Saddle horse
3) Bridle horse

Now anytime you wanna stop, you can. By the time you get to step 2) you're pretty much almost ready, so why turnback now?

Yes, I did make it to the gym. An hour of brisk walking on the treadmill and I felt much better. I *thought* about lifting weights, but I haven't done that in months. I was afraid I would overdo it and be stiff all weekend. Maybe now that I feel more myself I will try getting back into weight training. But with my pissy mood last night, it wasn't the right time. We are supposed to have seventy degree weather, and I want to spend some time outdoors with the doggies and the pony.

Have a good day and weekend everyone!

Its the time change, I swear it. I have been exhausted and dragging since a couple days in to it. I have been forcing myself to get everything done, but shoot, its not been easy! I remember last winter was pretty rough on me, motivation for anything was pretty much nonexistent. I swear once the days started getting to a decent amount of daylight and the weather started warming up a tad, everything changed. Winter makes everything difficult!

It's almost 6pm here. The sun has gone down. We did some ground work. Well, let's be honest here, I started to do ground work then found myself just playing with him.
I decided to go ahead and trim his hoofs.(yep, I do my own). Then brushed him out. Which lead to braiding his mane. Awe he looked so ashamed of his macho self I had to take them back out.
Yea, I guess just" doing it " is what I needed. Now I have no excessive grooming issues tomorrow. We're riding. I'll let you all know.

What a small world we live in! That okay that he licks the cows, when we bring them in, it is like going on a trail ride, heck if he wants to I think there might be a couple out there that he can lick them into the holding pens...haha
Yeap, I agree, it must be the time change.......plus I still have ALOT of mud out here from the rains we had....which makes for a muddy mess!

Whooo wheeee. I am so stoked.
I went out and rode for almost an hour this morning. OMG it was so nice. I have no idea what the heck was wrong with me but I feel so much better and so much like myself again. I kept thinking to myself, why on earth would you put this off?
To top it off we were serenaded the entire time. A couple of workers were across the street singing in spanish. rotf.gif They stopped when they saw me once but when I told them "more please," they took right back up. If I could carry a tune and knew the words I would have joined in.

Thanks everyone for all your help. You are amazing people. huggy.gif

JR,

Glad you got out & rode, & your horse did well for you, that is great encouragement to go again. So I hope it works for you. All 3 of my horses have made it out in the last 4 days, my grandson rode one to help me out. it was above normal temps & sunshine that pushed out, plus I was caught up on my yard work. Best Wishes.
