If any of you have direct tv you've probably came across the viacom and direct tv argument they are having!

Viacom wanting more money so they are threatening direct tv or they will drop their channels.

I'm really sick of half of my show being covered up by them scrolling information over the tv.

If they do get dropped even for a day I think I will call and try to have my bill lowered this month.

We've had so many issues with them! They claimed we never gave them my parents account number to get 100 dollars off our bill and have charged us for an upgrade twice.

We would drop them but the cable here really sucks and is really expensive.

Very annoying!

Just read a friends FB status about how a bunch of channels just got turned off with DirecTV, so I guess they're still fighting. It is really annoying, especially since you already pay them so you can watch the shows you want!

This and the cost is why we chose to go with an old fashioned antenna along with Netflix. :happy0203: We no longer support the stinkers.

Yeah I can't believe they got turned off! usually it's just a verbal war! I was in the middle of a show when it got turned off.

This morning they are still off.

What a joke!

When we first moved in we had the antena box and it sucked! Nothing came in except 2 channels so we switched.

We do'nt have to pay for internet (his company does) so we figured we'd get the direct tv.

I dint even know about this until just now when I hit guide and all year blue bars that says important info regarding this channel.

They just had this fight with fox networks didn't they? We were ready to cancel them then because that would of ment no sons of anarchy.

Cable and netflix through my Xbox sounds like a super idea! Never thought of that.

yeah they had a fight with the CW here, it lasted like a day. We watch tv land, mtv 2 (during the day), and comedy central a lot.

Try explaining to the 3 year old why her favorite morning shows aren't on the TV anymore! Luckily, I always record a couple of her fav shows just to save on the DVR, so she had something to watch this morning while I was nursing the baby.

Stupid Viacom!

I'm sorry you're going through this, but I'm glad I now know Direct TV pulls this crap too.

Does anyone know about streaming devices like Roku? I assume you buy one then you still have to pay for Netflix or Hulu Plus or some such?

We have a WD box, similar to Roku. The box is a one time buy (kind of the same as buying an antenna for the tv) and then we do pay for Netflix monthly, like $8.43 or something. We could also pay about that much for Hulu plus, but we find Netflix is usually enough.

Yep. Kind of like only having one power company available; or one phone company (before cellphones, if you are old enough to remember that).

It's not Direct that is causing the problem. Viacom is the company wanting Direct to pay more money for the channels that they provide. If Direct pays more for their channels they would have to pass the expense on to the customers. That is way they are fighting it.

I did. All I could find is one mention that one TRIED to buy the other and a claim that the FCC blocked the sale because it would constitute a monopoly. Nothing from a decent source.

If they were owned by the same company, they wouldn't be spending money on advertising trashing each other.

Goatmom, that's what I get from this whole thing. And honestly I say good for them for standing their ground.

I just wish I had some of those channels back, if they won't refund me what I'm paying for those channels, which I'm unable to watch, no fault of my own, then they could at least offer replacement channels until the issue gets resolved...

Yep, they are giving us encore too. Does anybody think this would be a good reason for us to break our contract with them and not have to pay an insane fee? I'm sick of it. Back when they had issues with fox we were dvr'ing family guy and American dad....yea every episode was just a little message saying they were having trouble with fox. Grrr.

Ok I called direct tv last night. Can't cancel my contract but they gave me stars for six months free and they are knocking $20 off my bill every month for 12 months.

My grandson is having Spongebob withdrawal!
And my daughter and I will miss the last season of Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2 when it comes back. Not happy about that at all!

We were laughing about the marquees both Direct and Viacom were running at the bottom of the last Teen Mom on Tuesday night before MTV went off the air.
Each side was scrolling their side of the story. It was hilarious...like a bunch of kids having an arguement!

Viacom claims the 30% increase Direct is claiming is false, they say it would amount to just pennies on your bill.
I don't know who to believe.

I said with all the issues you guys are having with different channels, can I cancel my contract early without getting charged the fees for ending it early? Then she started offering me a bunch of stuff. Haha. I was very nice too, I've found it does no good to be grumpy with these people. I didn't get offered the nfl program though, which I've heard a lot of other people got it really cheap. *sadface*

Well I called and complained and got $15 off my bill for 3 months, and starz free for 6 months.

Its annoying and I'm mad I'm paying for half the channels we watch! Comedy central, nick, nick jr, mtv are the channels we watch around here. They need to figure it out.

We do all of our TV watching through Netflix & Hulu Plus. It's awesome. We pay $16 a month or $18 a month for TV (I don't remember if they're both $8 or $9 a month), no real commercials and if we get busy and don't watch much TV, it's less than $20. We were paying close to $100/month for Time Warner and you kind of feel like you've got to watch a lot of TV since it costs so much. Now, whatever.
