About Me

I was born with "Horse Fever" and never found a remedy. I have ridden English, Huntseat, Jumping and Dressage. I trained and rode Thoroughbreds for the track when I was younger and have re- trained them for pleasure and hunt. I have ridden trails, western pleasure and cowboy dressage/ reining. Needless to say I have broken bones, and, a couple of them twice. The worst injury was a hairline fracture to my pelvis that put me in a wheelchair for a time. It didn't stop me from my passion, but, sidelined me for a little while. What I have learned in my 40+ years as a professional rider is that they all have been my teachers and I learned from "listening to them". They can also teach us humility at the least convenient times, so always keep a sense of humor!
I didn't own another horse until my daughter was 8 or so. During the time prior to that I rode horses with people problems.
I was particularly proud when taking my ArabX to a Horse Expo he was being ridden by well known trainer Curt Pate. Doing an exhibition in calf sorting, ranch roping, and doctoring cattle in the middle of the outdoor coliseum with the crowds, loud microphone, Possum behaved as if he did it every day. My heart nearly burst when Curt gave me a big atta girl for a well trained horse and said," I could really get some work done on the ranch with a horse like that!" Possum had very little exposure to cattle at that time and had previously only been ridden by me.
Possum has been in parades since he was three and I dare say that is his favorite pastime. He is a bit of a ham and loves to dance with the band and show off. I literally have to be tossed up in the saddle to get in line for parades as he will run TO the sound of a band! He is now 20 and shares the pasture with our two Rocky Mountain horses and three miniature Mediterranean donkeys.
I still love them with that same passion as when I was young and can never imagine my life without my horses even though some days I move a little slower and I don't "bounce back" as I used to. I told my husband if they (the horses ) go, then dig another hole for me!! As I have heard it said "If there are no horses in Heaven......I ain't going!"
