At A Loss - Potty Training

09 July 2012 - 05:04 PM

Hi all,
Many of you have probably seen pictures of my brood before. I have a 2.5 yr schnauzer who is a total saint and potty trained but last year I added a puppy into the mix and she has been a total terror lately.

Fred used to sleep with me but was also crate trained and with the new puppy in the mix I had them both sleeping in their own crates side by side.

Anyways the real issue is that this dog cannot seem to grasp potty training. She was doing pretty well for awhile but she just doesn't seem to care about peeing or pooping in her crate/ on herself and definitely doesn't care about going inside. I can take her outside and be out there for an hour with her having peed and pooed and when she gets inside she will go again. It is a never ending battle. Because of this I can never have her out unless I am literally following her around or she is sitting next to me. I don't know what to do.

I helped train my parents dogs and also trained my other dog. I am not sure what to do about this. I imagine that my recent move was probably hard on her and as Fred my other dog was already familiar with the house he didn't care. But regardless this issue needs to be resolved.

So what are some solutions for potty training the older puppy and getting it through her pea brain that she needs to go outside not inside. Any and all suggestions would be helpful. I would at some point like to be able to have my dogs loose in the house when I am not home but right now they are confined to crates because I don't want her destroying everything. Please note that I don't lock them in crates 24/7 just when I personally am not home they can't be running loose.

New Houston Update 8-7-12 (#23)

24 June 2012 - 03:28 PM

Just a little update on Hue. He is 5 now and still growing... (what have I gotten myself into). He has really filled out since I got him and has come leaps and bounds with his flat work. His gangly self still needs to figure out the jumping bit but it is coming along.

I was in California visiting my family for a month and during that time he was getting training rides 4 days a week which has helped a lot. He still gets a little heavy on the forehand but he is also a bit downhill right now.

He got his first pair of shoes put on yesterday and was a total gentleman. I don't have my show schedule set up yet but I will be sure to keep you guys posted with how everything goes. Hue is getting a lot braver and we have started going on a lot more hacks outside. This weekend we went down to one of the creeks on the farm we board at and he was a champ about going into the water. We have been off the farm to go XC schooling but we didn't jump anything. I just wanted to get him out and in a strange place. He did a small bank, water, and a ditch though.

I hope all of you are doing well! :)

X Post - Monogram Saddle Pad

14 June 2012 - 01:37 AM

So my favorite saddle pads are on sale @ SmartPak but I can't decide what to get monogramming wise. I have never monogrammed my pads before but I am at a public facility and like the idea of knowing it is mine without using a sharpie on it and because my horse has a smartpak I get free shipping and free monogramming!

Can't decide on the monogram or the color to go with. (I am pretty conservative so no lime greens or pink for me. )

I want to get this pad: w/ navy trim

Posted Image

And this Pad: navy

Here are the monogramming color options: (you will see the monogram style that i chose on the left)

And for good measure here is the beasty it is for:
And I use all rich/ dark brown tack

TIA for your help :)

Spring Exchange Loot! :)

23 April 2012 - 11:45 PM

I decided to go ahead and start this thread for all of us involved in the spring exchange to post pictures of our goodies! :)

I have received what I am told is part 1 of my exchange gift and it is AWESOME! I don't have a purple lead rope yet so this was a good one! And the clip should keep sticky fingers at the barn from choosing my lead rope as their "ooh ill borrow that one" choice!

I still don't know who my awesome mystery exchange pal is and having never done one of these things I have no idea how it works and when I get to find out? I am pretty sure my pal knows because I put a return address on my package... Anyways post away if you have already gotten stuff in the mail.

I will try to bump this periodically if it falls down between stuff getting shipped :)
