English Starter Tack Set?

02 February 2011 - 11:33 PM

Hi guys I have always been a western girl at heart but took english lessons as well wanting to be versatile. So I have a coming 2year old I'm thinking about doing english with, I am not going to be showing not my thing anymore. I just want to do backyard riding and am wondering if these all purpose english tack sets I see in the 200-400 dollar range are good enough quality. Like will they last me for the backyard riding?

Anyone Use Tsc's Haystreacher?

02 February 2011 - 03:00 PM

Hay is becoming scarse around here and I like to feed as much forage as I can over grain. Our suppler in hay only now has a grass hay left not much better quality then you would feed cattle. I saw TSC has something called a hay stretcher and I am wondering if this would be a good filler for the missing nutrients in our hay. Or what you guys would suggest. We have access to Purina feed dealers but they are limited around here. 2 of our biggest feed companies went out of business this year. We only have TSC close right now and they do not carry the whole purina line which I am not happy about. We have a rehabed coming 2year old and 9 year old, a fat mini, and a fairly easy keeper 11yr old. Right now I am feeding the Purina Omelena 200 and it seems to be doing them well. I don't believe this is the best choice but this seemed like my best option. I am so used to mixing my own feed at the feed mill which I cannot do anymore since they shut down.

Our TSC carries, all Omelenas and the Stratgey's plus some Nurtina feeds which I have never used before. I am not sure what to do as far as feed I'm frustrated and feel like I have been given the shortend of the deal lately.   :surrender: Any help or advice would be great!

Update On Rescued Yearling And 9Yr Old Paint

30 January 2011 - 02:14 PM

Hi ya'll not sure how many of you will remember its been awhile since I posted about these guys and I posted under a different name RebelRydyr21108 Anyhow heres the brief version of how we came across these 2! I was searching for a pony saddle for my sisters mini and came across an ad for a yearling said to be paint cross for $50.00 I HAD to call because I smelled trouble here. Turns out her and another gelding were being shunned from the food as this man was group feeding his horses hay only. I don't feel this guy intentionally ment to harm these 2 as his other 3 horses looked wonderful. He was out of options is how I feel. I was very shocked when I got there he had said they were under weight but both were VERY under weight especially Sammy. They were also covered in bite and kick marks and had horrible feet. I called my sister and her fiance said we got 2 horses coming in. My brother-in-law fell in love with Sammy and Savanna had my heart from the get go.

Once we got them home we realized just how bad they were. Sammy had a severe blown abcess in his hoof causing half of it to hang off. Savanna was the best out of both just skinny and a little beat up. They were dependant on each other to survive at their old barn so this was something we fought for a long time.

I am proud to say both of them can now go outside first or last and they are fine a little yelling but no more pacing or ramming the gates. Both are also back up to healthy weights now just for some muscle tone once spring hits. They are 2 of the best horses I have had in my barn in a long time. Savanna for a coming 2 year old is AMAZING! She stands for feet, grooming, you can play with every part of her body! It seems someone took their time with her. We still have no idea what breed we think she is. She is very long strided and stands 14.2 at were thinking a year and a half old. She was said to be 6months old in March of 2010. Sammy is a bit pushy and forward on the ground but is well mannered under saddle. As long as you are firm once with him he learns you mean business so this hasnt been a problem. His hoof is all healed up and he is back to a good weight I'd like to see a few more groceries on him but vet said he is at a normal weight. I cannot wait to see the change in these 2 after this summer and some good muscle conditioning!

Ok ok enough with the blah blah onto the pictures!
