Don't Know If I've Ever Introduced My Horses

18 July 2014 - 07:23 PM

I've been on here for a couple years but I haven't introduced any of my pets. I couldn't find any pics of Paint Boy, my 11 year old chesnut tobiano, but I have many of Kix and the dogs! Kix is a 14 year old Paint that I run in barrels and poles. You can find his pedigree here: http://www.allbreedp...astee moonshine  (he was tested for hypp- n/n.)

From the show on the 13th.

I couldn't figure out how to post the videos.

Of the dogs. The black and white one is a 1 year old Boxer/Pointer mix (we think) rescue named Lief. The black one is a 5 month old Labradoodle named Charlie.

One of Charlie's favorite places to sleep is the bathtub, presumably because it's cool.

Hs Rodeo

14 July 2014 - 08:52 PM

Also posted this on Barrel Racing, but knew more people would read here.

So, next year I will be going into my freshman year. One of my instructors brought up the idea of High School Rodeo to me on the way to a show yesterday.

I just have some questions that I couldn't find on the Illinois High School Rodeo site.

Is anyone here in high school rodeo, if so, how do you like it, have you had good experiences with the other competitors?

Are there any meetings or anything? I'm kind of confused on whether it's like everyone shows up and does their own thing, or if it's a "team" kind of thing. (I'm sorry if I sound like a clueless idiot.)

Do you have to own the horse(s) you run? The reason for me asking is that I own a 14 y/o APHA gelding that I run in barrels and poles, we started seriously competing last year, and we are just getting our times down to around 18 seconds in a big barrel pattern. In poles we run mid 20's, but we could easily be faster--it's my fault that we aren't. I'm hoping that by the end of this season we can get our time in barrels down to 17 seconds, and in poles under 22 seconds. My question with him is if it would be a good idea to take him since our times are slow. But, the same instructor who brought up this idea said that I could start riding his person barrel/pole mare which is a 7 year old registered QH. She runs around 16.5 on bigger patterns and 15.5-16 in smaller patterns. Her pole times range from 20-24 seconds. I'm not sure if my instructor is going to want me to take her to all the rodeos, so the paint gelding would be my main horse. So my question there is if we would be fast enough, or if it would be a waste of time to bring him.

Thanks in advance to all who reply!

Anyone In High School Rodeo?

This should probably be in the Barrel Racing Teens board but I knew I would get more replies here.
