Here is a question for some of you more wiser types...I'm pretty experienced and comfortable hitching and driving singles, but still learning about teams.

So in the near future, I will have a team to drive, and a wagon for them to pull. So is there a way that one can make a wagon that has interchangeable single shafts and team pole - so if I wanted to use one horse I could, but if I wanted to use my team I could as well.

Could someone please enlighten me?

Also, we were thinking of using this as a frame for building our wagon. My dad is very skilled and a fine craftsman, so as long as we had a good plan we could produce something very nice...we're still working on the plan :D

You can get one setup to have a pole for a team and be able to change over to shafts for single driving. I have a Pioneer wagon gear with a box that I built myself. Here is a link to a description of the wagon gear that I have.

You may be able to get a similar setup from Northern Tool, also?

What kind of animals are you planning to hitch to this running gear? Minis, Drafts?

Bigger animals need bigger, solid attachments to withstand their power in working. Minis, average sized horses and ponies, do need solid equipment too, just not the same heavy kind of
stuff larger animals will.
