Just to start this off I want everyone to know that in no way did I breed this mare, I acquired her in December. I do not condone breeding a mare this young and I would never do it. He has been seen by a vet and he is working very closely with us on this. We are just hoping for the best outcome possible.
Lacy is a 2 years old my friend bought at an auction and later found out she had been pastured with a stud colt. I acquired her in December because my friend was wanting to cut down on horses and wanted to make sure she got the vet care threw out her pregnancy that she needed.
So without further adieu meet Lacy Loo

These pictures are from I believe December when I got her, so they are old. I will get some more today.
Her estimated due date is between now and early March.
I will have recent pictures tonight.

Nothing to really speak of guys other than her complete attitude change. She normally is the horse that takes you FOREVER to catch and she is so little and sly. Lately she has been so in my pocket it is rediculus. Yesterday morning I went out to check on her and she was laying down like she has been a lot lately normaly when I step foot in the pen she is up. Well yesterday her and I just sat together on the ground for about 30 minutes. It was a nice change from having to try and catch her little butt lol. I will try and get some more pictures tommarrow.
I also am getting her stall ready. I am putting in the mats tommarrow so I can put her in some shavings.

hey guys sorry I have been pretty busy lately.
She is still holding on to the baby. For the first time last night I was able to feel it move and OMG it is so strong. I felt it so much more than I did when my full sized mare was preggo, at least at this point it appears healthy and very strong, its hooves were going everywhere while she was eating her dinner last night. She is also stil having the weird lovey attitude. I will try to get new pics tonight for ya'll

It's hard to tell with her being so young and maiden, but I'll try. Too much hair to make much out on the udder. Vulva looks relaxed. No V in the belly, not much out the sides either. The 'niceness' is probably coming from her not knowing what is going on. Just comfort her and keep her comfortable as she gets ready. That's all I can do right now besides sendin' you some {{{{{HFV}}}}}!

Thank you everyone
Lacy has been a bit agitated today pacing a lot. She has a stall with a run and the stall has shavings in it. Normally the shavings stay in the stall as it has a lip on it and she is usually relaxed. Well this morning when I checked on her she had shavings scattered all over her run. Her udder is starting to swell and I think her milk is starting to come in. It is really hard to tell from the pics though with all of her hair.

She definately looks like her tail head is softening.
It still upsets me to see that poor little thing going through this. She's still a baby.

another bit of information i found out is who the sire of the foal is. He is a 36 inch bay paint. Now I am worried Lacy is only around 30 inches how much can that effect her? Will she determine the birth size?
Also does anyone have any guesses as to when she will foal? What do you think it will be filly or colt? also what color?
Thanks for any guesses I am just curious what you think. I am just happy as long as the little cutie is healthy. However I would love to have another filly.

Not to scare you, but if the foal is too big you could lose her as well as the foal. Of course most mares only carry what they can. On marestare there is a cam for a farm that breeds mini's. Earlier last month they lost a colt 'cause he was too big, but they were able to save the mare. It just depends on how big she gets. Right now she doesn't look too big, so she might not have that big of a foal. Usually first time foals aren't very big. My friends bred a 14-15 hand 16-17 year old mare to a 17 hand stallion, the resulting foal was a very tiny (almost miniture) filly. Spiffy's first foal was a small one, but not that small. Like I said it all depends on the mare.
On the sex and color, it all depends. You could do the string/nail test to determine sex, it's simple and you can look for it in threads on here. The color I would say either grey or bay then turn to grey. That's just my guess though.
Good luck with her and keep us updated!!!! {{{{{HFV}}}}}

Mar 9 2009, 09:38 AM
Thanks spiffy I know that there is that risk. The vet also warned me of this but he is not that worried about her because she is not very big at all.
UPDATE
This morning Lacy was holding her tail out, her tail head is VERY loose and squishy, and she has also made progress in her bag overnight. I will try and get pictures tonight. She also hardly touched her breakfast which is completly abnormal for her, shes a pig. She has been laying around a lot and yesterday had some edema on the underside of her belly so I look her on a little walk to get some circulation and movement going.
Thanks for all of the HFV's

Lacy is showing some new signs so I thought I would go out and take pics.
She has amber waxon her teats, her udders are full even though the in the pics it is hard to see(it also is distorted b/c I have to pick up her back leg to get the pics lol) Her woo-hoo is very relaxed and loooong, she also has loose poop and it appears she is cleaning out b/c she pooped 4 times in the last 2-21/2 hours.
It is a full moon and we are having stormy wheather as well I have finals tommarrow but no way am I going to bed.
Body shot in the dark with her new braids.

loooong woo-hoo

i agree she does still have a ways to go but I still want to near on the side of caution with her. I do not want to be caught off guard. My last foaling experience was not a great one, it was also with a maiden. Her woo-hoo was more relaxed the other day and it seems as though it has regressed.

I have been watching this post, thot I would com ein and give you some {{{HFV}}}!
She is a darling! I would say she is a grey? If so, foal could have color but will grey out over time.
You say you have sahvings in her stall? Can you get some straw in there? This baby is going to be a little thing and I would hate to see it get shavings all up her nose!
MissMotherNature
Mar 18 2009, 09:22 PM
hey to all that are interested Lacy is still holding that wittle one in and she says it it not coming out. She has acted close and then regressed and keeps going back and forth with her development, she looks miserable. This morning I woke up seeing two horses on her camera and I freaked out thinking she had foaled without me knowing. Well I looked a little closer and realized those two horses on the camera were my two mini geldings. They had busted into her paddock and were in her stall eating all of "her" hay. They are such stinkers. I will try and get new pictures soon and update. Life has been really busy lately trying to get ready for my recertification in May.
Itchy, yes she has shavings currently however I have straw in the barn and when she gets closer I will take out the shavings and put in the straw. Thank you for the concern though. The shavings are huge though because I worried about that with mom as well.
Thanks everyone

Mar 27 2009, 10:03 PM
hey guys sorry for not updating, I have been VERY busy. Lacy is showing several signs now. She looks and acts miserable. Still not a lot of milk but her whohoo is pretty elongated. Her belly has dropped a lot it seems and she is just generally uncomfortable. Also for the last three days she has been only nibbling at her grain a little at a time now tonight she didn't even touch it. So how long do your mares usually go off of feed? My last mare only did the morning before. Gosh this mare is driving me crazy

. We are supposed to have snow coming in and it has rained all day today. Maybe she will go tonight, she sure is grumpy.

THIS MARE IS DRIVING ME NUTS!!!
She is so uncomfortable and grumpy. She fooled me last night into thinking she was gonna go, bitting sides pawing, getting up and down, loose stool, elongated whohoo, and her bag was very hard and had sticky opaque milk. So I wrapped her tail and nothing ugh, I am exausted right now.
So here are some pics from the last few days and last night
the other day when I let her out to stretch her legs and move around a bit
