Okay, this guy is comingto live with me for a couple of years so I can compete him hunters and eventing. I have not ridden him yet but I have seen pictures of him over fences and he looks great. I have also talked to the girl that has him right now. I have no idea at all about QH pedigrees so here is his pedigree
http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/smokes+aceHere is a picture of him when he was 18 months. I will post more pictures when he gets to my house on Sunday.

I know it isn't the best confo picture but is there anything that really jumps out at you as being terribly wrong?

The photo is too foreshortened...his butt is closer to the camera than his front end. At a glance he looks balanced but i won't venture anything beyond that. I'll do his pedigree however.
He's by Cutter's Smoke who is a crop out son of Mr Gun Smoke. Crop out means he's a QH who was born with too much white and therefor is now a paint. I see no mention of a performance record for Cutter's Smoke. CS however is by the great Mr Gun Smoke, who is in the Cutting horse Hall Of Fame as well as the Reining Horse Hall of Fame. He's a sire of multiple winners in BOTH disciplines. Total athlete.
This horse is out of Cutters Roxie, who placed 4th in the Snaffle Bit Futurity (1973) and she has produced NCHA money earners of $55,796 dollars (cutting). She is by Cutter Bill (foundation cutting sire) and out of a daughter of Royal King x King. King is probably THE main foundation sire for the AQHA, and Royal King was one of his best sons, and again, a cutting horse and cutting horse sire. And that's just the TOP side. I sense a trend here, LOL.
Smoke's Ace is out of Audrey, who has no record. Audrey was by Doc Ecivon x Doc O'Lena. Doc O'Lena who has NCHA lifetime earnings of $21,992; he's a leading sire of NCHA money earners, is in the AQHA hall of fame and sired multiple hall of fame earners. Doc O'Lena is of course by Doc Bar and out of Poco Lena x Poco Bueno x King.
On the bottom i also see some Mr Norfleet, Sonny Dee Bar and Doc Bar again.
This horse is bred to CUT. I'd bet he's cowy as all get out. however, cutting horses (and reining horses) are supreme athletes, so i have no doubt he can jump!

I will get some good confo pictures of him when he gets here on Sunday. His owner says he is wonderful cutting, roping, reining as well as team penning. When he was transferred by his job to Virginia he decided to send him to a Eventer trainer to see if he liked that. From what I understand he loved jumping and has done well in some BN events. He wans to eventually market him as a all around stallion but I keep telling him that there will not be much market for him as as hunter/jumper stallion since he is onle 15.1hh. His owner has since been transferred to NM for 2 years and the eventer trainer is getting out of the professional training business. So he was looking to either sell or find someone else to take him and compete him. He has him sold to someone in TX as a reiner but when that person said he wanted to geld him he backed out of the deal. So he called me. One thing has led to another and he is coming to me. He also wants to work a deal to breed him to my TB mare and keep the first baby. I'm not sure about that one yet but we'll see.
Tim kept telling me he was well bred but I have no idea about QH lines so I wanted a second opinion.
I will be sure to post the pictures next week so you guys can get a good look at him. All the pictures I have of him are action shots.

I dunno, I could see him siring some REALLY cute pony jumpers. Not everyone wants a gigantic horse lol. I cant wait to see some current photos of him, he sounds like a very nice stallion, and the one not so great photo of him, you can tell he is probably a very nice looking horse, as well as very well bred!

He is a beautiful boy. That picture was when he was 18 months old. He has grown up. I hadn't thought of ponies though I don't know why since I have been thinking about breeding my TB mare (15.1hh on a good day) to a pony to get pony babies. I will be sure to post updated pictures of him next week.
The best thing about this guy is his mind. He is the absolutely best stallion and most people don't know he is not a gelding. I am starting to get excited about him coming.
This is him last winter with his daddy

Well I got him home last night but it was dusk so I didn't get any puictures. He is alittle lighter than I would like to see him but I won't kick him out of my pasture. He is also smaller when you stand right up next to him than he looks undersaddle. He is 10 weeks on his trim job and has some rainrot. When I pulled out of the farm I dialed his daddy and told him what I saw - needles to say he isn't very happy with the boarding facility- but he is her ewith me and he is going to get lots of TLC.
audrey-mae - after seeing him trot across my field I can DEFINATELY see him being a pony hunter sire, he has the prettiest flat kneed daisy cutter trot and natural collection.
I PROMISE I will post pictures tomorrow.

I dont know much about confo, but that is a super cute little stud. His feet arent horrid, but they are long. WIth his head held high, he looks off balance, but in the other pics he looks like a pretty decently well rounded horse.
He is super cute. I love those with big tall socks and blazes :)

I think he is cute too. Plus I'm surprised that I don't look like an elephant on him. I knew with his head up he looked out of proportion, that why I posted the pick of my trying to adjust his bridle (which didn't fit had to find my cob sized bridle) to show how he stood naturally. Noone can believe that he is a stud. He is the sweetest most affectionate lil boy I have ever had. My four year old gelding has been beating up on him so he has a few scrapes. I need to pull his mane and get some more weight/muscling on him then I will start showing him next year. I think he will cross well with my 15h TB mare so he will be bred to her this spring as well.

I cant wait to see him all fitted up. Please post update photos of him from time to time!
I am not going to even try my novice confo critique on this but to say one thing ......... WOW

.
I saw Cutter Bill mention in the pedigree, I knew Cutter Bill he was stabled in Ocala fl. at Cutter's Quarters. My neighbor has his grandson . He looked like the Arnold Shwarznegger(?) of the horse world. That was my first expierience of seeing a horse of that caliber.

The first two pics are at an angle, but the rest are good.
His body is well balanced, nice thirds. His hip and shoulder angles are very nice, you can see he's got a wide, open stride because of this. I like everything about his hind quarters: well placed croup, low set tail, low hocks, great angles, long, strong gaskin and well sloped pasterns. From the rear, he looks like his hind leg angles out just slightly (the tall grass hides his feet, so i can't say for sure). However, his leg is straight, just slightly turned to let his feet point out slightly. He's not cowhocked, this is not a fault. That big, well developed gaskin really shows itself from the rear.
He's got a huge heartgirth and well sprung ribs.
His withers are a tad higher than his croup and his neck has the "dip" in front of the withers that indicate it could be tied in better (higher), but i don't see huge issues with this horse. He toes out in front but because of the GLARE on those white socks, i can't tell where it starts, LOL! Also, the angle on that photo is not straight on.
He's a very nice boy.

Bumper - Thanks for the critique. I am a strong believer in gelding almost every horse but this guy is so easy I may change my mind. I really like his personality and he is so athletic! His feet will et taken care of this afternoon so I can start really ridign him (wanted to wait until they weren't so long). He is super light in the bridle and really moves off your leg & seat. I will keep everyone updated on how he is looking and definately post pictures as he gains muscle.
