  1. Almost Monday Cap Chat

I'm off school today for some reason. One of those random days off... Heidi is recovering from a sinus infection and won't eat her medicine. We have a dressage lesson this afetrnoon too. Getting lunch with my prom date in about an hour. I am really really nervous. ahhhhh.
  2. Critique Please?

HEY FATTY! and yes. I have been an (at times sparatic) HC-er for a lonnggg time. and have frequented the eventing board. so I probably am the person in question.=) Thanks everyone! eta: o n the noseband: upon getting to the show my trainers decided my noseband was far too low and tied a knot in it because there was no hole punch on hand, so it was fitting a little funny. 3. Critique Please?

I was wondering if I could get a critique on some pictures. These are from a small "A" show I did with Heidi the other weekend. We did the level 0, 1, and 2 jumpers. Heidi just turned five. We primarily aim to event but are doing some jumper stuff along the way. One Two Three I know my leg can be a bit slippy. Anyway, any constructive criticism on either of us would be awesome. The show went great. She even won one of her Level 2 classes! I hadn't shown jumpers in a while and had a hard time memorizing some courses though...haha.

The vet came out today. He said it definitely didn't look neurological to him. She is definitely back sore on her right side slightly behind the saddle area. He pulled blood to check for tying up, but said it could have just been from pulling a muscle as well and not wanting to be saddled, mounted, etc because it hurts. Anyway, we will get the blood test(s) back tomorrow. Needless to say, she is on a little medication for her back for the next five days and on rest. I'm glad to finally have some idea of whats wrong and not have to wonder why my sweet mare is turning into a mean horse.

What do you guys think about hormonal causes? The bad behavior did start kind of near when she went off progesterone and a few people have noted that it could be something as simple as "cramps" making her uncomfortable. One lady also said hormonal imbalance can cause back spasms. any input?

The vet is coming out Thursday, so I'll update then. My dressage trainer said to lunge her today and tomorrow and observe her movement and see if shes getting better or worse, etc.

She is a warmblood. danish x hano with a bit of tb back there. Does PPSM/etc usually cause a dramatic change in attitude when it appears? Anything else I could watch for?

she gets about five flakes of hay a day plus strategy feed I believe, which is a pelluted sweet feed ( I want to say 11 or 12 percent protein)She doesnt get much of that, just a half a scoop at each meal as she tends to get a bit heftier than desired when overfed. I don't know much about EPSM so any info would be appreciated.

Heidi has not been her self lately. She has been heavier on teh forehand than usual, doesnt want to do good dressage and yesterday it took her several exersizes to jump using her hind endwell. Her attitude has been significantly poorer than usual. I attributed this all to mare mood swings initially. She has always had a tendency to hitch behind, so last week when the barn manager called and said she was lying down and getting up a bit and stretched and also her hind end looked a bit draggy I just assumed she had a gas bubble and they werent used to the way she moved. Today, when my trainer was about to ride her she was striking the ground, rearing, didnt want her to get on etc which is NOT HER. When she lunged her she said her hind end was kind of...hopping. She said I should lunge her for the remainder of the week until the vet sees her friday. Obviously, she was thinking EPM. as was I. also obviously, i would love to convince myself of any and every other possible outcome so I noticed that her cycle hasbeen a bit (very) off lately, longer than usual. I dont know if this could be in any way connected or just an unrelated side effect of her being off progesterone but anyway. Any ideas?
