Congrats! I hope you love it.

California! Where in California? Go for it! It's so lovely there. I miss it terribly.

Bought. We're living in Norway... "houses" are actually pretty rare in the city we are in because there isn't enough space. Apartments are much more common.

Ugh, speaking of houses... Boyfriend bought an apartment that is being built (done in June!!). We had to pick out things like floors, paint, cupboards, etc. The kitchen company said they didn't need to know our choice of cabinets/counters until 6 weeks before the apartment is supposed to be done. We emailed the guy a little more than 7 weeks before it is supposed to be done asking for the price difference between two different cabinets, so we could choose one and then let him know with a bit of time to spare. He emailed back that the kitchens are already ordered and they just ordered the default kitchen for us. What?! Not cool!

Anyone ever do roller derby? Riding has been my "thing" since I was 6, and now that I'm not riding I don't really know what to do with myself. I'm not sure if I'll ever ride as long as I'm living here. So yeah, I need a new sport. Opinions on roller derby? Other ideas? I ski but that's only seasonal, I want something tht I can do year-round.
  6. Are You Happy?

Funnily enough, except for the first few days I was here it has been SUNNY! I'm even starting to miss the rain, because I'm learning that sun = colder weather, here. I'm learning Norwegian, I took classes before I left California and I'm starting classes here this week. I think I'll feel more at home once I can understand what everyone is saying, right now I can only get about half of it and it's a little overwhelming sometimes... but I'll get there!
  7. Are You Happy?

Yes!! I'm in Bergen... I've been here for exactly 3 weeks now. My boyfriend is from here, and we met when he was living in California for a couple of years. He moved back here for work in September, and I followed a few months later. It's gorgeous. :) Where are you located?
  8. Are You Happy?

Hey skjotta, I just moved to Norway a few weeks ago! I read before I came here that it was ranked one of the happiest countries in the world. Right now I'm just trying to adjust to the lack of sunlight, and the COLD, and the prices (everything is so expensive!). But I can see why people here are happy... it's just beautiful, and there are so many positive differences from the states as well: for example, the fact that it's safe for me to walk places alone at night.
  9. Detangling Hair Extensions

I wouldn't use cowboy magic... waaaay too greasy.
  10. Moving Across The World! Any Advice?

Thanks for the tips! I'm registered as an absentee voter already, I'll just have to change my address and everything once I move. I totally forgot about jury duty though... man, so many little things to think about. I've been taking Norwegian classes and will continue to after I move... even though everyone speaks English I'm required to pass a Norwegian test for school. Plus I figure if I'm going to be living in the country I ought to learn the language! :) I'm so excited!
  11. Moving Across The World! Any Advice?

Norway! Bergen, Norway. :) It's FREEZING compared to sunny San Diego, but in all reality it isn't toooooo cold... lots and lots and lots of rain (~230 rainy days a year), but not TONS of snow in the winter... just a bit. Thanks for the ideas, everyone! Those space saving bags are a great idea, I hadn't even thought of those but they will be great for my coats.
  12. Moving Across The World! Any Advice?

My boyfriend is buying an apartment (we met and started dating when he was living here, but he is originally from Norway and just recently moved back there - that's where I'm going)... it isn't HUGE but we will have enough space. I'm going to get rid of a lot before I move (looking forward to downsizing my possessions, actually!), but the thing I'm most worried about is shipping boots and coats, because those will take up a lot of room in the suitcases. I'd really like to buy a winter coat (and snow boots) before I move, because Norway is one of the most expensive countries ever... it looks like it will be cheaper to buy a coat here and ship it than it would be to just buy it there! Crazy. Thanks for the tip about tampons... I wouldn't have even thought of that!
  13. I'm moving to Europe in a little less than 4 weeks (hopefully - still waiting for the paperwork to finish processing). Im transferring to a school there and will be finishing my degree (almost done!) and I am starting to get really excited! I grew up here in California and the farthest away I have moved is Arizona... so I don't have any experience with a long distance move. I'm not bringing anything big (like furniture) as that would obviously be too expensive... but does anyone who has done this before have advice re: shipping options? I am bringing two suitcases but winter clothes take up a lot of room (it's coooold there!) so I would like to ship a few boxes of things, but it's looking like it will cost a billion dollars.
  14. The Bionic Oscar Mayer Weiner Thread

Yeah, this is NOT COOL. For either gender. And unfortunately it happens everywhere, not just at your school.
  15. The Bionic Oscar Mayer Weiner Thread

I took a semester off. WORST IDEA EVER. Once you get into the hassle of transferring schools, having to go backwards (when I started again I switched my major to computer science, which meant I was missing a TON of math classes that everything else built upon), all that stuff... it's just not worth it! I don't know that getting your associates is worth it, honestly. At least in my field it really means nothing. They want you to have at LEAST a bachelors. But if you really don't know what you want to do, then you don't have a ton of options. Honestly, though, if I was in that position again I would have just sucked it up and majored in SOMETHING just to finish, whether I liked it or not.
