  3. Pen Pal?

I am trying to encourage my 1st grade daughter to write more creativly. She has been writing my oldest daughter that is currently in the Air Force and deployed but she doesnt really have much time to write back. I thought I would see if there are any horse-crazy girls that might want a pen pal. Scarlett (my daughter) just turned 7 and is the first grade. She loves horses and has her own pony. She loves all things girly. Really I am looking for someone that would want to recieve letters via regular mail and want to write back. Anyone?
  4. Pen Pal?

If anyone is interested, please shoot me a PM and we can exchange addresses.
  5. Full Metal Jousting Show

I have only watched a couple shows and got bored pretty quick. I just have to comment that any true horsemen (which, most of them claim to be) would not be all that squeamish about cleaning a sheath. It is something that has to be done and gets done by any mature person without any drama. I liken it to walking into a dirty stall and sqealing because there is poop in there. Why use is for punishment? Doesnt make sense to me at all.
  6. Involving Children In Adult Things...

We went to an abortion rally a few years ago in Columbus, Ohio. My teenagers and my young daughter was with us and I was hugely pregnant. While I think it was a great learning experience for my teens I was very uncomfortable and wary in that environment. I would not choose to do that again with my kids. If I had older teens that were aware of the topics and wanted to attend I would go and support them. I would not take younger teens, tweens or young children again.
  7. Any Migraine Sufferers Here?

I usually take Excedrine Migrain and it works well. A lot of mine tend to be less pain and more spots and a weird cold feeling in my head. Hard to describe. I THINK but have not talked to my Dr, that mine might be hormone related. They got worse after I had a miscarriage a couple years ago and I dont really think my hormones have been quite right/normal for me again. Then tend to get worse one week a month.
  8. My Dream Horse!

I am not a fan of color, but WOW!!! Very very pretty
  9. Beware Of Rant-I-Tis !

its not only affecting HC it is in my home too. My brother-in-law, who is disabled and lives with us, just had a major temper tantrum as my very proper daughter-in-law was walking in the door to pick up her kid. Luckily DIL is proper but still has a sense of humour, LOL.
  10. Respect - Given Or Earned

When I read your topic my first thought was respect should be given, and earned to keep. Looks like we are on the same page, LOL
  11. I just finished looking over the daily horse classified. Its a habit, I am definitly not in the market for another horse. I kinda got me thinking though.... When I bought my OTTB 10 years ago, he was my dream horse. Perfect color and zero markings. Perfect height, temperment and personality. My life has changed over the years so he is not quite perfect for me these days but I still love him and actually have been able to get a lot more riding time lately. For a while I thought my dream horse would be (I mean the one I buy when I win the lottery, LOL) a freisan. They are so pretty and magical looking. That dream only lasted a couple years. Now my dream horse seems to be a thoroughbred/percheron cross. The heart, size, grace and athleticism of the tb and the coolness, size and possibly coloring of the percheron. How has your dream horse evolved? or has it? Whatever my dream horse I find that my eyes almost always only catch on thoroughbreds. They have my heart.

  16. Young Kids And Horses

My daughter is 6 now and wants to ride all the time. This is new this last year though. We got her pony when she was a little over a year and a half. The 2 previous years I had a 9 yr old ride and show our pony. The more the girl came to ride the more my daughter wanted to ride. We also did alot of games with the ponies/horses where my daughter was doing showmanship stuff on the ground right with the older girls. My son is 4 and we just got him his pony a couple months ago. He loves her and once on her he doesnt want to stop riding. But he doesnt always want to ride. I dont push, if he wants to he can if not ok too. I also have 2 adult children. My daughter started riding when I got my horse about 10 yrs ago. We got her her own horse shortly after and she loved to ride. MOstly to be with the other kids at the barn. Horses were never something she had a big interest in before but she came to love them and worked hard. My son on the other hand was always kind of scared of the horses (I had 2 big tb's at that time) and probably only rode a couple times ever. He did like going to the barn and grooming sometimes though. I would have to say that your kids are pretty young to have big interests yet. Just keep exposing them and involving them and it and the passion could take root. Get them all pretty pitch forks for christmas and have them tag along. My son also like to scrub water buckets for me and he loves loves loves to bang the ice out of the water buckets, LOL.

  18. Quick Saddle Question

I am and english girl. When I see a 17" hunt seat saddle, I know what that is. I know I want to find a 14 or probably 15" saddle for my daughter. But... western saddles throw me for a loop, LOL. I am shopping online right now. What sizes should I be looking for if I want a youth saddle for a 5-7 yr old? I am hoping to find a used hunt seat saddle for my daughter and a used western saddle for my 4 yr old son who is riding more and more and my current western saddle was not a good one and will not hold up for another rider. Silly question, I know... LOL
  19. Quick Saddle Question

thanks that helps. We have several in the area, a couple new ones. I wanted to get a general idea what they had in stock before I head out.
  20. Mothers Of Toddlers I Have Question

  22. So Sweet....tb Friends

I am in love with Joe. My husband knows, LOL. I always tell him that if I ever win the lottery my first thing to do it to go hang out with Joe for a couple months. Then come home and model a rescue after his here in Ohio. Dreaming..... I loved that letter from Caitlyn. What a great and compassionate kid. Her mom must be very proud.
  23. Jingles For A Bb

    Ohio prayers for Utah!!
  24. This is a child that has no arms and no legs. I am sure the parents have babied her some. But, it seems like they has also raised a very determined child that has overcome a great challenge. I think the school should have made accomodations for this girl. I think a great lesson in compassion could have been taught to an entire school, a place where compassions seems to be sorely lacking in todays youth. I do not think the school should be forced to accomodate or sued. The girl has tried out 3 times and not made the team. I would think as a parent to this child they should have tried to find out the why's and if the school was willing to accomodate the girl before letting her try out 2 more times. A lot of work and hope and preparation goes in to trying out for any kid and to send my kid up there knowing there was no way they would even consider her seems cruel and needless. I love the pep squad idea, that seems like it could be a perfect fit for this girl.
  25. Founder/laminitis

So last week was our county fair which I stay at all week. (I am a 4h advisor for our club) My husband was feeding our horses at home and forgot to double latch the gate of our pony. When he returned the next morning he found the pony out and had been in our sweet feed. I dont really think he ate a whole lot but he does not get any so even a coffee can is way too much for him. We called the vet immediately and have been in contact with him probably 15 times. But I still have some questions... Today is day 3. We started bute and icing his feet on day one and was told to do this for 4 days. The pony is still very sore but is up and moving around without encouragement. We were told that he will not get worse and time will tell of how much he will recover. After day 4 what can I expect? How long until I know if he will recover? I have kept him stalled so far, how long should I keep him stalled. I will need to keep him off pasture from now on right? What should I expect for long term? Do I need xrays? at what point do I need xrays? I plan to discuss all this with the vet after another day but just wanted a clear idea of what I am dealing with for the future and what questions I need to ask the vet. I welcome all experiences please. I have only dealt with ponies that have founded years previously and am stressing out going through this process.
