  1. Dog massacre in China!

Regarding the government paying families to bring their dogs in to be destroyed and how they should have just paid for the vaccinations. I will give the example of my mother. She has pets, she enjoys them. But she does not see the point in "wasting money to take the animal in to be vaccinated." Yes this enraged me when I was younger, however as I got older I realized it's simply a cultural rift. This is how several cultures perceive it. Animals are to be enjoyed and loved yes, but not to the point where you pay extravagant amounts of health care on the animal that could be put towards their own family. That money the government was paying could be used by the Chinese families to pay for health care for their own family, for food, for clothing, shelter, etc. If you had to make a choice between feeding or vaccinating your own child or vaccinating your dog, most would opt for the child. In all honesty, many families would be furious if they realized that money was spent in vaccinating the dogs when the government could have used it towards the people themselves. Now this isn't a personal attack on anyone, so please don't perceive it as such, I'm just trying to offer reasons as to why one decision may be opted as the best route instead of another. 2. Dog massacre in China!

Different methods for different cultures. I'm Asian, I grew up immersed in the Japanese, Korean, and American cultures. They are all exceedingly different. What seems like a horrible offense to one culture seems normal to another. As hast mentioned, the income is severely different compared to that of the US. While yes we consider this to be a brutal death, no matter how much we don't like to admit it, it was a more cost effective death and dealt with the problem immediately. Guns, bullets, sodium pentobarbital, bolt guns, etc. all cost money. And to the tune of 50,000 dogs costs even more. Sodium Pentobarbital can also have some nasty side effects, I used to work as a vet assistant, not all animals died peacefully in their sleep as we would like to believe. The media is also extremely biased. They are meant to produce shock, dismay, outrage. That's how they remain in business, that's how they work their way up to the top and feed their families. Also as we can see from the different numbers of 3 people for 2006 and 2,561 people in 2004, they don't stress on the facts of the situation. Their aim is not for you to take the facts and decide for yourselves the majority of the time. Their aim is to decide for you. Which number was more clearly remembered? The three deaths of this year. Not the couple thousand deaths that have already happened. Also in Asian culture, pets, yes pets, are still not treasured like Americans treasure their pets. Many of us deem a dog to be equal to that of a human family member. Many Asians do not. I am not referring to Americanized Asians either. Before we go off sensationalizing an action another country has done, lets try to see it from their perspective shall we? Over 2564 families have lost their loved ones and family members to rabies, yet our first thought is not for those hurting families, but for the animals. I am not saying I do not care, but let's try and see different angles before we accuse.

I'm a 21 yo female and I found it entertaining What I got to read before the computer went nutso again that is
  6. I keep on having to load up each page at least twice. The first time it says the page cannot be found, then I'll have to refresh at least once before it goes. After I refresh, everything is misaligned and the colors are all messed up. None of the icons or buttons work, they all appear as little red x's. Like the little light bulb icon or the Post Reply/Post New Topics buttons. Is it HC or just this stupid freaking connection? If it's our connection I'm so ready to take this crummy line and dump it down the sewer lines to be mauled and attacked be the sewer cats and rats that dwell there!
  7. Prayers, good vibes - anything!!!!

You know I'm rooting for you!
  8. Got a job!

lol! I totally, forgot I was going to make a thread saying that you guys jinxed me a couple days ago! She's already called 3 times at midnight. No 3 am'ers yet. Apparently finding out that a friend from elementary school got his girlfriend pregnant is too important to wait till the next morning in Tadd's opinion At least the phone is upstairs now. KM School starts up the first week of Sept for me, and Sept 11 for Tadd. I'm looking forward to it HFF Maybe I'll be the cook for the bar now? Serving everyone up sandwiches and wraps Hmmmm Sorry Az and Hola, Tadd was little ticked off too I'll keep my fingers crossed for the two of you though!
  9. Dressage Chit Chat Thread Vol. 7

Pics? What pics? LOL Sorry We went into this place site unseen We ended up lucky though. We love our new place, it's by far the nicest out of the places that we've lived in. We've FINALLY finished setting everything up (except Tadd still has to unpack his clothes) and the internet is finally running a bit smoother. The tennis courts are quite literally right out our front door. Down the road is a huge pond to the left. To the right in a little strip mall with a gas station, pharmacy, fitness center, a couple little stores, and an awesome ice cream place with homemade ice cream. They really make you run the gauntlet to go to the gym, you have to go pass the entrances of an ice cream shoppe and a chocolate candy store in order to get into the gym LOL Wonder who planned that one out... We've already seen several deer, I guess there's a black bear that cruises on through a couple times a month. Our neighbors have a wild cat living under their back porch that just had a litter of kittens 2-3 weeks ago, I'm looking forward to seeing them venture out. The area is drop dead gorgeous, it's so lush. You don't even know there's anything around you, then boom a small city appears. We've about 8 minutes away from a lake as well, and within 20-40 miles of about 6 ski resorts and several state parks. We're in heaven! And awesome news. We went job hunting today. I was told by the first four places that they weren't hiring. Then I popped into a little sandwich shop. The woman was hanging up a sign as I walked up to the counter, I figured it was the "Open" sign. But nope! It was a Help Wanted sign. No interview or application, no resumes or cover letters, wham bam I had a job She immediately asked me what days I was available. I start on Friday at 10:30. Whew what a relief! Now that I've got the internet a little more figured out I can mod again with some decency too School starts up in a month, then I've got my sister's wedding to go to in two months. Good grief, time flew by! Hope everyone is doing well!
  10. Got a job!

Thanks guys I'm anticipating it as my easiest interview ever LOL Good luck tomorrow Hola, is it Az? I'll keep my fingers crossed that it's just as easy for you Thanks Hollie and LTR, it's nice to be unpacked and finally off that god forsaken interstate. BTW now that we're finally settled in, Tadd should finally be able to mail that "item" to you
  11. Got a job!

That was ridiculously easy We set out at 11 am to go job hunting. I got a "we're not hiring" at the first 4 places I went into. Then I walked into a sandwich shop. The woman at the counter was putting up a sign in the window which I thought was the "Open" sign. Nope it was a "Help Wanted" sign I got the job right off the bat, no interview or anything she just told me right away to come in on Friday at 10:30
  12. The dressage forum has been getting a lot of threads regarding shows, tack, and buying new horses, which is great and everything, but I do occasionally miss some of the old discussions we used to have So in an effort to get a discussion going more towards the actual sport of dressage, I thought I'd create a thread for us, in which we can take different movements and training methods in dressage and dissect them. This thread is a more theoretical dressage thread. For instance, while you can ask questions on "Well how can I improve my free walk?" I am hoping that this thread will be able to incite questions that are more theoretical and inquisitive in nature. For instance, discussing on how a particular movement demonstrates what assets in a horse, and more importantly WHY those are considered assets. We can discuss movements, training methods, equitation, classical, etc. etc. So to start us off, how about we begin with the basics: What is the importance in the free walk. Why is it put into a dressage test. How does it apply to the horse and rider outside of the arena. What skills does it demonstrate and why are these skills important? 13. I'm Backkk

I'm on dialup now, (stupid slow connection) so I might be able to post pics tomorrow, depending on if I don't kill the computer first! I haven't gotten any new Buster/Inky updates, but we drove past my old barn on our way out and Buster looked great He was out playing with his buds when we drove by. We actually got in at about 2:30 am on Wed night. Relaxed on Thursday got the internet and phone hooked up on Friday, and then Kirk went home on Sat. We drove 9 hours on Sat, 13 hours Sun, 9 hours Monday, 2 hours to my sister's place on Tuesday which was a lot of fun, we stayed there overnight, then did the last 14 hours Wednesday. Not an experience I want to repeat!

Anyone even notice I was gone We've finally finished our trip to Arlington and our move. We're almost entirely unpacked. I'll post some pictures of our new place once we've got everything hanging up. It's bit cluttered right now since we haven't completely finished. It's gorgeous out here though! I'm so glad we moved. Anyway, did I miss anything special while I was gone?
