  1. Hives.

I've always treated hives with a Herbal Immunity builder. blood cleanser/immunity builder. I had one horse who was having repeated break outs of hives, and it fixed the problem with this horse. No I start there first, if I'm able to rule out envir suspects.
  2. Shapley's MTG??

It grew hair back nearly overnight for a terrible case of fungus that our mare got one time. I love it for tails. I've not had a problem. It does smell like gack though! I don't have a before/aft photo.
  3. I need info from breed shows

I don't have specific information, but we ran into that at my daughters highschool equestrian team meets. At the Reginal/State level. Last year was the first year we experienced the problem. Anyone with a decent camera was ran off, harassed and badgered by the official photographers. It was terrible.
  4. Remembering a great horse...

Thanks for sharing Dear Dakota with us over the years you two. He was such a sweet heart. He had such a wonderful family. I know he knew it. many hugs and many condolences.
  5. Dumbest thing you've done with a horse

quote: Originally posted by parabola: This is both dumb and extremely embarassing - I still turn red in the face when my trainer tells people this story. So I had been away at school (freshman year of college) and came back for the weekend to visit my horse. Now my horse is a plain chestnut (not a bit of white on her) and an extremely easy keeper. I walk out to the field and go over to her, horrified that I'm seeing her ribs sticking out on the side and looking sickly/not herself. I immediately freak out, bring her into the barn, and my mother whose been with me this whole time walks up to the house to go talk to the barn owner/trainer and ask how long she's been looking this way. While my mom is up at the house, I put the horse in the stall and start looking over her very closely. The horse is not at all acting like my horse (ie: very, very grumpy and opinionated), and whoa, her head is not at all like my horse's. GUESS WHAT? IT WASN'T EVEN MY HORSE. I figure it out by the time my trainer and mom walk back into the barn. I look up with an embarrassed smile as my trainer is laughing her butt off. She had just gotten the mare as a rescue the week before. My mare was still pleasantly plump and grazing in the field. But the rescue mare was a plain chestnut mare too, and they looked VERY similar. I still feel bad about the fact that I couldn't even recognize the difference. Yours is my favorite! Meanie trainer!!!!
  6. Dumbest thing you've done with a horse

I was bringing in the horses the other night. There are only 3 horses at the farm. I brought in the first and put him in his stall. I'd made sure the barn doors were closed, but I didn't think about the stall that stored wheelbarrows, shovels, picks, muck buckets (which had an open door). I had a hold of barklay, (because I knew he'd not go into his stall if I just let him in the barn. Well his goofy friend was as bad as barklay and ended up in the stall with all of the dangerous items. He thought he needed to look out the stall window. I about died. He's flightly as it is....and he had to back up to get out As calmly as I could I tried to back him out the same way he came in. I think my only salvation is I'm carrot woman. And I think he sensed my hesitation. Mr Giddy wasn't giddy and did as I needed without hanging up a leg in wheelbarrows. phew. Another really dumb thing. Never try a new bit on a fizzy horse bareback. He hated. I nearly died.
  7. Horsecity Prayer Roll

I could use some thoughts unfortunately. I have some (doctor said a *bunch* - lovely) of lumps in my breasts that weren't there a year ago. Shouldn't be a big deal, but just the same, not a comfortable thing to hear - and now we have to look into it/them. And my cervical disease hasn't settled down. It's advanced again, even after end of feb surgery, so I go in for two more scans (that doesn't sound right, I don't know what it's called)/and ultrasound to see what's going on this time. Fingers crossed that last weeks tissue comes back okay. and prayers for everyone else as well.

  10. riding in jeans

We have a saddle shop where you buy a new saddle, and if you decide to change sizes or upgrade within 3 years, you are giving 100 percent of what you payed for it in credit towards the new saddle. As long as you've not ridden in jeans with it. They have it in writing that it voids the contract if you do not ride in breeches. They find that jean riding causes more wear and tear than they can deal with when flipping it after you turn it back in. Just some food for thought.
