Thanks for your input! I shall keep you updated!
  2. Good dogs with horses

Hi everyone! I have a few questions about what breeds of dogs you have, and how they are with your horses. I grew up with dogs (yorkies), currently work in a small animal vet hospital, and am halfway through my undergrad planning for vet school. The reason we had yorkies was because they didn't shed. My family is kind of split on the decision of getting another dog , but I have my younger sister convinced! Idealy I would like to adopt, my mom wants a puppy and would be willing to get two dogs then. They can have their toy dog, I want something thats not afraid to jump in the truck with me, go to the farm and get dirty! I was thinking Australian cattle dog, jack russel, or boarder terrier. I've had some experience with all of these at work as well as with other horse people. If you have any comments or suggestions, I'd love to hear them! Thanks!
  3. question about MTG?

I know people swear by the stuff and I gave it a try...it was ok. It depends what you want to used it as. My appy mare grew a long thick mane (i was very happy), but she is also on a hoof suplement. I used it on her tail and her skin became very dry and hair did fall out so I stopped use there. I do not use it on her anymore, didn't not see results I was aiming for. However I have used it at the barn I work at for horses who have rain rot, and it works very well for that.

When you buy a print, you are buying a personal copy of the photo. You are paying the photographer for-I guess you could call it a licence to keep the photo in your home. Yes it is a photo of YOU but that does not me YOU own it automatically. They technically can not use it for their own advertising unless the get a model release from you (i think). The photographer has the COPYRIGHT laws on their side. They own all images they produce and have the power to licence or give away the photo for different uses. You can post images on the internet- if you have PERMISSION. Write to the photog and he/she will most likly give it to you maybe just asking for their copyright or name to go along with it. Wouldn't you like your work and skill to be recognized? Not trying to sound nasty, but I have been burned a few times with people stealing photos from my site, and I know how that feels to have your work stolen. Copyright Law
  9. Only Horse nut at your house?

My family has become more accepting of my horse obsession. They didn't really have a choice after I bought my first one. I have had alot of horsey wannabes in my family and the real deal in there too. My cousin rode for 2 years- dropped it and went to chearleading. My aunt had two horses for 3 years before I was born. She got bored I guess. I'm currently brain washing my sister into it (shes in first grade) with my little ponies and pony rides on my horse. Now the real deal: My great grandfather was a calvary rider for the italians and my other great grandfather was a horse trainer/ eventually standardbred track owner. But currently, I'm the only one into horses.
  10. Black Western Tack? San Daranto??

I love black tack (only because it will always match, the different shades of brown bother my eye a bit). I cound a nice black headstall and bought a western wintec to go along with it when I first got my horse. For starting out- it was perfect. I didn't need to worry about rain or anything, it fit my horse, fit me great. The saddle is three years old and doesn't show it at all except for the dust on it from being in the back of my truck. My only complaint is that the bars of the saddle are very strait, and my mare's back dips the slightest bit- so there is not full contact at all times (a thick er wool pad helps). Bottom line is- yes its synthetic- It's not build like a tank. It is very lightweight and good for knocking around in. Trust me- I KNOW how hard it is to find black leather saddles that fit! It is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack!!! I just bought a used simco on ebay the other day, and I had been searching for two years. Don't forget there is also leather dye!

  13. Simco Saddles?

Hi Everyone, I found a nice "vintage" simco on eBay and I haven't had any experience with this saddle brand. The saddle is in beautiful condition, well taken care of. It is a reasonable price and i like it, based on the measurements it will fit my horse. Can you tell me more about Simco? Thanks in advance!
  14. NY get's hit with COLD weather...SNOW PICS

I'm in north jersey and the change in temp is a shock to us too. We are and have been prepared since november, but we just got a little too used to the nice 50s and 60s!! My horse isn't complaining, but I am! Brrr!
  15. How old was the oldest horse you ever met?

The oldest pony I knew was a 42yr old shetland mare. Oldest horse was a 38yr old qh gelding that was still used for lessons until a month before he passed.
