  1. Mark Rashid in Tennessee

no, I haven't figured costs, times or formats - this was just an initial inquiry to see how much interest there was ... and the anwser is probably 'not enough' !

ah ! I'll take that as a 'No' then !! That explains why there are no clinics or anything for miles around then ... nobody is interested !

  5. Teaching Turn on the Forhand...Problem

Tip her nose towards you as you ask the butt to move over. You can always 'bump' the leadrope towards you to get her attention if you need to. Remember to reward the slightest try on her part so that she knows she's getting close to the right answer.

... would anybody be interested in riding with Mark Rashid in East Tennessee, near Knoxville ? There seems to be very few clinics held anywhere near this area ... so it looks like I'm going to have to start getting proactive and do some of the organising myself if I want to learn from some of these people. How about Kathleen Lindley, his assistant ? I can arrange a good venue if enough people are interested... and the number of riders doesn't actually need to be that many. Kate Wooten, Knoxville, TN

  9. Dressage's Frequently Asked Questions

great post, thankyou. Perhaps someone could make it sticky ?
  10. dressage show pics

Wow - what is he ? He has a really high knee action in that third picture- just like my little mare ( she is 1/2 saddlebred ) And he's very cute, you both look great. What does the judge not like about him ?
  11. Critique??

I was just wondering if maybe he could drop his head a touch, which might make it easier for him to round his back and step under a bit more ? Kate

Your saddle looks like a pretty nice one ! I ride in a general purpose saddle, and I got to look at myself reflected in some windows the other day, and my leg is way too far forward. When I put it further back, with my knee nowhere near the knee rolls, I actually felt a lot more stable. I could sit with my calves just touching his ribs, and I felt just as balanced as I do bareback. I prescribe lots of bareback and no-stirrups for both of us !! Kate
  14. Lets get to know everyone.

well, us old folks gotta fight back !! I'm Kate and I'm 37. I hadn't ridden for nearly 20 years when I got my two this spring. JoePony - 15hh arabian x QH 3yr old, who's been real easy to start, and Eden's Rose (Rosie) 14.3 Saddlebred x arabian, also 3yrs, who is much more complex. I started both of them and their doing great. We don't have a trainer or truck or trailer, so we're a bit isolated, but hope to start doing low level dressage next Spring. Believe it or not, I learn everything out of books even colt starting!! [ 08-23-2005, 11:05 AM: Message edited by: kwooten ]

Hi there, you two look happy together !! How do you feel you look in the pictures ? It's more important really that you have a clear picture of how you, the horse, the saddle etc fit together. To my eye, it looks like you're not yet sitting deep enough in the saddle - don't worry that it's not a dressage saddle. In the first couple, your butt is too far back (but that's cos you're getting him to gait I'd guess). In all of them, I think your leg is forward - drop a line from your ear through your hip to your heel - I think your leg is forward of that line. I would ride a lot without stirrups if I were you. Practise lots of the exercises in e.g centered Riding, or Jane Savoie's Cross-Train your horse book. I'm just re-staring myself - after 20 years off - so I'll be posting pics too - I think it's a great way to learn and develop and internal 'picture' of what's going on. Kate
