  1. I'm sorry your garden slow. I thought mine would never take off, but once it stopped raining and the sun finally made it appearance, things have been going crazy.
  2. My garden is going crazy! I have picked 4 summer squash in the last 4 days :) Peppers and eggplants are coming on. Tomatoes are almost taller than me with tons of flowers and some green maters. Cucumbers are up to my chest on the trellis and there are tons of flowers.
  3. How are things going with Dusty?
  4. Mmm, sausage! I like to make my own so I know exactly what is in it.
  5. Fish emulsion is the best!! My tomatoes are up to my chest (I'm 5 ft 9in) with fish and lots of water.
  6. @grimmie, yes, make sure you water a lot. Especially if you have raised beds with loose, potting soil type dirt. Once they get dry, it takes a LOT of water to get them back. I use a soaker hose under straw in my raised beds.
  7. My breakfast this morning was a smoothie. Whole milk, frozen blueberries, hemp hearts, chia seeds, flax seed, cocoa powder, stevia and bee pollen. Tasted like a blueberry chocolate milkshake :)
  8. @grimmie, they are really good! I got the recipe from my Mom, no idea where she got it. @RailroadWoman, I've never used black beans, but that does sound good!
  9. This is off the top of my head, I'll check the recipe when I get home and update if I need to. 2 cups dry pinto beans 1 onion, chopped Bacon 1/2 cup oil, lard, or bacon grease 1 T chili powder 2 cloves garlic, minced 1 T ground cumin salt and pepper to taste cook beans till done, then add the rest of the ingredients and cook some more. I like to cook the beans overnight in a crock pot, then add everything else in the morning and cook all day.
  10. How do you use the eggs? I tried frying duck eggs and was not impressed. I did like baking with them though.
  11. He who pays the feed bill gets the eggs :)
  12. Hugs to you Heidi. You are doing a good thing
  13. Work till 2:00PM, then home to do whatever. Not sure yet. I do have some houseplants that need to be re-potted, dinner to make, laundry, ect. I'm sure I can find something to do. Equi, my thoughts are with you today.
  14. I wash the tomatoes, cut them in half or quarters, put them in a large pot and squish them a little to release some juice, then simmer till they are cooked down and thick. Then I run through a food mill or sauce maker to remove seeds, skins and stems. Cool, then place in freezer bags and freeze. I use 1 qt bags and put in 2 cups of sauce, squish the air out and freeze flat. It will keep for at least a year this way. I do not season or salt my sauce when I'm making it.
  15. Ended up having burger patties and steamed veggies. Boring, but yummy. Tonight we had pan fried fish and steamed veggies. Low carb strawberry shortcake for desert.
