  3. Ropers!

Hey there i use a Magnet xs head rope, i find that i have been making a lot of neck catches with it until i remembered i was taught to aim for the left horn and since i have remembered that i have been catching horns not necks!

  6. Mutton Busting. . .

When i was younger my parents entered me in it! I loved it, it was fun! I of course had protective gear on... if my kids want to do it i would let them for sure!
  7. Crow Hoping While Throwing Rope

Thanks for your advice everyone! i have considered my saddle being the issue since my mare has a flat back with hardly and withers. When i bought her and used her at several ropings i used the same saddle and never had a problem, after the rodeo where she bucked me off she started to crow hop, i had someone tell me that she now thinks of it as a game because she got me off b4 so she will try it again. i will try and change my saddle and see what happens, if there is no change and she continues to crow hop im not sure what to do, i already am having some trust issue with her after all this.
  8. Crow Hoping While Throwing Rope

So here is my issue, i have a lovely 14.2hh 7 yr old palamino mare, she heads, heels and breakaway ropes. She is calm and cool in the box and can track a calf like no tomorrow and she puts me in the perfect spot to catch. When i bought her i tried her out several times, she had a hard stop but nothing i worried about, she worked great for me. I had my first rodeo with her and i was pumped so when i went to throw my rope as soon as a leaned forward a touch she tucked her head and start to crow hop and i ended up on my butt....but none the less i did end up catching! So now its just a big game everytime i lean a bit to throw she starts to crow hop. I practice at home trying to push her through the hops and not let her anticipate when i am gonna throw. Does anyone else have anymore advice? Thanks
  9. Your Horses And Bad Weather

My horses dont have very much shelter outside, if its a warm summer rain i leave them out and they luv it! but if its a cold hard rain they would much rather be inside. Usually if there is a big storm i will bring them in but i know if there was a chance of a tornado i would rather them be outside and able to run if need be. In the winter they are outside during the day ( depending on the weather) and inside at night.
  10. Mares Or Geldings. . .which Do You Prefer?

I dont mind either of them, mares and gelding each have their pros and cons. I grew up with all geldings it wasnt until 3 years ago i got my first mare. I have one mare who is a squeeler and very bossy when in the field but is a doll and harder work when in the arena, and 2 that when they come into heat they are sooo lazy and laid back its nuts, most of the time i cant tell their are in heat! My one gelding steers clear of the mares and dose his own thing and my older gelding thinks he is a stud and mounts them. All and all nothing is boring at my barn!
  11. Two New Boys To Play With

Your horse looks great! Just a quick question what kind of bit are you using and how dose it work?
  12. Calling All Ropers!

Neck catches are better than nothing but you have better control if u catch the horns...well thats what i have found anyway :)
  13. Two New Boys To Play With

    wow luv them both!
  14. Christmas Parade Pictures!

Aww they look great! such good ponies u have!
  15. Old For A Horse?

No i dont consider that old, 25 and up is getting old. My old roping horse was 33 before i retired him and he was 36 when he died...now that to me is old!
