I gave Mr. Butters the soaked alfalfa cubes last night and the night before. He didn't finish them and I figured here we go with Mr. Picky pants again. Tonight Im happy to say he licked his bowl clean. Maybe it was the time I spent making sure every cube was soaked and seperated. Yep, every last cube. Thats ok though as long as he eats it. Supposed to get some winter weather in tonight. Ice, some snow, freezing rain. Glad I dont have to work tomorrow. Anyone read any good books lately? I just finished "Under the Trestle" about the 1980 murder of a local college student and Virginias first no body murder trial. It was extremely interesting, and I highly recommend it. Spoiler alert..the jerk is still doing life and still won't tell where the body is. I searched all over town today for the next book I want to read "One day she'll darken" by Fauna Hodel. No library or Barnes and Noble had it. Looks like Ill be getting it off ebay and then donating to my little local library when Im done.
  2. Just a Quick Hello (Sage Pictures)

Ooo what a pretty girl!!! Nice saddle too! Good luck with nursing school, dont forget to take a little time for yourself.
  3. The Front Porch

Lol arent minis always starving?! That ones actually pregnant in her defense.
  4. The Front Porch

Pics of my makeshift stalls. Sonics stall is on the far end with no one next to him because he likes to reach over and bite bootys. Bad boy. The sides stay put and I just take the front panels off when Im done so they all can still hang out in the barn together. Theyre just tied to the pole with paracord.

My stalls came in super handy again tonight. They take minutes to put together and make things much easier in the pouring rain. And, the horses have gotten the routine down as well. They seem to be thankful for a warm dry spot to eat their dinner and relax. I go home while they eat and come back in a couple hours. This gives Mr. Butters time to eat his hay, which he is doing VERY well now. Hes not leaving much behind like he was before. Im super happy about that. Now if I could just find some regular alfalfa bales instead of the compressed. Ive decided to give him hay on my work days and cubes on my days off. This way Ill have plenty of time to soak the cubes on my days off vs. my work days. I think hes getting better, very little by little, but Ill take it.

Those pics weren't mine/me..they were RailroadWoman.
  7. The Front Porch

The alfalfa gods were good to me this evening, compressed bales were on sale for $18.99. I picked up a bag of cubes too.
  8. The Front Porch

Aww, she reminds me of my first pony.
  9. The Front Porch

I think he looks a tiny bit better. Ive had that same crap adventure X10! Years ago I was riding at a barn all the way across town from me. The barn owners went on their honeymoon and left me in charge. Their faucets froze and so I hauled water in rubbermaid containers in my backseat all the way to their farm. It was quite the adventure lol.

His topline had always been a struggle. His hind end and those ribs are what depresses me.
  11. The Front Porch

Couple pics of Mr. Butters yesterday. Maybe hes gained some weight in the bottom of his belly. That hind end though is atrocious. My local feed store is all out of alfalfa hay and not sure if they'll get more. Looks like Ill be making the switch to cubes, or buying the compressed bales. Ive looked at the Kalm Ultra feed my farrier suggested and it seems as though Triple Crown Senior is covering every thing that the Kalm Ultra contains. I am considering adding Cool Calories to his feed.

Happy Valentines Day! Made some chocolate covered strawberries for myself. I might buy some half priced roses tomorrow, lol.
  13. The Front Porch

Guess what yall?! The farrier came today! Lol. Everyone got trimmed and I havent heard any complaining from the landlord...yet. I took Benny and Faith with me to the farm, mainly because Benny has been up all night for the past 2 nights. She needed some exercise, and she got it...4 hours of nonstop running and playing. She is completely passed out in my lap right now. A tired pup is a happy pup, although she stinks to high heaven of a combination of horse poo, cow poo, and mud. I asked the farrier if he had any input on Mr. Butters. He suggested Kalm Ultra feed by Tribute. Its a 12/12/12 feed with prebiotics and probiotics. Im willing to give it a try. Gotta find it first.

My stalls came in handy last night. It was pouring rain and cold. Put them in their stalls, gave them their grain and some hay and went home for a while. Came back and let everyone back out. Worked out very well. Mr. Butters is doing much better with his hay. I just wish I could say that hes gaining weight. He is not, not an ounce and looks horrid. He does feel well and is spunky/perky. I dont understand it.

Everything Wolfbane Productions does is fun! So glad I found them last year. Cant wait for their season to start this year!
  16. The Front Porch

My brother and I went to a Murder Mystery dinner last night. The production group whos plays I frequent put it on. It was set up as a wedding reception where we were on the grooms side, the Texas Merrygolds..cattle rustlers and oil tycoons. The bride's side were hippies and tree huggers. We were given character names and descriptions. The story took some twists and turns but we both made it out. The food was absolutely delicious, the alcohol was mixed just right and the show was a lot of fun. Of course we dressed the part as did many others which added to the fun. In my honest opinion, the plays have been much better but we had a wonderful time. My brother had a really good time and is totally hooked now, hes coming to see a play when the season starts.

Her sister Frankie turned out to be gorgeous too, just like I thought. I gave her to a nurse at work and thought she'd have a wonderful life. Boy was I wrong. This idiot left her out in violent thunderstorms etc. Eventually she got hit by a car. Broke my heart and I kick myself every day for not keeping her too.
  19. The Front Porch

A couple more... First one is of her and Faith at the farm yesterday. Faith is my girl that just got over an obstruction. Shes totally back to herself. Second is of her cleaning my old girl (17) Jennas ear.
  20. The Front Porch

Omg I have TONS! I never ever thought Id own a hound but I love every hair on this girl, and she loves me. She is the best girl ever. She had a ton of fun chasing the geese at the farm yesterday. First pic is of her last year Second pic is of her last week. Shes a fat hound dog lol. Third is how she lays on the couch with me. Her head is always on my neck. Last one is how she sleeps next to me every night. Ignore the red nose, I was fighting a nasty cold. Shes grown SO much in a year! She loves everybody and every thing. Wish I hadve gotten pics of her and one of the minis chasing each other the other day, too funny!

Yesterday was such a beautiful day. 75 degrees and sunny and I loved every minute. My pups did too. Rode the blind appy in just a rope halter. Back to reality (work) today.
  22. The Front Porch

    Mr. Butters yesterday.
  23. The Front Porch

Happily exhausted is what I am. It was a beautiful day today, sunny in the 60's that felt much warmer. Spent most of the day at the farm. My cowgirl helped me clean the barn out. We shoveled out years of old poo that had turned to dirt, both of us using muscles we didn't know we had. I let her mom know she might need some advil tomorrow. The landlord helped too! I got all my corral panels in the barn and set up, so now I have a few stalls for nasty weather. Benny got to run for hours, swim in the pond, chase geese, play with the minis, you name it, she had a great day and is pooped. Faith piddled around as she usually does and is completely back to herself although shes not enjoying being supervised outside. I may look into underground fencing for her and Jenna. Mr. Butters piddled around the farm all day. I left him out intentionally so he could eat grass, and he did and had a wonderful time. Ive included a pic of him so you can see what Im dealing with. The camera added pounds that really arent there. And, I have found that he is quidding. He just had his teeth floated what a month ago when the vet was out? I dont know what else to do. All in all today was a good day. Having issues uploading the pic. Will try again later.
