  1. The Front Porch

My plan is to soak them.
  2. The Front Porch

Ive left him in there for hours to see if he'd eat it all and when I come to let him out hes standing on the opposite end of the stall from the hay, sleeping. Lol. Sometimes he eats more, sometimes less, but he always leaves more than I like.
  3. The Front Porch

So, Im seriously contemplating switching to alfalfa cubes for Mr. Butters. He is still leaving more hay than I like. But, wouldn't I have to feed A LOT of cubes to compare to hay or to even make a difference??
  4. The Front Porch

She once ate a whole diaper. How she managed to survive that, I'll never know.
  5. The Front Porch

Yaaay for poop! Faith just had a poop..I had to help her. Looks like she did have a blockage afterall...looks like she ate an old washcloth. I think its all out as it was a good amount of poo. She should be much better now. Never been so happy about dog poo lol! Ive got all my corral panels together and will put them in the barn tomorrow. One of them is a bull gate and it weighs a ton. I hate it, but I'll happily use it til I get a lighter one. Mr. Butters enjoys eating his hay in his stall while the others watch. I let Sonic clean up what he doesnt eat.
  6. The Front Porch

I mixed a can of dog food with some rice and Faith ate a handful at 1pm, 3pm, and 6pm. Shes kept it all down. Looks like she's turned the corner, thank goodness!

Just a quick update on me and my pup. My car is over at my landlords shop getting its oil changed and a new light bulb put in, so that stress is relieved. I have decided to go ahead and get a used washing machine vs. saving for a new one. I can get a new one when things calm down. Just have to wait til my brother has a day off to haul one home for me. That will relieve a lot of stress. My landlord was able to scour the farm for me for a few more coral panels to make stalls in the barn. He said that building actual stalls in the barn have been on his "to do" list for a few years, along with sliding doors on each end. Hes just so busy between his body shop and managing 60 rental properties. I told him that it was no hurry, the corral panels would work for me perfectly. I got a stall made yesterday evening for Mr. Butters to eat his hay in. I'll get a couple more in this evening. Speaking of hay, the compressed bales at Tractor Supply have gone up to $20.99. I cant swing that right now after having Faith (my sick dog) at the vets. Hes going to have to do with the alfalfa bales from the local feed store for a little while. I have found that the compressed bale lasts about as long as 2 bales from the feed store. Faith is still not much better. She ate a small handful of boiled chicken yesterday evening, and has refused everything Ive offered today. She did come to the farm with me yesterday evening and walked around some. She is drinking plenty of water and urinating. Latest bowel movement was yesterday, small and very strained. Shes not lethargic like she was but quiet and still obviously not feeling well. I haven't given her the antinausea med since she has kept the chicken and water down but I think I may go ahead and give it to her this afternoon if she still hasnt eaten. Maybe then she will eat. Im still worried about her. Shes a pretty tough girl and has never been this sick, even after eating some pretty gross stuff. Dr.'s appt went fine yesterday. My blood pressure was good enough not to need an increase in med dosage, although it has been better. Had some bloodwork done just to check kidney function etc and I follow up in another 3 months. My cowgirl turned 12 the other day. She came to help me yesterday evening. I hadnt seen her in a while because its been so cold. I hugged her tight but fussed at her for being out in the cold. Ive missed her. She helped me tremendously of course and then sent one of her Breyer like horses home with me so I could glue its broken leg back on lol. My teenage girl comes home from the residential treatment program any day now and we cant wait to have her back to play with the minis. Stay warm yall!

OMG! Where do you live?! Can I share this pic on Facebook?!
  9. Just a small update

There is always a need for phlebotomists! Great idea. Glad your moms are doing well after their surgeries.

Seriously thinking about going to my vets office and having them print out my vaccine records for my animals and finding a new vet after refusing to bill me yesterday. I know for a fact they bill other folks, my landlord included. I have always paid at the time of service, in full, hundreds of dollars. Yesterday was an emergency. The more I think about it, the last 2 farm calls I scheduled didnt go as planned either. I understand how busy vets are, but he was hours late both times with no courtesy call to inform me. Its kinda been one thing after another and Ive just let it all slide. Yesterday was the final straw. My previous vet allowed me to make payments when there was an emergency or something unscheduled. I just still can not believe that they had my friend write them a post dated check. Friends and coworkers have told me of other vets in the area. Faith ate some chicken last night when I got home and kept it down. Shes drinking water but now refuses anything to eat, doesnt matter what it is.

Hey guys. Ive been sick for a few days. Feeling better today...kinda. I'm so stressed right now I want to cry. Mr. Butters is not gaining weight. I hit a dog the other night. A headlight in my car has gone out and I don't have time to put it in so I'm risking being pulled by the cops on my way to and from work. One of my (new) tires was really low last night and I'm afraid I may have bent the rim. I have a follow up doctors appointment tomorrow for my blood pressure and I forgot to take my medication this morning. Ontop of that, my dog Faith has been vomiting for 24 hours so we wound up at an emergency vet last night. Followed up with my regular vet today. A friend took her since I couldn't get off work. They charged me more than they quoted and then refused to bill me. I paid $50 over the phone and then they had my friend write a post dated check for the balance. I'm so aggravated with that office I COULD SCREAM. I am an established customer there and have always paid my bills at the time of service. Whether horses or dogs, or even the stray kitten I found, Ive always paid at the time of service. They couldn't bill me this one time?! I'm ready to get rid of this vet altogether but don't want to cut off my nose to spite my face so to speak. Ive had 2 whole hours of sleep this morning after getting home from the emergency vet, no dinner last night, and no breakfast or lunch today because Ive been a ball of nerves. And, I hit a cat on my way to work this morning. Can I throw the towel in now?!
  12. The Front Porch

There are support posts but electric wont keep out those pesky mini noses lol. Im also trying to keep in mind that unless I stay in the barn and supervise, one of the other horses is bound to rub their behind on whatever I put up..so Id like for whatever I put up to be solid so I could step away and do other things. Hence my need for the panels.
  13. The Front Porch

Yep, thought about that too ;-) Thought about lattice too.
  14. The Front Porch

Yes, but I need to be able to remove whatever I set up easily. These stalls wouldnt be permanent.
  15. The Front Porch

Hmm, Id have to talk to my landlord about that. I do like it.
  16. The Front Porch

Im watching CL like a hawk. The only reason I want/need stalls in the barn is because feeding in the pouring rain sucks. My current feeding setup is open with no shelter.
  17. The Front Porch

I have no doubt the landlord will not want me driving in Tposts in his barn. I already thought about that lol. The corral panels is what I really need/want. I may talk to him today to see if he has any extra hanging around. He has bigger fish to fry right now..8 degrees last night brought many of his renters frozen pipes..including me!
  18. The Front Porch

noponies - those are what I have but I dont have posts. Railroadwoman - I did look on Craigslist yesterday. Even if I found some I dont really have a way to transport them. I would have to wait til my brother could get them for me...and I know someone would snag them before I could. Im going to keep looking though. littlecow - I doubled up his blankets tonight, its going to be 8 degrees. As I was changing blankets on him, I see no weight difference. He is plenty perky and is doing better with his hay.
  19. The Front Porch

Havent hit the daytime high of 31 yet today. Just spent a couple hours at the farm trying to figure out how I can rig a couple stalls in the barn...to no avail. I really need 4 corral panels and dang they're expensive. Ill look around the farm this evening and see if I can find a couple hanging around but I doubt it. My Benny dog got to run around like a crazy pup the whole time. Havent taken her to the farm in a while because of the mud..figured it would be ok today since everything is frozen. She had a good time, even took a short dip in the pond. I swear that dog never gets cold. Shes asleep on me now. Lost my knife somewhere at the farm and I spent a good long while retracing my steps to no avail. I do know it was closed though. Hopefully Ill find it this evening. Mr. Butters did well last night with his grain and his hay, didn't leave as much hay as usual. He seemed pretty happy last night, and he was plenty warm under his blanket so I didn't double up.
  20. The Front Porch

Gonna be 12 degrees tonight and windy. Thinking about doubling up on Mr. Butters blankets depending on how warm he is with just the one. Gonna be a high of 31 tomorrow. Ugh, ready for spring.
  21. The Front Porch

Mr. Butters is doing fine. He ate more of his hay last night than he ever has. With that said Im buying another compressed bale this evening. Oh, and the landlord "apologized".
  22. Sending thoughts and prayers
  23. The Front Porch

Between him and the hay someone is going to find me in a corner rocking back and forth! Meanwhile at work, I just wheeled a little old lady into say her goodbyes to her husband. Hes a patient of mine expected to expire in a day or so, and shes a patient on the other end of the hall. I would feel terrible if he expired without her seeing him one last time. So today, I have her camped out in his room, holding his hand and talking to him although he can't respond. Originally I had 6 patients to care for today, I dont mind one more.
  24. The Front Porch

Just put him back out. He was still up and munching a few pieces of hay that was left over from last night. Hes his usual self tonight. Ill actually sleep tonight. Thanks for listening guys!
  25. The Front Porch

This horse is gonna be the death of me, or a mental breakdown. Good news! Hes up tonight, met me at the gate for dinner and even tried to plow through me at the gate. Hes his ol self. He ate his dinner (I fed him light tonight) and was working on his hay when I left. Ill go back down to turn him back out in about a half hour. Ill update again after that.
