Not quite feeding yet. Shes been soaking the feed for Sonic and Mr. Butters. So by the time I come down to feed its all ready. She does help bring the horses in and feed, but not all by herself yet.

Be still my heart... I bought a dry erase board for the feed room so my cowgirl and I can communicate on my days that I work and wont see her. For example, I work the next 4 days and wont get down to feed until after her bedtime. I took it down last night and wrote her a note thanking her for her hard work. Today I spent the day with my brother and his family and am just getting home. It had poured rain most of the day. She had called me on my way home but I had run into a convenience store for a snack and left my phone in the car. Her number always comes up "unknown" and Im not able to call her back. I thought that maybe she didnt go down in the pouring rain to soak the feed, so Id stop by and check since theres enought time for it too soak before its late. Sure enough, she had done it....and responded to my note on the dry erase board.( I'll post the pic in a second, the website is being funny.) I almost teared up.

I just want to brag on my cowgirl a minute. My day at work yesterday was horrible. It started with not one but 2 patients on the floor, a stroke, and one nearly code blue. It only got worse from there, as if it could possibly get worse. I had 2 post op patients, one of which was confused and decided to take a walk on her new hip. The other post op was very demanding at the smallest things. 3 other patients needed help toileting, one total care, and one jumper we had to fly out at the change of shift last night. Of course I stayed late to help the flight crew pack him up. My entire body hurt so bad and I was so exhausted that when I was nearly rear ended by an 18 wheeler last night, I didn't even care. Hats off to the 18 wheeler driver who was able to think and act fast and avoid me. The car in front of me had come to a screeching halt for a deer. I followed him for a ways hoping he'd stop for fuel so I could hug him. I was so exhausted, but I had horses to feed. I went to the farm, and my cowgirl had remembered to soak the feed....even on Halloween when most kids would be thinking of trick or treating, she remembered to soak the feed. I sent her mom a text telling her to give her a huge hug for me, she'll never understand how helpful she was in doing that. Made my night.

Well, for some reason I had a doubtful feeling that my cowgirl did her part of the feed routine yesterday. But I was wrong. She remembered and is feeling quite proud of herself. Im looking into takingng her on a real trail ride. I think shes definitely ready, and deserves it. We have 2 minis to clean up and take sales pics of in the next week. Shes super excited about that. Im cutting back on my 2nd job so I can enjoy the nice weather and horses for a while too.

We'll see how long it lasts. I anticipate she will forget one evening and then be very disappointed in herself. It will be a good lesson.
  13. The Front Porch

Maybe far into the future. I have a pretty good track record of picking the wrong guys, so I'll just hang out with the kids for a while lol.
  14. The Front Porch

I sure hope you find someone to spend time with soon. No one should be alone.

Eyes..have the eyes looked at. Ive been on both extremes of Appys. Ive been on some wildly crazy Appys. The Appy mare I have now I wouldnt trade for anything, but her eyes are bad.

Thank you! Ive spent a TON of money on these horses/ponies/kids, but in the end its the memories that matter most. They are doing great in school. And yes, school and homework always comes first. So does a good attitude at home etc. In trouble at home? Then no horses. Low grade? Lets discuss it, lets go up in the barn and learn it/study it...but no horses til its fixed.

She is now prepping the feed for me. I asked if she wanted to take on more responsibility, and she jumped at it. Mr. Butters and Sonic have been getting a quart of beet pulp and a quart of alfalfa pellets soaked in addition to their grain. I have been soaking it at home but when I work 12 hour shifts I feel like thats too long to soak, and its making my house smelly. SO...we put the beet pulp and alfalfa in thier buckets and leave them on the shelf in the feed room. When she comes home from school she goes to the barn and puts water in the buckets for me. So by the time I get off work and come down to feed, its been soaking for a couple hours. I told her if she forgets to just call me. Today is day 2.

It rained here all day yesterday. Cold, pouring rain. My cowgirl helped me with the horses yesterday evening. The Appy was shivering so we blanketed her and my other 2 were already blanketed. We noticed the 2 minis shivering so my cowgirl came up with a plan...we would blanket them and put them in the small paddock for the night and then she would take their blankets off and turn them back out this morning. I agreed since they haven't had much time to grow their coats back from being clipped for the last show. I had to modify the belly straps on one but both blankets fit. Got them on ebay a couple months ago in anticipation of this very thing happening. I was sure that the little stinkers would rip them though, theyre always biting and pulling on everything. Curious little critters. Took them both a minute to settle down once I put them on. I went over how to take them off with my cowgirl several times before leaving last night making absolutely sure she would be responsible enough to remember to go down and take them off and have no trouble catching them and turning them back out in the field with everyone else. The minis seemed happier already when I left. I texted my cowgirls mom this morning to see if she had remembered to take the blankets off and she had just gone down to the barn to take care of everything. She didn't let me down! She called me to let me know that everything had gone just fine, she took her sister with her just in case. She said Margarita must have rolled in the dirt because her blanket was filthy, lol. She said it was drizzling just a little so she put the blankets upstairs in the barn so they wouldn't get wet..and neither tore or ripped their blanket. She said both minis were warm and dry. I'm very proud of her!

Forgot to tell you guys that my landlord found time to bush hog the fields. With a few sprays of Showsheen (got it on sale!) in the horses tails, they arent picking up but a couple burrs. Yaay!

In many years past this was quite a production, with several horses etc. Nowadays we're just barely hanging on. Most of us are already on the train, interacting with the passengers. I'm accusing cowboys and passengers of stealing my stockings, and then trying to "hide" my 2 horse thieving girls from the sheriff. Our script is very on the fly...so much so that we're basically semi-organized chaos. The passengers never know just how unorganized we really are, lol. On this ride the train stopped about after an hour (used to be about 20 minutes) to let us off to do the gun fight. That's where the ONE horse came in with a few good guys. We get off the train and the gun fight begins. Theres usually more of us.

Yes it was chilly, but nice. And yes, but shes been much much better.
  22. The Front Porch

Greenbank West Virginia has no cell service. Google why, lol
  23. The Front Porch

The first 2 are the only ones I took. My cowgirl with her cap gun, which they dont make like they used to. And the teenage girl Haley and her boyfriend. He came along not knowing he was going to participate. He ended up wearing something totally different, gun belt and all. I had our ring leader outfit him. The rest of the pics were taken by someone else. I am in the last one as a saloon girl on the left of the pic.
  24. The Front Porch

Nope, the passengers aren't allowed off the train, just us desperados lol.
  25. The Front Porch

Tomorrow we have a train robbery. One of the girls is coming and Im picking up the teenage girl too. Should be fun. After that we'll play at the farm if it isn't raining and talk about what goals we want to set with the horses this coming year.
