  1. Test Rode A Horse

Pass pass pass. Forget the pretty tail, and the saddle that comes with him, and even that he's he's an easy buy, which is so tempting, I know. Look at the facts, no excuses: he's bucked you off, he's a bolter on the ground, he's buddy sour and stubborn. That does not sound like a recipe for fun times to me. He sounds half trained with an attitude problem and no respect, add that up with with buddy sour and that can escalate to a dangerous situation very quickly. I would only enter in to this situation if I worked diligently with an experienced professional, I don't think reading online will help because this type of thing (buddy sour, respect, submission) is a delicate matter of timing and feel. I would wait, I've done the easy buy, and settled when I know I would have happier with another horse, and I regretted it for the 4 years I owned the horse, and she didn't deserve my unhappiness either.
  2. Some Pictures!

Todd!! <3 You guys look great!
  3. "grown Up" Jobs

Haha, maturity level . . . I work for an insurance company, and one of my co-workers, a ditzy blond in her fifties, constantly talks in high pitched baby talk. Even calls our manager (ten years younger than her) "mom-eeeeee" in baby talk when she wants something. I think she thinks it's cutesy and sweet. I want to stab my pencil in my eye when she does it. So, no, they don't grow up! And I love the whispering constantly, and then the moment you walk by, they shut up and glare at you. And when someone goes to every cubicle in the department and invites that person to lunch. Except for you. It's pettier than high school, honestly. It's why The Office was a hit! You cant make that bleep up!

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2295545/Fears-missing-woman-daughter-4-calls-boyfriend-say-OK-sounds-like-reading-script--days-sent-text-help-me.html Now international. Hoping for a safe return!
  7. Share A Photo Of Yourself

I'm a music and book fan- at a book signing with my favorite musician. an athlete, and taker up of random sports, and wanna be Olympian My favorite pic of my in the last year. I like green dresses with my skin tone, and look more exotic than my ancestry would suggest. People would ask if I were part Indian, Mexican, or Asian when I was a kid.
  8. My Hubby's "hobby" *new Added*

  10. New Year's Weight Loss Support Group?

That's awful about the teasing Tracy. I'd be mad too. If they were also trying to lose weight, they probably felt guilty about not being able to resist, and peeved that you are stronger. I've read a "cheat day" can really wreak havoc with a diet, but a "cheat meal" is a better option. Maybe have a healthy breakfast and lunch knowing you can splurge later?
  11. Teenager/homework Issues

I don't have kids (just babysat a lot), so bear with me- my advice could be terrible. If you are serious about getting his grades up, then it's time to treat this seriously. No "he's very smart, just lazy." He's lying to you regularly. Lying, and then blaming someone else (the teacher). If he were being smart about it, he'd get Bs and go be lazy so he can get away with it. You know he's lying. He knows you know he's lying. Teacher knows he's lying. Someone needs to step up here! Have the teacher send you his homework online. No chance to lie, to forget it, etc. It's there in writing, and if something is left out on either end, teacher or family, it's there to see. Someone sits down at the kitchen table, and helps him through it. Like a 1st grader. He can't be trusted to do it on his own, that's how he gets treated. I would have thrown an absolute fit, and he might too, but this is his future here. Failing high school, having no work ethic, no pride in work down, lying and blaming others . . . I would take that seriously. And as the grades go up, the work gets done on time, he can have more freedom.
  12. Medals?

I'm not sure if this is what you are referring to, but the USDF awards achievement medals based on levels competed and score, and a smaller replica can be worn on your jacket, though I don't see it very often.
  13. That's my Alma mater ;)
  14. New Year's Weight Loss Support Group?

I'm not a morning person, the only time I can get my self out of bed before I have to get up at 7 is if I ride in the morning in the summer. Can't seem to get on any regularity to work out though. So I regularly end up working out after work, after I ride, so usually 8 pm or later. Work out for an hour, come home, shower, book, bed, and I'm asleep when my head hits the pillow at 11 or 12. Granola for breakfast, 2 thin crust pizza slices and a salad for lunch, a mini egg white and sugarfree cupcake . . . and then dinner was my first Dr. Oz shake. The good thing? I am no longer hungry at all. That's because it's not very tasty, but at least super healthy. Hopefully the morning ones taste better. Exercise . . . minimal. Hour and a half teaching a friend how to fence, so some lunges and work, but nothing like usual. It's ok though, I needed a break after I pushed myself with running 4 miles yesterday. Tomorrow I have to ride, and I'll try and fit something in during lunch, some kettlebell probably. That's a quick calorie killer.
  15. Book Suggestion For A Lazy Sunday?

Love Scorpio Races!! And .... It has been optioned into a movie!! Even has a screenwriter signed! I think 2015.
  16. New Year's Weight Loss Support Group?

I love these threads! So motivational. I'm very active, eat pretty clean, would like to lose 10 vanity pounds. Im aiming for an Olympic training camp in April, would like to be super fit and improve my swimming by then, and catch the eye of selectors. I ran 4 miles yesterday (brutal hills) and will be going fencing tonight. Will also be starting healthy smoothies tonight, for three days, hopefully kickstart some weightloss.
  17. This Place Is Dead

I'll give an update! Still working full time for an insurance company and managing a barn and riding. Thinking of moving south of Wellington in the spring, headquarters of company and family are there. It's been over a year since Riley was so badly injured, and he's now turned out and living a normal retired horse life. Looks a but gimpy at times, but otherwise looks great. Lease horse went home. Got my season at third, was reserve HOY for the state, and got my 4th level scores. Bennie (the ottb) has been the star of the show! He's Usdf's tb horse of the year in 3 categories for the NATION, and was reserve Champion for Region 1 at training level finals, which was a HUGE accomplishment, not to mention he's just a plain bay ottb in his first season at dressage. We are showing second level this weekend. :)
  18. Omg! Omg! So Excited! Update 11/27

Its a beautiful cart! Please seek proper training and equipment, though. In this video, you can see all that can go wrong even with properly trained horses, drivers, and equipment. I shudder to think what could have happened to the two horses had they not had leather straps and the carts eventually coming off. Good luck!
  19. Milestone!

Last night . . . Riley joined the land of "normal" horses again. AKA, he got turned out in the pasture! ALL NIGHT. And wasn't broken this morning. :) To recap . . . last year, progressive ringbone turned into calcified tendon, which one bad step at the walk turned into a torn check ligament and a massive hole in his DDFT. This was October. By December, things had progressively gotten worse, to the point I had a heartwrenching discussion with my vet the week before Christmas about putting him down. We gave him a couple more days for a new shoe to alleviate the tendon. Lucky boy, he almost immediately turned a corner. By late January, we had gone from three legged to slow walks about 10 yards out of the barn and back. In the spring, there was enough improvement that he was walking sound, and could be turned out in a small area a little it at a time. Spent all summer working our hours up, stressful moments of him absolutely LEAPING around, but still coming back ok. Since it's almost been a year, he was fed up with his small pen, and last week my trainer put him out and he went rip roaring around unable to be caught. Since he handled that, we decided it was do or die time (kinda morbid, but literal). He can't live in a stall the rest of his life, no matter how much I adore him. So PLEASE jingle, keep your fingers crossed, whatever, that he can continue to progress and survive turnout, and work toward our eventual goal of pasture sound and out 24/7 so I can afford it!!
  20. Helmets -- Posted Here Cuz I Need All Input

No way would I pay that much for a helmet, when it's not any safer than any other ASTM certified helmet. Those a very popular brand in the show jumping world, where helmets are a bit of a fashion. http://www.doversaddlery.com/tipperary-sportage-8500-riding-helmet/p/X1-36064/?ids=k2i2qyvghevk5b45taopz0ea These are very very lighweight, comfortable, and cool, just as safe from an excellent company that specializes in three day eventing gear. It's just kind of ugly compared to the show helmets, but great for schooling and trails!
  21. Will There Ever Be Another Triple Crown Winner?

Bodemeister did set a rabbits pace in the derby- one of the fastest ever. Couple more days! I'm worried my Derby pick Dullahan will play spoiler.
  22. New Spots....

Riley is chestnut, with about 200 black and maybe 15 white spots. They move around, he gets more every year with the spring and fall coats. With him stall bound this year, the sun hasn't faded them and he looks like part appy, but he's Hanoverian/ TB.
  23. The "circle Of Trust" Pt. Ii

Astoria is neat, my grandparents and cousins lived there when I was young, and I spent part of every summer there growing up. Really a gorgeous place- the family has moved to Enumclaw now, but I want to go back out to the seaside one of the times we head back.
  24. Anyone Have Crohn's Disease?

My sis has it. I'm pretty sure you will not enjoy life unless you find treatment. Malnourishment, skin lesions, hair loss, arthritic pain so bad you can't walk, those are things my sister dealth with last year, besides the normal stomach issues. Shes very healthy now, but it took a year of trying drugs and chemo to find one that worked.
  25. This Place Is Dead

Oh NO Jesha, I'm so sorry. My mare shattered her splint bone into six pieces, hind leg, had to have the surgery. She was back in work in about a month, but it wasn't near the suspensory. Riley Report first. He's walking sound now, but he's been in the stall since October, and we've started to have a lot of problems with abcesses in the other feet, so we decided the tendon was healed enough to start trying to strengthen by small bouts of turnout. Also took off his orthopedic shoe, so he can be turned out. The fetlock still sinks lower and looks weak, but he's not in any pain, so I hope it just needs to get stronger. Bennie and my lease horse, Euro, have been taking up the slack. Bennie even won a MASSIVE Training level class at a huge three day show last weekend, and won High Score for Non Warmbloods 1st to 4th levels! So I'm aiming him to place top 3 training level at Championships and top 6 for first level, which will be a huge accomplishment for the dorky OTTB. Euro got our 3rd level qualifier scores easily, so we are making my debut at 4th level next month! I was always worried that all of my success was all because of Riley, because he was soooo amazing, but now I'm starting to believe I can do it without him. I'm starting to look for the next horse, as Euro goes back in 5 months, and I will need to sell Bennie. I've been keeping him around because I needed a back up. I can't decide if I want a really talented young horse to bring up, something green broke, or something less talented but going FEI. All I know is that I don't just want to do it to do it, I want to win. And I want something that will be my best friend, like Riley. Everything I look at is chestnut with white. :) I think I just want a Riley clone. Non horse wise, I work like a dog, I have to fly down to Florida for a week of training. I'm also trying to be a pentathlete, so I've picked up fencing. Now I have massive bruises from being hit by a danged sword every week. I think Im crazy. And I need more sleep.
