  1. Anyone ride a really old horse for trail?

Jake was 27 yrs old on his last ride now retired. He would still go in a heart beat but arthritis means he's the protector of the pasture (lol).
  2. Riding Alone

I too like it both ways, gives me a choice, 2 of our horses are learning that leaving the others behind is OK. Odd how when with others it's friends and there horses, when i ride alone it's me and my friend. As long as I'm with the horses. it's a great past time.

Good luck Aus star hope you like this site it has some intresting stuff on it for sure. some of us are finding a few are, well lets say tight in there groups. But welcome from canada there is quite a few of us how ride up here too.
  5. Origin of your board name?

okay my main horses name is mac,i started riding him when he was 4 yrs.,And his color is /???? you got it. Have a great ride.
  6. Safe trail tack recommendations needed

In the hills a breast collar and back cinch help keep every thing in place. when i didn't use them times would get tence as the saddle tried to climb up there whithers or end up having more horse in front of the saddle than behind, and this is going on while your still on a narrow trail on the hill. that is where you want a horse with a good mind and stay cool. One horse got semi retired because that is when he would lose his head and no one needs that.
  7. both types of bear and on down the list but thank god no snakes up here, they just sound nasty. We probable have the same number of spooks though, horse eating rocks, stumps and just plain dark things are everywhere LOL. As for the rest of them they don't want much to do with us either. But it is really nice to see them at a safe distance. may we all ride safely
  8. Fav Camp Meal

coffee in the morning, doesn't matter what kind. long as its on a open fire. after the ride a good rib eye steak, sliced potatoes, onions and green pepper rapted in foil and in the hot cools. food does not taste this good at home, see know I'm hungry lol.
  9. Ryan Gingerich and his Connective Horsemanship -- your thoughts?

Never heard of him. Is he local, national or north American? personally i find this industry has it's share of scam artists as well. good luck.

  11. How long a ride?

Sounds like your rides are on the short side so the will probably be fine. Also let your horse tell you if he wants two short rides per day if it's fun for you it's probably fun for them too. Now than if it's high energy, fast paced competitive type yes they need conditioning, but then you said you were going for fun. A shorter trail ride seems to be enjoyed more by my horse than myself at times LOL. have a safe ride!
  12. pictures?

thank you, excellent pictures and its hard to get horses overload LOL
  13. pictures?

I to am interested, for i am not even sure if it's a style, event or some other sort discipline looking forward to some clarification thank you
  14. Riding alone can be dangerous

I agree with you Joan, now i am a man but even i would sooner be alone on my horse in the evening than alone on a city street,my horse doesn't have a criminal thought in his head and he does not smoke crack. LOL I have ridden or worked with the horses all afternoon at times in sight of people and yet when we go in for lunch they act surprised when i say i was riding the horses. Actually this spring i am working with the horses to be able to ride alone, Sam is going to take the most, i can hardly leave the yard or other horses with out a hissy fit LOL, mac and Reba are fine with it,when we're alone they concentrate on me much better. Also have you ever noticed how uncomfortably nervous some people are in certain situations they should not be on a horse or around other horses, they will get hurt because they already know they are going to. Just my thoughts.
  15. How many of you seen his three day, ers, and what did you come away with after the show?
