  1. Need barn suggestions for the KC area

We moved to Lawrence, about 25 minutes west of Overland Park, about 9 months ago. I am not aware of any barns in OP, but there is a couple of Hunter/Jumper barns in Lawrence, I think Tonganoxie has some, and there is a few in Olathe. Also check Basehor, maybe Bonner Springs. Are you looking to buy a house? Horse property is very well priced out here. We have 7 1/2 acres, 2 outbuildings, a 3200 sq. ft. house that was built in 2001 that we purchases for less than 300K. I have seen a lot of horse property homes starting in the mid to upper 100k.
  2. I am more comfortable being alone. I live in a very rural area, Lawrence is 15 minutes away, but where we are at it is very Rural. I love it! My husband got transfered here 9 months ago and I went from working full time and living in the burbs to not working living on 7 1/2 acres in the country. I love it, I feel so at ease..... more comfortable with who I am. It's okay to be alone. Love my husband and boys, but I also love my time alone. I grew up with four older brothers, no sisters. My dad nicknamed me "boy". He taught me so much, he is a Machinist and spent a lot of time as a prison gaurd. So I had to be tuff! I feel the same way you do Bumper, I can't tolerate helpless women. I take care of everything here: putting up fences, horses, kids, tilling, yard, gardening, keeping the 4 wheelers running, pulling trailers, loading/unloading boat, backing boat trailer, I knoe how to change the oil in all our vehicles, use saws.... etc. 2 days ago I had to go pick up a new deck belt for my ride on mower and the good 'ol boy working behind the counter didn't have time to deal with "A stupid Broad" and I was quickly dissmissed. I had my youngest son with me at the time so I couldn't tell the man exactly how I felt about him. Hubby runs a large nationwide company here so I felt he would get further with his "words" than I would with mine! From a young age I was always a bit of a loner, or only had a few close friends. I learned early in life that it is hard to trust people! Forgot to add that I do scream, leap up in the air and run when I see a snake. I'm such a wuss when it comes to that [ 06-09-2008, 08:33 PM: Message edited by: Big TB Little Paint ]
  3. Andi, your Kids are soooooooo cute. I love how sweet their faces look!
  4. Cheveygurlz you have a PM.
  5. Thanks Chevygurlz, why would your ArabX kill them? I have a paint that goes after dogs, and I would hate if he went after the goats. We have a chicken coop and 20ft x 30 ft run that is made out of dog runs (6 foot tall chain link panels) We don't use the run right now would that work to put the goats in at night?
  6. Thanks Cowgirlartist, it is very hot and humid here in the summer. I checked out the website, they will go on my list of possible breed of goat!
  7. Wow. Poor things, their hooves make me cringe. I agree the yearling (1 1/2) looks really bad. Thanks for the good work you guys are doing and keeping us informed!
  8. I was wondering about horns/no horns. Bumper gave me some great advice also. I will pm you HappyAppy1 with questions, I really appreciate your help with this!
  9. Great info HappyAppy1, I will pick up the book and check out the website!
  10. Thanks for all the great info. The coyotes around us seem to have plenty of wild animals to eat. I have the same question about keeping one goat or do I need at least two? Thanks for the advice Happy Appy, I plan on learning as much as possible about goats before I get one.
  11. Tieing horse out to graze??

I would look into an electric fence. One zap and they won't go near it again. Better safe than sorry....... rope + un-attended horses = accident.
  12. The coyotes haven't messed with any of the dogs/ barn cats/horses in the area, I wonder if the goats will stick close to the horses and out of danger from the coyotes? Or will the goats wonder off/attract coyotes to them? The coyotes have gone after chicken and rabbits that I am aware of.
  13. Cals, you have a PM.
