  3. Trimming From The Top Question

i spent 4 months in horsesheoing school and we were tought to always start from the bottom. the dress down form the top is the last thing you want to do. if you start form the top you can go down to far if you do the top last you know how far you can go. like it was said earlier by someone im not a big fan of the finished result. i do agree how ever with they use their rasp more and nippers and knife less i like to do this as much as possible on a bare foot hores.
  4. stop?

do you think that a horse should go strait form a run or a canter to a stop? that being asked i have a 5 year old that i am trying to finish. this weekend i was on him and some one else on my good hores and we decided to run. i have done walk, tort, and canter work of him with no trouble at all, but when we started to run we left my other horse in the dust and i could not get him to stop of even slow down. i ended up haveing to do the emergency one rein stop. my ? is how can i get him to come back down off a run? we dont do it often but when we do i wnat to konw he is safe. what do you think is the best way to teach a stop at speeds? he has a very sensitive mouth and at all other speeds the slightest pressure will stop him. any help would be great

  6. Questions about the The Knife.

i agree with him.... when im trimming a hard dry hoof has a hard sole and is very hard to trime. a sharp knife is very important. i would say it is just b/c it is so dry thats the way my horses have been all summer
  7. *Farriers* on the "thankless/dirty jobs" list...

I went to horseshoeing school to become a farrier and let me tell ya the oder is the last thing on ones mind.....lol....i dont have a good business going yet b/c im going to collage but i hope to get one going this summer.... most people ive delt with were nice and thankfull. the worst thing is when you are being told you are wrong about a decion and you know full well you are right.... just me 2 cents

  10. Head trouble

hi i was just looking for some suggestions about some head problems. First my horse has a big problem when his ears are touched. When i slide a bridel or halter over them he tosses his head up. my second problem is when we are riding when it comes to a stop or a turn his head comes up higher than i would like. I dont want to have to ride in a tie down or draw reins all the time so how can i teach him to when there is pressure take his head down instead of up. the next thing is i would like for him to bend at the poal better. my other horse does this and i would like to get him to do it also. i konw there are a lot of issues in this post but any help would be great. thank you all

  12. odd question

Hi I?m new here and just wanted to say hi first. Now I have a funny question. I have a six year old stud that was cut about 2 ? months ago. He is a really good ride with great manners. But I have a whining problem. He does it constantly. We will be on a trail in the middle of now where with his buddy right beside him and he will whinny several times. Also I went on a three day camping trip and he whinnied so much that by third day he was horse ( no pun intended) It seems to annoying the other people I ride with and when he does it he doesn?t pay attention very well. Just wondering why he does this and is there anything I can do? Or does it come form just being a stud so long, and will it stop with time? Just wondering thanks for the input.
