  1. Pregger mare off of feed

well the feed is brand new, just got a new bag on monday. but this started before then. ty for the advice.. i will try that. i just like her to be a little independant because she sometimes gets herdbound. i remember when my trainer would bring her into the barn some times when she was pregnant before, at about 6 or 7 mos because she would randomly go off her feed. but i never could find out why. >.< hmm. guess i will see tomorrow if she does better

  5. Pregger mare off of feed

Hi guys, I just had a quick question about my mare Fancy. She is currently 128 days pregnant and lately when I dump her feed she takes a bite and walks off to just stand around, or nibble at hay. I know it's early yet for her to be getting uncomofortable but could this change be because of her pregnancy? Ive been taking her temperature and listening to gut sounds every day etc, all normal. I kinda do remember she was really in tune I guess you could say with her last pregnancy her attitude changed completely and this one is no different(this will be her second & last baby, first one was four years ago) but yeah... She's used to being in the heat of florida and never goes off her feed. shes not sick, but do you think it could have to do with the pregnancy? or maybe even the fourth of july? in the paddock shes in the feeder is kind of away from the other horses, and everytime she goes over to her feed she takes a bite and goes back over to the others. maybe she is afraid the loud noises will start again? she is not a skittish horse by any means. eventually she does go back and finish her feed because its gone by morning.. but im just curious to hear opinions. any feedback is greatly appreciated. eta: she is a very healthy girl.. 11 years old. ive had her since she was 3, she has never colicked once or been sick a day in her life. this is a horse that usually dives at food, very good appetite [ 07-08-2008, 01:53 AM: Message edited by: caniborrowapen ]

  11. Hello! I've been reading your post and I'm in love with your mare! *has a soft spot for sorrels* She's adorable, looks much better now that all that hair is off! You did a good job and she looks great. My guess is a bay minimal overo filly with one blue eye, and a bald face.
  12. Feeding a Pregnant Mare

ugh crap. well thats news to me! i thought fescue hay only caused problems in the last 3 mos. we've had 3 ultrasounds done her 14, 28, 47 and then we're doing a 67 to see if we can tell th gender. she's currently at day 51. we're in FLA and shes' on green grass. it's very managed grass though, so i dont think THAT has fescue in it. but what about her hay? shes on t&a, but it comes from Ontario. i've posted pics before and people have said they cant see any. the ultrasounds look very healthy. do you think we're ok?

  14. All you nutrition "experts"..(hay quality? what is this? pictures..)

Oh my gosh, so sorry I forgot to add that we're breeding my mare early february.. I know it can have negative effects on fertility.. and in the last trimester of pregnancy with the placenta, etc. But yeah, I know it doesn't really affect horses not used for breeding. Sorry I couldn't get any pictures, my mom took my camera with her and left it in the car.. But forgot that she had done so.. So we didn't know where it was, LOL. But I pretty much got the answers I was expecting.. Except about the quality which I know is my own fault, lmao. I'm not used to it being 30 here during the day.. So I was in a hurry. Thanks guys!!
