  1. Confederate Flag?

    I'll just ditto this.
  2. To Ride Or Not To Ride...that's The Question.

Buy a short term policy. Horses aren't the only way to run up big medical bills.
  3. Someone In Heaven Is Having A Wonderful Ride

Hugs to you, and Godspeed, Einstein.
  4. Some Bareback Fun

    Fun! I love bareback.
  5. New Year's Resolutions?

Cutting out soda is easy. I switched to seltzer water three years ago, no problems. Of course, it's the bubbles I like, not the sweetness. I want to ride more.
  6. A Good Horse, Gone Bad.

I disagree. Obviously, there are some situations where a horse just can't avoid everyone, but in most pasture settings there are choices as to "escape route", and in my world, that route will not go near me. My horses understand that much - and I don't think they fear me, not a bit, but they are all extremely careful of my space. I will admit that I purposefully own non-reactive horses who are careful by nature, so that does help. I don't have any aggressive horses, but I have fostered and boarded a couple. That aggressive horse, I would go after with whatever was handy. The ones I couldn't fix didn't stay. Most learn pretty quickly that life is great if they keep me happy, but they had better not make me mad.
  7. A Good Horse, Gone Bad.

A horse in flight mode won't run over one higher in status. That's where the disrespect comes in. My horses have done some amazing gymnastics to stay off of me in similar situations (aggression by another horse or something). That's what you want.
  8. Head Trauma And Athletes

We wear helmets - horseback riding, atvs, baseball, bike, and skateboarding. My oldest played football from age 6-high school graduation in 2008. My youngest (nephew, who lives with me) wants to play football desperately, but he's already had several head injuries, and I just won't risk more. He is angry, but there's just too much information now about potential risk, and he already has some deficiencies. I really don't know what we'd do if we were making the choice for oldest now. He came though fine, but that was just good luck.
  9. Pictures Of Us

Great photos. What camera do you use?
  10. Trailer For Horse: Aluminum Or Steel?

Mine is aluminum over steel. That works well if the dissimilar metals are appropriately protected from each other. Mine is a Merhow, '99, with no issues. Some of the Sundowners have had huge issues. Steel trailers rust. Some brands do better than others. My Circle M steel trailer looked awful in 3-4 years. It was outside all the time. Every aluminum floored horse area I inspected had corrosion, with holes, under the mats. Those things require careful cleaning and maintenance, so if you are shopping used, pulls those mats and check. (Every seller I questioned swore up and down their floors were in perfect shape.) I like a wood floor - easy on the horses, and much easier/cheaper to replace.
  11. Delay Leading Gcc

I do think this board is dying a slow death, because it is no longer user friendly or quick to use. I know I get frustrated and go elsewhere.
  12. Hey, Guess What?

    Happy Anniversary!
  13. What Did You Do With Your Horse Today?

Rocky and I had a great ride today. It's cold, and I considered backing out, but I am so glad I didn't. I just kept reminding myself that I NEVER regret riding. Rocky and I went riding up at Norris today. I got the dressing warm mix just right, because it was 42, and I was comfy. We rode with a new friend, who lives sort of near me and is a former endurance rider, so we got more trotting and cantering than we have lately. I had a blast. The leaves were gorgeous, but it's a dreary day, so the photos don't show it all that well. My riding buddy had three dogs with her (riding, she left a 4th in the trailer), and these ladies had at least five more. %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i334/jula4me/rockydogpack_zpsf5272903.jpg %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i334/jula4me/rockydam_zpsa94448dd.jpg %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i334/jula4me/rockyleaves_zps63a1cbe8.jpg
  14. What Did You Do With Your Horse Today?

I'm glad that everyone is starting to adjust, although I know it is slow, and will be hard, and it's just going to take a long time. He was a wonderful horse.
  15. What Did You Do With Your Horse Today?

Gorgeous photos and description. I wish I had some dirt roads.
