  1. The Benefits Of Lunging Your Horse

The Benefits of Lunging Your Horse by Charles Wilhelm Question: Why is it important that I lunge my horse? I would also like to understand the essentials of this exercise. Answer: This is a question that I have been asked many times but it remains a good question. This time, I?d like to answer it from a different perspective. I just saw something on Facebook about someone who never lunges but just gets on and rides and has done this since the horse was a colt. This may be fine for this person and this particular horse, but for most people, lunging is a very important tool for working with a horse ... 2. Is There A Phone App For Horse City?

I haven't tried with my personal iPhone but I will tonight when I get home and have wifi (there's no wireless here at the office). I have no other way to test it or any answers. Sorry!
  3. Is There A Phone App For Horse City?

The forums are currently on third party software called IP.Board version 3.1.4 I do not know when/if we will upgrade. It's my understanding that the newest iPhone app requires Requires IP.Board 3.3.2+ - I think it's $1.99 This is a link but it's doubtful it will be usable based on that requirement: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/ips-communities/id521920635?ls=1&mt=8 As QH_LV_R says, there may be a free one that works okay with our version of the software. As far as posting pics goes, unless you can put in the code to manually embed an image url I don't think you can post a pic. It's not exactly seamless on a computer so it surely won't be on a phone. It's too bad it's not.

I moved this topic to Horse Health in hopes that it might get the advice you are seeking.
  5. I Have To Ask For Help On This

Maybe work with him on the ground with exercises that show him how sensitive a horse is to our emotions, actions and touch? He might better understand how riding effects them even moreso after a few lessons with that? A simple thing like moving the shoulders from the ground, or haunches or making the horse back up (in a safe place of course) can all help him understand how effective a human can be with a horse. It's not all about galloping off into the sunset ... WE know that but he needs to learn now. He's made a commitment to learn but he has to keep an open mind too. He's directly effecting an animal with a great deal of sensitivity. Could you do various saddle stretching exercises too? Riding with one arm behind his back. Stretching to one side with the opposite hand to touch his toes. And so on ... It might seem "so simple" but actually can be hard for some adults that don't use those muscles often. If he's a visual learner is there someone that could ride another horse at the same time and show him how the exercises are done and have you on the ground explaining? It might work? good luck!
  6. Cruelty Exposed, Walking Horses, Big Lick

^^ great article, thanks for posting that. It's interesting that so many organizations are now involved. This quote really said it for my thoughts: "A lot of the owners can't be that dumb to know there's not something wrong when [a horse] walks like that. A horse will not walk on his hind legs unless he's sore. That's just common sense."

  9. Need To Replace My Dansko Paddock Boots :(

I had 3 pair of Danskos because I heard they were stopping production ... sadly they all wore out. But my replacement that I've been happy with is Blundstone. I only wear the "pull on" kind (hate lace up because of my wide foot with high instep). I had to go a size bigger than the Dansko but I'm in love with them! I have 3 pair of Fat Baby's but would rather not ride in them just like you. Good luck!

  12. Nikki - H C Contest Problem

It's an Internet Explorer issue ... you'll need to update IE or try Firefox or Chrome. There are so many browser versions in the world now we can't meet every need. Sorry!
  13. Why Do You Suppose...

You are welcome to try it if you like psmitty! You know where to find it.
  14. Why Do You Suppose...

I have a Devoucoux Chiberta monoflap. I find it to be the most correctly balanced and comfortable saddle I've ever owned. I do flatwork in it as well as all my jumping work. This is what it looks like (pic is from Eventing Nation) And this is it with me and my horse - you can see the short girth there. In this case I was using a synthetic "stretchy" one. I have a leather short girth for it and I also have two short brown fuzzy ones (for summer).
  15. Why Do You Suppose...

What?!!?! You mean I'm not "cool" in my monoflap? I could are less what is popular. It fits me and fits the horse. I LOVE mine!
  16. Picking Up The Correct Lead...

This is a great article: Canter on the Correct Lead Every Time! >> http://horsecity.com/articles/training-riding/12152-canter-on-the-correct-lead-every-time I always have to remind myself to be really obvious with my legs in my asking, mostly because I am sooooo short! Good luck! I hope that helps.
  17. Apple Iphone

I was die-hard anti-smart phone because I'm always on a computer and felt like it would be a waste of money ... then my horse and I fell into water and my cheapo free phone went swimming. I dragged my feet and bought an iPhone 4 (refurbished) anyway and I'm VERY happy I did! I got the Otterbox and insurance in case we have another desire to go swimming. I'm a big fan of refurbished stuff and I've never had any issues - computers, TVs, phones, etc. Now I'm completely addicted to Instagram.

  23. National Joke Day

One day a man passed by a farm and saw a beautiful horse. Hoping to buy the animal, he said to the farmer: "I think your horse looks pretty good, so I'll give you $500 for him." "He doesn't look so good, and he's not for sale," the farmer said. The man insisted, "I think he looks just fine and I'll up the price to $1,000." "He doesn't look so good," the farmer said, "but if you want him that much, he's yours." The next day the man came back raging mad. He went up to the farmer and screamed, "You sold me a blind horse. You cheated me!" The farmer calmly replied, "I told you he didn't look so good, didn't I?"
  24. Hc Or My Computer?

Firefox is currently on 14.xx for Mac. I have no idea what it is for a PC. You'll have to go to their site to check for updates. Don't ever download weird files unless you know what you are clicking on. There is no reason to download a file called index.php from ANY site. Something is clearly an issue with your current browser. If it's fishy then quitting your browser and re-opening the site is probably best.
  25. Hc Or My Computer?

I have a really old version of Firefox (3.6.9) on one computer that has this issue. It's not upgradable so it constantly has Java and Flash issues. My other computer (upgraded and up to date) does not have the issue at all in Firefox.
