  1. She Didn't Tell Me!

I've told the owner before that when she throws shoes she cannot be in the pasture because she will destroy her hooves, I pulled her in FROM the pasture without a shoe to here her say that she had left her in the pasture 2 days without a shoe! Yes that's a big deal, she could have gone lame. Plus the farrier that's coming out isn't even my farrier! It's just the farrier that's coming out soonest, my farrier lives far away and only comes out when several horses need done, which the owner knows ahead of time and usually tells me. My son is only 5 months and I can take him with in case of emergency, I've had my horse coming on 4 years and I know she has soft feet.
  2. She Didn't Tell Me!

I posted this in health but not sure if it belongs here instead. So I went to go see my horse (she's at a boarding) and I see she lost her front shoe and has already started chipping it, I text the owner of the boarding and she says that she lost it Saturday and that the farrier is coming wednesday! She never text me telling me this had happened or that the farrier was coming Wednesday! It's no little thing when my horse looses a shoe because she has lost a shoe and taken a lemon sized chunk out of her hoof all within 3 hours before, in a rock free pasture. Plus I have a 5 month old son and have to drive a 40 mile round trip to my mom so she can watch him when the farrier comes and she owns a restaurant so she can rarely watch him. So I really need heads ups when the the farrier is coming, I'm just super PO'D that I wasn't informed. I never would have expected something like this out of her though, she like family. She came to my baby shower and she let me have my wedding there at the barn, am I overreacting on this?

  4. Is This The Right Or Wrong Decision....

I agree with wild rose, shes at a boarding now and shes only in for a few hours on week days, but they keep her in on weekends. Shes sooo attached to her pasture buddy that id feel terrible seperating the two. Her boarding is 300 a month and thats fine now that im working, but im really pushing to move to where id have room to bring her home with me. What would make selling her hardest on me is 1 i cant stand to think that some else would be calling her theirs, 2 ive had to move her to 4 different locations since ive had her and everytime it takes her at least 3 months to finally become tame there, i dont want someone thinking i sold them a bad horse just because shes scared of the new enviroment. 3 she goes backward in training real easy, ive noticed when my sister rides her that if she doesnt enforce her to do something my mare does what ever she wants. Not like rearing or bucking but she wont follow the sides of the areana or drop her head. So but at the same time im worried it might be 6 months before i get a chance to ride her again.
  5. So ive had my mare for 3 years, 3 off and on horrible years... I rode my neighbors horses for years till i decided to buy my own, my first. Im not gunna lie, i had no idea what i was doing. And i bought what seemed to be a calm beginners horse and brought home someone elses problem. I refused to give up on her, i had people teach me how to reteach her and we basicly learned together. Now i can jump on someone elses horse and teach them something, i feel like i learned soo much about training and pain in the *** horses from my mare. My mother has been trying to get me to sell her the ENTIRE time, which i cant blame her, id be saying the same if i saw my daughter with a horse that dislocated her shoulders and bit her skin off (lol it was bad...) but i never gave up and now shes a horse that can jump, barrel race and do basicly anything you want her to. But now im 6 months pregnant and maybe get around to riding her once every 2 weeks, and ive even stopped riding her because it hurts my stomach muscels. My question is, would i be making the right or wrong decision to sell her? Im tearing up just thinking about it, since i rode her down the isle 4 months pregnant and have such an attachment to her. But i feel like its not fair to her that all she does is sit in a stall and shes 17, shes not getting any younger. I keep saying i'll be able to spend more time with her after i have my son, but i know that i'll have even less time for her with a newborn. Sorry for the loooonnnnggg story, but nobody i talk to about it seems to understand because they never had horses.
  6. Strange Bump?

My horse got this bump on her butt about a month ago, she wasnt in pain with it so me and the owner of my horse boarding whos seen just about everything, thought it must have been a bug bite. Well its still there so im starting to get really worried, it hasnt gotten bigger but i still dont think its normal.
  7. Im getting married in a riding arena, next month and im riding my horse down the aise. I only have a roping saddle and dont know if im going to fit on it with the saddle horn. I cant afford to buy a side saddle, anyone have any ideas?
  8. Strange Hairloss?

its about as big as a soccerball and she was given wormer just last month
  9. Strange Hairloss?

My mares hair on her right back upper leg, like thigh area, has almost completely come off in a circle. Im not sure if it has to do with her rolling in her stall and collecting mud there, but anyone else have an idea of what this might be? No where else is she losing her hair so dramaticly.
  10. I'm Beginning To Be Afraid Of My Horse!

there isn't saddle on her when I have these problems and im just leading her. She isn't tense and then suddenly she'll rear up and try to take off bucking. There isn't anything going on at the time either. I've worked all the spooking to noises and spooky objects out of her before, so I know when somethings scaring her. I was talking to someone with no noises or spooky movements going on, I tried to walk her up out of a slight ditch we were standing in and she almost pulled me off my feet running! I just had her out ridding in the woods without any problems 2 weeks ago.
  11. Ive had my mare for coming up on 2 years. I had her at a farm in the country until December, when her and I moved to a house in the woods. I had her trained to jump and run barrels, also I spent ALOT of time desensitizing her towards bags, tarps, water ect. But for the past 3 times ive taken her out to just simply walk her; she rears, bolts and bucks for no apparent reason. Its become bad enough that she reared, turned and almost bucked me 6 times today!! I cant even walk her down a hill without her freaking out. I don't know what to do, shes never been like this before. I'm scared she's gunna buck me or seriously injure me. I'm gunna try to get her into a boarding where there's no outside stress towards her, but im not gunna be able to do that for at least a month. So anyone have any idea of how to work with her??
  12. My horse jumped the fence and was running around a while, before we caught her. But I realized after she got in her one back leg was swollen, she's not limping or anything. She was standing and running on it without a problem, the swellings between her ankle and her middle joint (can't think of the names of her joints). I wrapped it, but never dealt with anything like this before. Anyone know how to help with the swelling?
  13. Transferring From Western To English

    I'm almost 5'4 and I weigh 135 pounds, I fit a 14 1/2 western. but I like a western saddle to be a bit bigger so I have room.
  14. I started jumping my QH and I've always been a western rider, so since I cant jump my horse with a roping saddle. I need to buy an English saddle... My roping saddle is full QH barred and has a 6 3/4 gullet, which fits my 1000 pound QH. But what size would she be for an English saddle??? Also my 16 inch seat fits me comfortably, is the seat size the same with English as it is Western??
  15. My Horse Is Scared To Death Of My Neighbor..

My horse generaly doesnt mind cars at all unless their 18 wheelers or loud engined trucks, so i dont think its her being afraid of cars. Normaly when riding if she gets spooked ill make her stop until i have her attention back and then go on. Things like farm equipment or wild animals normaly spook her, but for a second then she'll continue. She LOVES people, Anytime im riding her and we see someone shes got to go up and sniff them. Ive been friends with my neighbor since i was 9, i know he didnt hurt her but he may have scared her. He does target practice in his yard with his gun, so she maybe associating the loud gun shots with my neighbor. I've never had my horse walk towards me and nearly plow me over to get behind me before though, i mean she was trying to hide behind me because she saw him walking through the yard.
