  1. Took a couple of trips to the Eastern Sierra this month. Fall colors are fabulous right now. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157648731483642/ http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157648100082517/
  2. We were able to horse camp and trail ride for a week in Wawona, a week in Bridalveil and two weeks in Tuolumne this year. Definitely a beautiful place and worth the drive to visit. We will definitely go back next year. Wawona http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157644326033169/ Bridalveil http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157647264003115/ Tuolumne http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157646847629480/
  3. We arrived after the El Portal Fire, we were there when the Junction fire broke out and left before the Bridge fire started. Too many fires!
  4. Spent several days riding near Las Vegas. Here's some pics from Valley of Fire. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157640499458454/
  5. I would love to sit down for a gab fest sometime. I think we may have some mutual acquaintances. We routinely ride Red Rock Canyon State Park (California). Nightmare Gulch is indefinitely closed to motorized vehicles (storm damage). Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (Nevada) was a real treat last week.
  6. Sisely, I have never seen anything like Valley of Fire. Hope to return there someday. Here are the pics of Red Rock Canyon http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157640586111495/
  7. Let The Desert Rides Begin!

Summer has passed and high country trail rides are on the back burner for now. This weekend was the first desert trail ride & campout this season. Took my happy appy out to Afton Canyon which is about 40 miles east of Barstow. We spent the weekend exploring various washes & canyons. The rides were "easy" & scenery was beautiful. Despite weather forecasts of rainy weather, we were blessed with partly cloudy conditions, temps in the upper 60s & NO wind. Just another small piece of America the beautiful...I have been going 1-2 times a month for several years without leaving California (except for a couple of trips to arizona). I still have a list of new places I want to see in California. If I ever finish my California bucket list, I would also to try Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming & Montana someday. The GPS track for the last ride of the weekend is at http://www.everytrai...trip_id=1361002 I haven't figured out how to shrink down the photos on this page, so I put a photo album Flickr & (more of the same) slideshow on youtube http://www.flickr.co...57628001441505/
  8. Let The Desert Rides Begin!

First desert ride of this season turned out to be Mojave National Preserve - Hole In The Wall Rained for the first day. After that the weather was perfect. No snow in camp. Found a little farther up the trail. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157638063904876/
  9. A couple of weeks ago we went horse camping in Mt. Home Demonstration Forest near Balch Park. We did a really nice lollipop/loop ride up to Summit Lake. I posted the GPS track along with a youtube slideshow at http://www.everytrail.com/view_trip.php?trip_id=1341636
  10. Went back to this area on Veterans Day weekend. First (and probably only time) we will ride in the snow there. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157637726470384/
  11. Rode a loop through Freeman Creek Grove. Headed out past the George Bush Tree, then up to Lewis Camp and back home via Jerky Meadow. Perfect fall day. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157637108903816/
  12. Sisely, Did you ride Nightmare Gulch? Just curious if it is still passable. I heard they closed it to vehicle traffic because of storm damage. We usually do that ride in January.
  13. Trail Ride From 10/12/13

Gorgeous. Looks like a great day.
  14. Another ride in the Golden Trout Wilderness. This time Summit National Recreation Trail to Maggie Lake. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157636387570425/
  15. Fall In The Eastern Sierras

Anybody know a good spot for horses to do a fall colors extravaganza type ride in the Eastern Sierras (California)? Something that wouldn't involve too many narrow cliff trails or deer hunters.
  16. Fall In The Eastern Sierras

Took a year, but we finally made it! http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157635903633854/
  17. Stayed at Horseshoe Meadow Equestrian camp. This camp is supposed to be the highest end-of-the-road camp in California. Rode up to Cottonwood Lakes & Cirque Lake then back again. Beautiful views & fun ride. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157635498276179/
  18. Trail Ride From September 3, 2013

    Looks like a great ride.
  19. Had a great ride through Jennie Lakes Wilderness earlier this week. Stayed at Horse Camp in Big Meadows. Rode out from camp, past Jennie Lake around JO pass and back home via Weaver Lake. Beautiful ride. Hope we can make it up that way again this year. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157633655062256/
  20. The camping at Big Meadows Horse Camp is definitely much better than Tuolumne. Jennie Lakes wilderness had a lot less traffic than Yosemite when we were there. I don't think bikes are allowed on trails in Yosemite. Definitely not on any wilderness trails. We went back this weekend and visited Buck Rock Fire Lookout. It is about 2 miles from the campground. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157635151159401/
  21. Yosemite - Tuolumne Meadows

Went to Yosemite for the first time this weekend. We stayed at Tuolumne Meadows Horse Camp. Was a short stay, but well worth the drive. Rode to Cathedral Lake. Has anyone else ridden the area? http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157634756621459/
  22. Yosemite - Tuolumne Meadows

They must've changed the rules. We stayed in a camper when we went. There were others with campers and living quarter trailers while we were there.
  23. Went back to this general area. This time we stayed at Lewis Camp trailhead. Rode various Sequoia National Forest and Golden Trout Wilderness trails. http://www.flickr.com/photos/horsepoor4ever/sets/72157634994638123/with/9473961520/
  24. Considering a SPOT Gen3 or Delorme Inreach. Anybody out there have advice or suggestions?
