  1. Just Thought I Would Share The View

Awesome pictures. Alaska is so beautiful. My uncle lived in Fairbanks for over 30 years, before coming home. My husband and I really like the show Alaska the Last Frontier. Too cool that you know the families. We would love to get up there someday.

Hi Oz. Good to see some familiar faces. Do you still have your rescue?
  3. Musings On Poverty In America

It certainly takes more than drive to succeed. But if you don't have drive where does that leave you. It leaves you sitting around bitching about your life, wanting things you don't have, buying things you don't need just because someone else has them and digging the hole deeper and deeper. I had drive. I had the same shitty job my friend had. I kept the job until I found a better one. She quit cause it was shitty. I kept the same clothes and paid my bills. She always had new clothes, she also had awful credit because her bills weren't paid most of the time. Eventually I had a job where I could further my education. She didn't even take advantage of welfare paying for hers. That is what I mean by drive. I am not trying to demean "all" poverty stricken people. I am not trying to demean my friend. I am stating that people need to try to help themselves out of their situations, not expect others to do it for them.

Congrats on 10,000 posts. Wow. I used to be on here constantly, a long time ago. I was never a chatty cathy though. Its hard to believe there were only less than 4,000 members back then. Once I started taking college classes, Horse City took a back burner for sure. Good to see its still here and thriving.

I was not judging anyone. I was stating the facts as they are with people I personally know. They are not buying things to go to a job interview, or to have a phone to get a phone call back about an interview. They are buying things that they want because they simply want them, not because it will help them network for a job. I have watched these particular people dig their hole deeper and deeper by the choices they have made, while I have climbed higher and higher by the choices that I have made. I was not put on this earth to judge them or anyone else. I was just stating facts. Please don't get all holier than thou on me for stating facts.
  6. Musings On Poverty In America

I have friends who are still in the same state of poverty we were all in 20 years ago. The difference between them and me is that I have drive. I was driven to keep any job until I found a better job. Over the years every job I had was better paying than the one before it. Once I was in a good job, I started looking at ways to educate myself to get another job that was better. It took me 5 years of college to get a 2 year degree, but I persevered and did it. I have always paid my bills. I would do without material things to make sure things were paid for. I didn't have to have the best clothes, or car. Not so with my friends in poverty. They don't like a job they quit. They want expensive sneakers they buy them with their tax money instead of paying bills. They feel like they are entitled to have their bills paid by welfare when their electric is turned off. They want everything handed to them and complain real loud if they don't get it. It all comes down to drive. It comes down to wanting a better life and going for it. It takes hard work without a lot of rewards at first. Let me tell you...after all those years the rewards are finally coming my way and it is a terrific feeling.
  7. Dog Epilepsy

Ditto to CVM on the chem panel...My friends pug started having seizures, turns out she is diabetic. Her blood sugar was causing them. The only other symptom she had was drinking a lot of water, but it was summer and very hot.
  8. What Do You Do For Dry Skin?

I drink lots and lots of water. I also am washing my hands constantly so I use cooler water with lots of soap and friction. I use any old lotion, but on my face I use a collegan and elastin moisturizer.
