  1. Hello! I just bought a DK saddle a couple months ago. And then I only rode the horse that Danny fit the saddle to. And now that I have just purchased a new horse, I realised that I have no idea how to fit this saddle to him, let alone trying to determine his weak side to even start the process of fitting it. If anyone is experienced with DK saddles and knows how to fit them and find out the weak side on your horse, that would be a great help! Thanks~

  5. Stubborn Horse

I'm trying to train my horse to nod, but she wont listen! I've tried the pressure points, having her head follow the treats, and waving a crop to he face. She doesn't respond to any of them! Any tips?
  6. So I've wanted a horse for some time, and I've settled on purchasing a mini horse at some point, so that I can have a horse without the need for exponential amounts of land, and stables, and the other special ameneties (<- I hope that is spelled right) that a full size horse would need to survive and be happy, I do not intend to take it to any shows or do any type of competitions. I am simply looking for a companion animal (Because as an aspiring game designer, I won't have the time that is required to be dedicated to my horse if it were a full size breed) The catch howerver, is that I know hardly anything about horses aside from what I read in the off-hand during a random google search regarding the topic sparked by a random spike of interest. I would appreciate someone directing me to the things minis need to be happy healthy animals in a household-type environment, also what sort of medical care they need. I have read that they require as much if not more medical care than a full size horse, and that their metabolism is very very fast which could lead to weight problems (on that note, how would I know if a horse is having a dietary problem?) There is no real rush on this, as I do not intend on buying for quite awhile, I want to have a sufficient amount of education on the topic of equine care before I make any sort of decision. ADDENDUM: please understand that when I say household-type environment, I do NOT mean keeping the poor thing in the house all day. Maybe some sort of netted-in back porch connected to a dog-run type deal in a large yard. Keeping any sort of horse in the house would be dumb.
  7. Montana Residents!

Hey all, I haven't been on here for a looooong time, but it's come a time in my life when I need a lot of support and advice wherever I can get it, and I know the members of these forums span a demographic both far and wide. Just last week, my husband came home from work and told me he's filing for divorce. It came as a complete surprise, and I've been having a really hard time with it. At the same time, I've been interviewing for jobs as I will be graduating in May. In the interest of getting out of this place and starting fresh, I am looking at taking a position in Kalispell, MT. This is 17 hours away from my closest friend or relative, and I would be moving 3 or 4 horses, 5 chickens, 3 dogs, a cat, a hamster, and a betta fish. If anyone is familiar with the area or has any advice at all on making a life change like this, moving cross country with horses, etc, I would surely be indebted to you. I need to know what it's like out there. Is hay easy to come by? Is it very dry most of the time so grass doesn't grow? What are the people like? What type of boarding situations are available? What is the cost of living like? I know Montana is a monstrous state, but I just need an idea of if this is a good idea. I've been wanting to live in the mountains my entire life. Now I'm free to do as I please, and now may be that time. Thank you to all of you!
  8. Cleaning Splint Boots?

Ok so I have recently purchased my first pair of Professionals Choice SMB boots for my mare. Of course I couldnt wait for the mud to go away before I tried them out and now they are nasty . I really want to get them clean before the clinic this weekend, so what is the best way to clean my boots so they are bright red again but not damaged from the wash? Any help is appreciated since I only have tomorrow and thursday to get them clean. Thanks
