  1. I am new here and this seemed the most knowledgable forum to post my question about my new plantation saddle...I have been lurking for a while reading the posts about them and trying to learn as much as I could:) I recently purchased an older style Buena Vista plantation saddle, and can't seem to find enough information online to really help me identify it or fit it to my horse. Does this look like a Bona Allen? From what I have read the Genuine BuenaVista 317 stamp should ID it as a Bona Allen, but what about the J stamped on top? The chain link and flower tooling does not look like any of the Bona Allen patterns I have come across in my extremely limited online research. I paid $185 for it...any ideas on value? The second part of my question relates to fitting one of these saddles...The new plantation saddles (Tuckers, etc) seem to have a much flatter curve to the back skirting/panels, whereas this saddle seems wide in front, but much steeper in the back. I am having a rough time envisioning what the tree looks like and where it actually lies within the stuffing. Does anyone have photos of one of these older Buena Vistas sitting appropriately on a a horse?? I did bring a wither tracing with me when I purchased it and it seemed like an ok fit through the shoulders, but the rear of the saddle is totally throwing me off-- I just cant imagine how it would lie flat and make good contact with any horse! Thanks for your help:)
