What's the difference between a trail saddle and a reining saddle? Added question

Recommended Posts

I guess that's my question. I want to steal my hubby's Crates trail saddle and he's not budging (I wouldn't really steal it [Wink] ), so we saw a nice crates reining saddle on ebay, wondering if there would be much difference.

Thanks!! [smile]

I would think the reining saddle would be more flat in the seat. A trail saddle will have more of a rise, to sit you back in the seat.

Maybe someone else will have a better answer!

A trail saddle will have more horn, a softer seat with a slight rise from cantle to horn... it's considered an all purpose. The reiner will have a very low horn and a bit more deeper seat that's relatively flat from cantel to horn...

I had a crates reining saddle and it was super comfy, I did everything in it... Wish I hadn't sold it!!

Thanks!! So with these answers in mind, would you consider a reining saddle just for trail riding? I mean, is there really that much difference?
