Are Carlyle saddles any good?

Recommended Posts

Yes, I know nothing about quality tack. Hah. I'm thinking real hard on getting my horse Benny an English saddle, but I don't want to spend major bucks on one, because he's going to remain predominantly Western, unless he shows major aptitude at being English. But I also don't want to buy a piece of poo that will fall apart, or throw off my balance, or hurt my horse.

I just found this, and think it sounds like a good deal... IF it's a good saddle? If they make quality tack? I've personally never heard of them.

The picture looks nice enough, but I wouldn't recommend it. Any brand new saddle at that price is going to be bad quality, you get what you pay for. And with it coming with that whole package deal, that also is kindof a warning sign to me. Good quality saddles aren't going to come with all that stuff, for that price. I would reccomend looking around for a used saddle. Look for the name brands that are well used and you cna get something for that price or cheaper. I got a very old courbette saddle for 250 and it is serving me beautifully. Good brands will last forever, so don't be afraid of an old saddle. here's some I came up with (sorry, i didn't know what size you'd need?)

Honestly, I haven't heard anything but negative feedback on the Carlyle saddle, but for that price you might as well try and find a "name brand" used saddle. [smiley Wavey] Try www.mmtackshop.com they allow you to take the saddle out on a trial, they've got Close Contacts, AP's, and dressage saddle on there as well.
