Spence Academy: Class Of 1895

Recommended Posts

June 10, 1895 - We are pleased to inform you that your son or daughter has been granted admittance to the Spence Academy for Young Ladies and Young Men. Upon graduation day, your daughter will be prepared for the responsibilities and duties of womanhood, and/or your son will be ready to rise up in the ranks of society and attain any profession he may desire. We at Spence bid you a fond farewell and hope to see you and your son and/or daughter soon.

spence.jpg

Spence Academy is located in the outskirts of London, away from the distractions of the city. The young ladies reside in the east wing of the castle, while the west wing is for the young men. A large cathedral sits atop a hill behind the castle. A stable to the east of the castle is the home for many of the students' equine companions. The spacious front lawn is a wonderful place for the students to spend their free hours, but they would do well to be wary of the forest that surrounds the castle. They should also refrain from wandering about the castle or they will risk losing their way throughout the maze-like hallways and hundreds of unused rooms.

Welcome to the wonderful world of the Victorian Age, when women are turned into pretty little robots and men can do anything they please. Will you be a girl that merely sips her tea and speaks when she is spoken to, just how she is trained to behave? Or will you only behave that way in class, rebelling against the regime in any way you can outside of school? Will you be a typical male of the age, a womanizer that believes his wife to be an ornament and nothing more? Or will you be a man of courage that sticks up for those women who deserve the rights that men possess?

The choice is yours.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okay. Spence Academy is basically a HUGE castle with hundreds of unexplored rooms, secret passages, and other things of that nature that you would expect to find in a castle. It is also surrounded by a dark forest that the officials warn you stay away from. Don?t ask me what they?re afraid of?make it up yourself. I?m sure we can go along with it. (I think this RPG has the potential to evolve into something really awesome if we get creative). Anyway, balls and other events will be held just to keep things interesting. You can also have a horse or another animal if you want.

We will begin in June, when all of the students move in and stay for the summer before the next school year starts.

Cadence Fae Westcott

Age: 17

Gender: Female

Appearance: Porcelain skin with not one blemish or freckle to speak of is as white as you can imagine and long hair in a dark mahogany color falls down far past her shoulders in twists and spirals. Cadence believes that her 5’6” frame is too tall, but she was blessed with delicate curves and a wasp-thin waist. Her facial features are striking, with a straight nose and fairly high cheekbones. The most stirring physical aspect of this young lady, however, is her shocking dark eyes that stand out on porcelain skin. A violet color surrounds the pupil, blending outward into a dark midnight blue color with a small ring of black around the iris.

Personality: Cadence has been described in many words, but the most common of them is mysterious. She tends to keep to herself, preferring to read a book in lieu of gossiping with other girls, and she does not try to make her presence known. However, once you make a friend of her, she is your friend for life. She will stick up for you no matter what, and will defend you even in the most trying situations. Cadence is very crafty and can talk her way out of nearly any situation, so she is good to have around. A naturally very curious girl, she will try anything once and she doesn’t have many fears.

History: Cadence was born into a very wealthy family and has lived a good life. Her father is the Duke of Somerset and is very well respected among the nobles of England. However, her mother died shortly after giving birth to Cadence and her brother, so they never got to meet her.

Other: Benjamin’s twin sister.

-------------------------------------

Benjamin James Westcott

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Appearance: Naturally, Ben greatly resembles his twin sister. His smooth pale skin reveals no blemishes or freckles, and shaggy dark brown hair falls to just above his eyes. He is very grateful for his 6’1” frame, which just happens to be adorned with lean muscle. Strong facial features and a square jawline complete a very handsome face, and he inherited the same strange violet and blue eyes that his sister has.

Personality: This is the area where Ben and his twin sister are very different. Though he seems quiet and angelic in the eyes of his teachers, he is outgoing and can bring a smile to nearly anyone’s face. Ben is very charismatic and enjoys being the center of attention, but every now and then he enjoys spending time alone with only himself and his thoughts. He enjoys spending time among the company of young ladies, of course, and he is polite and surprisingly very sweet.

History: Same as Cadence’s. (Sorry, I don’t feel like retyping all of that lol.)

Other: Cadence’s twin brother.

Ava Grace Carter

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance: She has a petite and fragile looking figure, and has a plain beauty that is the definition of innocence. Matching her beige skin, she has long, dark brown hair that seems to fall where ever it likes, no matter how many times she combs it. Her dark gray eyes are big and her smile seems like she is hiding something.

Personality: Ava is one of the youngest students at Spence, but her age does not hold her back in any aspect of her life. Her intelligence is what has allowed her to progress so swiftly in the Academy's classes. Ava likes to make people think that she is shy and quiet, but really she is an observer. You never know what her imaginative little mind is thinking of as her eyes pull you in.

History: Ava is the youngest and only girl of her family of seven. Her father, the Earl of Aberdeen, was the Prime Minister of England but retired in 1855. Her mother was known for her beauty, but Ava resembles her father more. Her six brothers are all military men, serving their country as their father had once done. Ava is closest to her older brother Emerson with whom she communicates via letters regularly.

Other: Ava enjoys riding in the woods outside of Spence early in the mornings while she reads her brother's letters.

Allister Jace Patton

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Appearance: The first time you see Allister, you will find yourself staring. You don't know whether to be amazed, attracted, or afraid. His face is beautiful, but stern. He looks as though he could crush a column with his bare hand. He has shaggy black hair with crystal blue eyes that change in the sunlight. Allister's skin could be compared to that of a palomino horse, a creamy peach color lightly kissed by the sun. His height, along with his stern look, is probably what makes him seem so intimidating reaching 6 feet 5 and a half inches tall.

Personality: Allister is known as the "bad boy" around Spence. His teachers know not to waste their time asking him to volunteer because he wont answer. They don't seem to worry since his grades are up to par. Allister doesn't waste time with friends. If he likes someone, he will open up to them. It is quite the task to make him smile, but laughing seems to come very naturally. That is, if he is laughing at you, not with you.

History: Allister's father is the Commander of England's navy and he has not seen him since he left on a voyage to Cape Horn 7 years ago. Allister's mother is completely obsessed with being thoroughly involved in every noble family's business on the whole British Isle. She is at every gathering, ball, and tea party and hosts quite the spectacles of her own. Allister has an older sister, Clara, whom he admires very much, but would never let anyone know other than her.

Other: Allister is looking for someone who can either stand up to him or accept him for who he really is so that he can show a different side of himself.

Strange, dark eyes flicked up from the pages of a book when the soft morning breeze picked up, fluttering the leaves in the trees and the long grass on the ground. The wind tossed Cadence's dark curls over her shoulders, but the girl did not bother to try and tame them; her spiraled tresses would do as they pleased no matter what outside influences were pressed upon them.

She closed her book and leaned back on straightened arms, turning her face upward and letting her lids fall closed over dark eyes. The long grass tickled her arms and hands, but Cadence payed it no mind, as the wind was already settling back down.

A small sigh escaping from her lips, her eyes now traveled up to the huge castle that was now her home. She was settled in the grass just off the path that led from the road up to the huge double doors that were the main entrance to the castle. This was where she came to read nearly every morning, save for those during which the weather was uncooperative.

But today was a beautiful, sunny day, and yet still cool enough to be comfortable.

A small smile settling on her face, she picked up her book and once more entered another world within the pages.

-----------------------------------

The cool breeze came in through the open window, raising goosebumps on the arms of the boy as he slept peacefully. Unfortunately for him, being a light sleeper, this was enough to rouse him from his slumber. After rolling over with a frustrated groan and dozing off for a few more minutes, Ben sat up in bed, running a hand through his tousled dark locks.

Standing up while mumbling quietly to himself about the open window, he moved over to the washbasin that sat in the corner of his room. Ben filled his hands with cool water and splashed it gently on his face, which was a surefire way to completely awaken him.

Dressing quickly in dark khaki trousers and a white cotton shirt, Ben left his room and bounded down the stairs, feeling a slight rumble in his stomach.

Since he had been staying at Spence for the past couple of weeks, Ben had been quick to establish good relationships with all of the staff, especially Brigid, the cook.

Poking his head in the door of the kitchen, his dark eyes spotted the woman cleaning out a pot over a large washbasin. They also noticed a basket of muffins within arms reach of the door, so he plucked one quickly from the top before quietly closing the door behind him. He moved into the Great Hall and sat in a large, comfortable chair near the roaring fireplace, settling down before beginning his small-yet-delicious breakfast.

Running a brush one last time over her long golden locks, Victoria watched herself calmly in the mirror that faced her. Her ankles were crossed properly beneath her as she sat in her bedroom, putting the last finishing touches on her appearance. It wasn't like she was going to a ball or anything, but she always felt the need to look lovely nevertheless.

She carefully placed the brush down on the vanity before touching her hair lightly to ensure that it was soft and perfect. Finding her hair acceptable, Vitoria stood quietly and smoothed out her pale pink dress, making sure it was set perfectly on her abnormally thin body. It had a tight square neckline that accentuated her tiny waist and the fullness of her petticoat.

Dark eyes glanced around the room before her feet carried her slowly out of her room and down the long set of stairs. One hand held her skirt to keep herself from tripping on it while the other hand grazed over the railing, helping her keep her balance down the decent.

As her feet landed on the rug at the bottom, her head turned from left to right, in search for someone or something of interest to her so early in the morning. Other students always scattered themselves along the grounds and throughout the building, never finding themselves in close contact with another student. But Victoria wanted to arouse conversation, flirt with a boy or two and start her day off well.

So she moved swiftly towards the Great Hall, knowing she would find someone there, male or female. Upon entering it, her eyes scanned the room, quickly settling upon Ben. He was definitely easy on the eyes, especially so early in the morning. The corner of her mouth upturned in a soft smirk, finding him to be her early morning target.

Victoria walked with slow purpose, not wanting to seem overly eager to reach him by the warm fireplace. "Good morning Ben," she spoke in greeting as she reached him, lightly setting herself down on a chair across from him, her dark eyes watching him with interest.

- - - - - -

Hands stuffed in his tight fitting black trousers, Rylan walked aimlessly on the dirt path that led around the school, his eyes wandering from sight to sight. It was a beautiful day and he felt the need to bask in the warm autumn sun. He had to squint to keep the sun out of his eyes, but it was all part of the experience. He loved the cool breeze that ruffled his strange red hair and blew ripples over his loose fitting white collared button shirt. It was nice just to stroll alongside the soft green grass and admire the bright blue sky.

Sighing contently, Rylan's stomach growled in protest to the fact that he hadn't eaten yet. Glaring down at his stomach, he wished he could pass a meal without feeling the need to eat. He just wanted to admire the bright morning sun and soft chirp of the birds. But he tried to ignore his stomach and concentrate on the outdoors, the beauty it held.

Areta had been up, wandering the grounds, for quite some time. Nightmares of her homeland had kept her awake, and as soon as she could see the misty sun over the horizon she was out of bed, getting dressed. She wore a simple pale blue dress, and her dark wavy hair was pulled out of her eyes with a blue ribbon, but wisps of hair kept escaping. She settled under a willow tree just off the dirt path and leaned back against it, pulling a book and pencil out of her satchel. She opened it and began a sketch of Spence.

No?lle Linford

Age: 16

Gender: Female

Appearance: No?lle has a very petite frame. She stands at 5' with shoes on and she has a slender, almost childlike frame with very subtle curves. No?lle's hair is a champagne blond, so fair that it's nearly white and it lays naturally straight. Her skin is very fair and she has a rosy complexion. Her eyes are an icy blue framed by long, pale lashes. She has a shy smile and she generally looks quite timid and fragile.

Personality: No?lle is quite shy and seems to live her life by the strict social code of the Victorian era. She is the sort of girl who seems to lack imagination or a backbone. She never speaks out of turn and and always does exactly as she's told. No?lle is a bit jumpy but very kind and charitable if you take the time to get to know her.

History: No?lle is the only child in her family. Her father is from a very well off family, native to England, and met her mother who was the daughter of a simple musician during a visit to France. They lived in Paris while No?lle was young (her father's parents made it clear that No?lle's mother was not welcome in their home) but returned to England when No?lle was six after her mother passed away. She spent the rest of her childhood being brought up as a proper young lady under her grandmother's tutelage in their countryside estate.

Tristan Gallagher

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Appearance: Tristan stands at 5'9" with what one might consider an athletic build if athletics had been more popular during the time. He has copper colored hair with a bit of a curl to it and his skin is just a touch tanner than most would consider fashionable. To add to his "common" appearance, he has a smattering of freckles across his nose.

Personality: While absentminded and clumsy when it comes to the all the rules and social intricacies, Tristan is an upbeat and lively person. Always looking to joke around and have fun, he has a hard time keeping himself from smiling. Tristan's carefree attitude has made himself quite unpopular among his teachers and those at Spence who take themselves (and the school) seriously. Honest and energetic, he finds all of the classes an absolute waste of time.

History: Tristan's family was originally from English but relocated to Ireland in the mid 1800's to help govern the Irish (collect taxes). He is the second youngest child in a family of seven children and one of five boys. He and his brothers spent quite a bit of time outdoors, roaming their land in Ireland and he came to Spence with much less polish than most of his classmates.

Ben

Not too much longer after Ben sat down in his chair by the fire, he heard light footsteps slowly approaching him. He did not turn to look, though, until he heard w voice speak his name.

"Why, hello there, Victoria," he said, his dark eyes flitting over the slim girl in polite interest. "You're up quite early."

His eyebrows rose slightly as he watched her settle in the chair across from him, as he was surprised to see anyone but himself up so early. He was glad she was here, though, and this occurrence would at least make the morning more interesting than it would have been had she not decided to come.

No?lle stepped out of her room and paused. Having only attended Spence Academy for a few weeks, she was far from familiar with the twisting corridors that wound their way through the school. She had overheard a group of older girls talking about how girls had gotten lost in the large building and never been found. No?lle did not want to be included in one of those stories she she slowly made her way through the same corridors she had been shown when she arrived at the school in the direction of the library.

Her careful pace was not only a result of her uncertain memory but also from the tight corset that had been tied an hour earlier. The girls that dressed them at Spence tied it much tighter than Miss Quincy ever had at home and No?lle found herself gasping for breath if she moved too quickly. The small girl wore an austere navy dress. One that was fashionable that the dressmaker had promised would bring out her pale blue eyes. And her pale blond hair was half tied back with a navy ribbon.

Once she found the library, No?lle stepped inside and glanced around to check that the room was empty. Once she was certain that no one else was there, No?lle pulled a book from the shelf without glancing at the title. Carefully, the petite child balanced the book atop her head and took a few steps forwards. Satisfied with the weight of the novel, No?lle bent her legs and swept her arm out in a graceful curtsy. She held it until her muscles began to tremble then stood and repeated the exercise. They had practiced this exercise during comportment the day before and No?lle had been awful at it, her muscles seemed to tire too quickly causing the book to fall before the other girls even showed any signs of strain or effort. So she practiced in the library, hoping to strengthen her poor muscles so she wouldn't do quite so poorly the next time.

---

Tristan awoke slowly. The previous evening had involved a bit of late-night gambling where he had lost as much money as he'd won the evening before. Not that it mattered, he'd win it back eventually. Brightened by his optimism, Tristan hopped out of bed and began the long process of getting dressed. He would have been content with just his pants, shoes and shirt- none of these extras like suspenders ties and jackets. When Tristan left his room, his tie was loose and lopsided, his hair uncombed and unruly, and his shoes were scuffed and dusty from a game of cricket he'd played yesterday afternoon. Sure he'd be yelled at but at least he would be comfortable until then.

His stomach grumbled and Tristan considered going to wait in the Great Hall for Breakfast to begin but instead he decided to wait outside. Outside, he wouldn't get in trouble for his sloppy appearance quite so soon. And sunlight streamed through the windows, revealing one of England's rare sunny days. It was going to be a good day, he told himself as he rushed through the stone corridors and bounded out of the doors into the bright sunlight.

England was typically wet and gray, and in celebration of the glorious sun, Tristan took a step forwards and cartwheeled away from while singing the Hallelujah chorus from Handel's Messiah. Music was the one class Tristan did well in, though it was a result of a natural aptitude rather than effort.

Areta had just begun sketching the intricate arches above the window of the west wing, enjoying the silence interrupted by the occasional bird twitter, when she heard loud singing. Her eyes flashed quickly with annoyance, but then curiosity began to overcome her as she realized that the singing was actually quite lovely.

She slowly began to rise from underneath the willow tree where she was sitting. Her dark hair fell over her eyes, and she quickly tied it back again. Smiling slightly to herself for a moment, she enjoyed the feeling of the warm sun on her back and face. She stretched, immodestly exposing her ankles, but not caring. Who liked being modest anyway?

She slowly began to look around, her hazel eyes taking in everything around her, until they came to the figure of a young man walking down the path.

Victoria held a small smile on her lips, holding back a smirk since he might find that rude. She didn't cross her ankles like she was supposed to, but she did place her hands neatly on her lap on top of her satin dress. She listened to him, raising one corner of her mouth at his comment about her being up so early.

"My early is different than your early," she commented, her brilliant eyes watching his face closely as he ate, wanting to see how he would react.

Cadence

After reading for a while longer than she normally does, Cadence set her book on her lap once again, averting her strange eyes up so she could survey her surroundings. There were more students outside now, and that usually signaled when it was time for her morning ride.

Cadence stretched her slim arms over her head and turned her face towards the sky, stretching out her back and sides from sitting in one place for so long. A sigh of contentment passed through her slightly parted lips and left a soft smile on her face.

She stood up and brushed herself off as daintily as possible, picked her book up from the ground, and stepped onto the gravel path that led around the castle towards the barn. Her dark ringlets bounced softly as she walked, untamed in the outside air, and her strange violet-sapphire eyes darted around, taking in every detail of her surroundings.

As she continued along the path, the back of her light blue dress dragging along the ground ever so slightly, she noticed a boy walking in her direction. Well, she noticed his hair first, then he himself.

Cadence had never seen hair such a color, but as they drew closer to one another, she could tell that it worked well with his face and didn't look strange at all. He seemed to be actually quite good-looking, but they were too far apart for her to tell much.

---------------------

Ben

"Ah," Ben replied, returning her small smile, but curving up one side of his lips in a more flirtatious manner. "Well, seeing how we arrived at nearly the same time, I do believe that we might think alike...in this respect, at least."

Ben's dark eyes looked over the girl's face for a moment, and he could see the flirtacious intent behind her seemingly innocent smile. That was one thing he had grown to enjoy about Victoria; she always kept him guessing.

Running a hand through his dark hair, Ben leaned back in his chair and placed one ankle on his other knee, resting his hands on his lap. Seeing how he had eaten in front of her and she hadn't had anything to eat, he felt it would be polite for him to offer to get her something.

"Would you care for something to eat?" he asked, raising an eyebrow just a little bit, his dark eyes meeting hers.

Victoria saw how his smile sat, one side upturned more than the other. She could tell he acting flirtatious too, which only made her want to flirt back more. So she let her smile widen more, an eyebrow rising as he spoke again. She wasn't sure what to say back, so she paused in thought, wondering what whitty response she could speak.

"That could be quite possible," Victoria responded flirtatiously, lifting a hand and brushing some hair out of her view so she could see Ben more clearly.

She watched his movements and she let her hand fall back down into her lap, wondering how far this conversation would go. As he asked about her getting food, she gave a small sigh in thought, wondering if she dared eat something this morning.

"Oh, I'm not feeling very hungry at the moment, thanks," she spoke with a passive voice, as if it wasn't a big deal.

- - - - - - - - - - -

Rylan kicked at the dirt as he walked down the path, dark green eyes staring at the ground. He didn't know where he was walking to, or what his intentions were with the walk. Sighing, he squinted against the bright sun again, trying to look out to see if there was anyone out on the path in front of him.

His eyes spotted a girl with dark curly hair walking in his direction down the same path. Pulling a hand out of his pocket and trying to fix his mesy hair so he could see more clearly.

He let a smile crawl onto his face as they neared each other, giving her a nod. "Good morning," he spoke, eyes watching her walk.

Tristan finished his series of cartwheels as he came to the path. He wiped his hands on his jacket and continued down the path, whistling the Messiah as he walked. Tristan wasn't sure exactly where he was walking to, or what he intended to do that morning. Ideally, he'd find one of his friends and they'd start up a quick game of cricket or badmiton. He'd even settle for croquet this morning. Of course, it was against the rules to engage in sport before breakfast but how else were you supposed to work up a healthy appetite? Or perhaps he'd go explore the forbidden woods.

He rounded a bend in the path and paused, noticing one of the girls sitting beneath a tree, "Brilliant morning, don't you agree?" He asked, knowing it was polite to stop and make some sort of conversation. After all, it wasn't like he had much else to do.

As they slowly grew nearer to one another, Cadence never allowed her gaze to slip away from his. Her violet-sapphire eyes stayed locked on his bright green ones, looking up slightly through long, dark eyelashes. A small, close-lipped smile made its way onto her features as he addressed her with a polite greeting.

Cadence acknowledged his greeting with a small nod of her own, but she did not stop to speak to him as other girls would. This was how she was different from most other girls; She chose not to fawn over the men as if they were the most important thing in the entire world.

From her experiences, men all worked in the same way: They would give a girl just a little bit of attention, just enough to make her feel special, then they would want nothing more to do with her. It's always too late for the poor girl, though; by this time, she would be completely infatuated with the man and go pining after him, making a fool of herself just to get that special feeling again.

This was why Cadence usually kept to herself. She figured that instead of flirting with all of the boys and risk falling for the wrong one, she would wait for the right one to show her that he was different from the others.

And so, she passed by this young man, merely giving him an alluring smile and a small nod of her head. Continuing on her way down the path towards the barn, she allowed herself only one look back towards him, flipping her dark curls to her right shoulder and glancing over her left for a brief moment.

Shrugging his shoulders nonchalantly as she politely refused his offer, Ben averted his eyes from hers to glance around the room. He had the nagging feeling that he was forgetting about something, so he brought his gaze back to Victoria to distract himself.

Considering that the both of them were usually flirtatious with other people of the opposite gender, it was quite funny how easily they could disguise their flirtatious intents behind seemingly innocent gestures and words. However, he wasn't sure how long this particular conversation was going to last.

Just as he opened his mouth to ask the blonde about her agenda for the day, Ben was finally hit by what he had forgotten to do.

"Blast!" he exclaimed, suddenly jumping up from his chair. He would have held his tongue around other people, but he figured that Victoria didn't really mind cursing. He ran a hand through his hair and brought his eyes back to hers. "Pardon me, but I forgot to take Skye outside this morning."

Victoria picked at her dress as she sat, glancing down at her pale hands as she waited for something to happen. She glanced up to see his nod, a small tiny smirk still on her face as she watched him from under long lashes. She let her eyes fall back down though, wondering what else they could talk about. There wasn't much to converse about in the early morning, especially when you were just sitting across from each other, not standing or sitting next to each other. The position of where you sat or stood really impacted what kind of conversation you had, and just sitting definitely ruined a conversation easily.

As he jumped up and swore, Victoria jumped in her seat slightly, surprised by his loud voice. Looking up at him with wide eyes, she was wondering why he was making such a big deal. But as he explained himself, she relaxed back into the soft seat and sighed. If he had to leave he had to leave, but she really wished he wouldn't leave her alone.

"If you must," she said dismissively, lifting a hand and waving him off. She hadn't taken her dog out either, but little Jackie was fine with sleeping most of the morning, so she wasn't even going to bother making it as big of a deal as he did.

Rylan watched as the girl gave him a polite nod and kept walking. He raised an eyebrow at her actions, surprised that she didn't stop and converse. He didn't mind much though, just keeping his eyes on her as she passed, his head turning to look over his shoulder as she trailed away. He took a couple of side steps before looking forward again, trying his best to shrug it off.

Squinting again into the bright sun, he sighed contently, glancing around to see where he should walk to. He saw a couple others walking around or sitting on the ground, enjoying the bright sun as much as he. He decided he might as well go inside and get something to eat, or find something to entertain him. But he would keep on the dirt path until he reached the front doors, just in case some other opportunity came his way.

Areta widened her eyes slightly at red hair of the boy in front of her. Of course, she'd seen red hair before, but none quite that...bright. She placed her sketch book and pencil back into her satchel quietly, and stepped forward into the light. She shielded her eyes, as her long hair once again came loose from the captivity of the ribbon and cascaded down her back. She didn't smile at him, but her eyes did.

"Oh yes, it's quite delightful." she responded quietly. Before she could stop it, another sentence slipped out; "Was that you singing? It was quite lovely!" Making a slight grimace at her lack of manners, she fidgeted slightly, not wanting to stand still.

"Lovely?" Tristan groaned, running a hand through his dishevled hair. "Bollocks! I was aiming for a more light hearted tone. Ideally, exuberant would have been an appropriate critique. And you might have also mentioned that I was a bit off key and butchered Handel's original vision for his great masterpiece. But lovely? Really?" Lovely was such a feminine word, not one that Tristan ever wanted to be described by. But a smile lit his face as he realized that if this girl had enjoyed his slightly unconventional interpretation of a classical piece, she might be a kindered spirit. Or at least quite as stiff and boring as the other girls at the school.

Ava

Ava was still trying to get used to her new home at Spence. She awoke early this morning and tidied her already spotless room. Since she just turned 16 the week she arrived at Spence, Ms. Nightwing thought it best that she had a corner room to herself to allow her to "better understand herself". This did not bother Ava. She liked to be alone. This would allow her to write to her brother more often without having to explain everything to a roommate. As she stepped to her bay window, she looked at the breath-taking atmosphere Spence had to offer. Ava admitted to herself that this would not be difficult to get used to. As she surveyed the landscape, she noticed some students roaming around the yard. Ava liked to watch people. It was her own way of getting to know people before actually knowing them. She liked to test her instincts.

All of a sudden she heard a large growling sound that seemed to come from her stomach. Who knew such a ferocious sound could come from such a slight girl. She decided to make her way downstairs, quietly, and look for something to eat. Having just moved in a week ago, she also decided to plan a little adventure around the castle so she could learn the ways of her new home. On her way down the majestic main staircase, she was surprised to see two students finishing up a conversation. All of a sudden the boy shot up faster than a spooked flock of birds and swore. This made Ava giggle and smile to herself.

Allister

Allister woke to the sound of students talking and walking outside his door. This did not please him. He enjoyed his sleep, especially since he just laid down 2 hours before he was so "rudely" awakened. Reluctantly, he sat up in his bed, threw on his slightly wrinkled black trousers and left his shirt half-buttoned with rolled up sleeves. He rubbed a hand through his messy locks and started on his way to bug his favorite person at Spence, Brigid. Allister sauntered into the kitchen and stole a fresh biscuit off the pan Brigid was just bringing out of the stone oven, despite brigid's warnings. Allister liked teasing her, she reminded him of his childhood governess, a woman he had bonded to whilst his mother was not around. Allister leaned against the counter striking a conversation with Brigid about the upcoming year at Spence and what they thought it would hold.

[[Think of the forest as being like the Forbidden Forest in Harry Potter]]

Cadence continued slowly down the path towards the barn, not in any hurry at all. She allowed her eyes to wander about over the surroundings, but for some reason, they always went back to the forest that was supposedly forbidden. Stopping for just a moment, she peered into the mess of trees.

There wasn't much underbrush, just a blanket of brown leaves on the ground, from what she could see. The trees were huge, so tall that almost no light could get through to the ground. Since it was still early in the morning, a blanket of fog sat low to the ground, weaving throughout the trees as far as she could see. It was quite a foreboding sight, but she also found it entrancing and beautiful in a strange way.

Shaking her head softly, she forced herself to move on down closer to the barn before she got any ideas.

---------------------

Feeling somewhat foolish for making such an explosion out of a seemingly small thing, Ben tried to relax a little bit and redeem himself. However, he was quite terrified of what he would come to see in his bedroom if he left the dog up there for too long. He thought he remembered Victoria having a dog as well, but he wasn't sure.

"If I remember correctly, you have a dog as well, yes?" he asked Victoria, rubbing a hand behind his neck sheepishly, feeling somewhat embarrassed. That was an unusual feeling for him, and he didn't like it at all.

He though he heard a slight giggle coming from behind him, so he gave a quick glance over his shoulder to see what the noise was. It was a girl with dark hair and a darker skin tone, which was rare in this area. He had sure that they hadn't met before, and that aroused a slight curiosity within him, but he kept his attention on Victoria for the moment.
