Xzantrol Or Vicks Vapor Rub

Recommended Posts

My gelding is often seasonally congested...the vet has checked him thoroughly and has determined there is nothing, but maybe a bug or two "bugging" him as I live in Florida. I was wondering if anyone has heard of using vicks vapor rub for this...also what about Xzantrol? This looks to be a product to clear congesting....I've personally never heard of it and am interested in your replies. Thank you!!

I've heard where people have used eucalyptus oil in a baby steam humidifier type thing (that you plug in), to help with congestion due to colds, in foals. I don't know how well it worked tho.

It sounds to me like it's an allergy type thing. Perhaps trees in bloom, grass or snow mold (if you get snow), could be your culprit here. Is there not some kind of antihistamine that your vet could give you for this horse? I'm assuming it isn't an upper or lower respiratory infection.
