Concerts

Recommended Posts

I'm going to Taylor Swift on October 1st in Pittsburgh. The last concert I was at was .... 98* when I was in 6th grade, so it'll be an experience, since I'm an "adult" now. What should I wear? [Crazy]

I went to like 3 *NSYNC concerts when they were ENORMOUS, and they were always in such large venues, and the good seats would be sold instantly so I could never see anything more than 5 dancing specks.

Then I started seeing concerts at small venues (nightclubs, one at the house of blues*chicago, fairs, etc) and now I will never want to see anyone in a big venue! Actually, one of the upcoming shows on my list is at the 'Southeaster Church,' lol.

I'm always so sad when concert season is over... I have to cram in as many as I can before all my favorites are finished!

This summer:

I saw CrueFest2, and a bunch of others that weren't terribly memorable for free. (I live across the street form the big outdoor venue near Houston, so I can sit on the rooftop of the building and see anything that comes to that venue for free...)

Next week I have tickets to Def Leppard (with Poison and Cheap Trick). I'm SOOOOO excited. I LOVE Dep Leppard. Like it's insane. I was born 10 years too late for how much I love this band.

OH. MY. GOD!! You're incredibly lucky! I'm so desperate to see Crue Fest, one of the bands was Sixx:AM, and I adore Def Leppard and Poison. Am super envious!!

Why can't the UK bring in decent band tours? Motley Crue and Def Leppard came in July for Download 2009 at Donington Park but couldnt go since lack of money and distance of the event.

You're sooo lucky! and I agree about being born too late for when they were in their prime. I'm happy to have seen three of GNR live and Slash rocked the stage.

Would love to see Lynrd Skynrd and The Scorpions

OK, so the Jason Mraz show at the Indiana State Fair was amazing!

My sister and I waited outside the gates for about 2 hours and then I ran like I was trying to win the Olympics and snagged the first spot on the front row. This group of drunk super annoying girl were next to us, and through the entire night shrieked, screamed, pushed, shoved, and were generally incredibly rude. By the end of the night, my sister and I were in the second row, because the 4 drunk cows had not only pushed us down, but out. We held our position for a long time, but weren't enjoying the show, so we finally just stepped back.

Jason Mraz was just as awesome when we were in the second row as the first :) Aah, it was a good night on the whole.

Next Up: Jon McLaughlin (again) on September 4! In Louisville, which is an easier/better drive than Indianapolis.

I'm going to see Lil Wayne, Soulja Boy, Drake (if he's healed I guess), Young Jeezy, and Pleasure P next week in Cincinnati.

Whatttt. You are coming to Cincinnati to go to the concert I wanna go to! And I don't even get to go!

Lol, I got my friend tickets for her birthday. Mind you, they're the worst tickets you can possibly buy (on the lawn) but hey, I don't feel like spending $200 on her, ahhaha.

You should gooo! The Gen. Admis. tickets are like $27.

Hey, are there any good hotels by the venue? We'll likely stay overnight so I don't crash into a wall on the highway on the way home...lol..but I've never been to this venue and don't really know the area. Is it near the Newport area at all?

Um... not really near Newport. I mean the highway to get to Newport is right there so if you wanted to drive to Newport and stay somewhere there, you could. I think. I've never tried to get to Newport from there though. I'm not familiar with any hotels near Riverbend. There's a list of hotels here: http://www.riverbend.org/local.php Riverbend is relatively close to my house but I am never there so I don't really know about any of the hotels in that specific area...

Lawn tickets aren't bad. It's like one big party haha at least in my experiences.

The closest ones, according to Priceline, are all in Newport, or downtown Cincinnati. Priceline currently has the Travellodge in Newport at $47/night, but there are a lot of options. Check it out :)

I'm from Cincinnati-area too - I'm in Northern Kentucky. The last concert I saw at Riverbend's main stage was *NSYNC, and I was on the lawn. Behind a giant pole. I decided I would never do that again. I saw Jason Mraz open for Sheryl Crow at the new Pavilion... much better!

Have fun at the show!

My Jon McLaughlin show on the 4th fell through. As it turns out, it's a semi-private show.

So, nothing to see until The Elms on the 24th, which is such a long way away :(

The year started off slow for us, but it's picking up late in the game! We kicked off our own personal 2009 Concert Series with Old 97's in Indianapolis July 23 AND July 24 in Louisville. These guys are so killer live. People who don't like this band simply haven't heard them yet.

i still don't like 'em

Haa! I don't mind them, but I'm not a huge fan, either.

Um. I would've gone to the Wanderlust Festival (Andrew Bird, Jenny Lewis, Rogue Wave, the Dap Kings, Broken Social Scene, Girl Talk, Spoon... and a bunch of yogis, no lie) this summer if my brother hadn't turned down the free tickets. Siiiigh.

It's alright. There'll be a bunch of hippie bands at the river festival.

Well, hopefully I'll be safer on the lawn than in the pit. At my last concert I ended up in the ER and missed the headlining band. Good times!

Did you go to Lil Wayne? How was it? I heard it wasn't that great and it was over pretty early. But I am still rather upset that I didn't go, hahaha.

No, I couldn't go...we left for TN since my grandfather passed away. My friend couldn't even GIVE the tickets away. I was going to ask you if you wanted them, but I didn't have a way to get them to you because she had them.

Clearly it's because you're either deaf or have no musical taste.

Just kidding ;)

That just means more for ME!

Time to bring this back to life.

Since last time, here's the scoop:

The OneRepublic show at the Horseshoe Casino didn't work out - tickets were pretty pricey and the seating wasn't "standing room" which for me is a no-go. They don't have anything near me on their schedule as of right now, but I'm hopeful that that will change after the album is released. They'll be in Europe for a bit now, so perhaps after they'll make a stop somewhere near Cincinnati.

On the upside, the Rhett Miller show (and the entire Chicago trip) was nothing short of amazing. He played a killer set - 29 songs! The venue was really terrific and we were front row as usual. Talked briefly with Rhett after the show and got our photo with him. He continues to be one of the most gracious rock'n'rollers I've ever met. Always up for autographs and pictures and chit-chat. On the way back to the hotel, my sister and I basically floated home on a post-Rhett cloud.

Gosh, I never posted about The Elms show at Midpoint Music Festival in here. I wrote a seperate thread about it, so I'll touch on this real quick-like. It was AWESOME. The Elms are a real thrill live - I only wish more people had come out! MPMF was large this year (270 bands over 3 days!) and it was damp and rainy the day The Elms played - very poor crowd. The bonus for us is that we basically had them to ourselves after the show :)

Next we saw The Elms again! This was only a few days ago at the Vogue Theater in Indianapolis. This was a big show for them because they headlined in their hometown. The crowd here was fantastic. Sister and I got in for some soundcheck thanks to the local radio station who could clearly tell we were rabid Elms fans. Soundcheck sounded great - afterwards talked with the fellas a little before heading back outside to wait for the doors to open.

The show itself was incredible! THE best show I've been to all year, and maybe ever. The opening acts were terrific - Henry French & The Shameless and Green River Ordinance set the mood up for The Elms to rock the stage. (ps: check out the above mentioned bands on facebook - they're rockin'!) They were so ON this night, feeding off their hometown crowd and of course my sister and I geeking out in the front row.

There aren't words to describe this show. I will never forget it, that's for dang sure. My sister has some videos on the show on her youtube channel if anyone would be interested in seeing - but be warned: they're not real still because she was dancing :)

Next Stop on our Tour List:

The Elms at Southgate House, December 18

I saw Brad Paisley back in October. He was AMAZING. We missed Dierks Bentley due to traffic, which was really depressing. We could seriously hear him from the interstate stopped bumper to bumper traffic because our venue is terrible with parking. We got lawn tickets, since it was a bunch of broke high school kids, but we found a great spot right on the front fence line. Anyone who wants to see him, I STRONGLY advise you to go :)

I was suppose to see Mayday Parade the following week, but it was on like a Thursday night two hours away. I wasnt allowed to go lol

And now I have Taylor Swift tickets for when she extended her Fearless tour in March! Im so excited :D

Recently saw Old Crow Medicine Show and it was AMAZING! Further cementing them as possibly my favorite band ever...

Also saw Cloud Cult several times this year, saw Metric, and a really hillarious David Bowie tribute concert, transvestites included.

I'm going to see The David Rawlings Machine (incl. Gillian Welch)on December 9 and I CAN'T WAIT! So good...

Time to bring this back to life.

I know a few people have gone to some concerts since the last post was made in late November, so spill! Give us all the awesome details!

Everyone should know I saw The Elms at Southgate House (Cincinnati, OH) last Friday. EPIC SHOW. They took a few requests, including mine of the "rarely-played" The Chess Hotel. I know I said The Elms at the Vogue Theater was the best show I've seen all year (or ever), but...this was pretty freaking awesome.

Next Up: The Elms at Zionsville High School in Zionsville, IN.

This will be the 5th time I've seen The Elms since discovering them in mid-August.

Actually, if anyone lives near Indianpolis, this is a show you should try to make. It's a benefit for Africa Water Is Life. Tickets are $10-$15...I'm not sure what the difference is except there much be some different seating?

January 16, everyone! This school is about 15 minutes outside Indianapolis, and this show is for a great cause. Come out and suport not only The Elms, but also Africa Water Is Life.

I'll post about this again as the date gets closer, but in reality it's only about 3 weeks away.

Here's how my year is shaping up so far:

January 16, The Elms at Zionsville High School, Zionsville, IN

February 12, The Elms at Gerstle's, Louisville, KY

Feburary 19, Green River Ordinance at Radio Radio, Indianapolis, IN

Feburary 20, Green River Ordianance at The Basement, Columbuis, OH

Oh my Lord, and that's only the first 2 months!

I anticipate 2010 being an AWESOME year for concerts and music.
