Shane's gaze shifted between Adriana and the rest of the party as he searched for Liam. When he finally saw him, with his mouth red and hair mussed, Shane groaned inwardly. Shane had interrupted Liam to essentially tell him that he wanted to get it on with his younger sister. He was so dead.

But Liam had seen him and now there was no going back. "I just wanted to let you know that I think your sister is into me. And, well, I know I'm into her. I don't know what's going to happen tonight, but you're my friend so I wanted to give you a heads up." Shane spoke slowly, searching carefully for words. He wasn't sure what he would do if Liam wasn't okay with it. If he would choose friendship over the uncertainty that went along with pursuing Adriana. Logic told him that it would be wise to back off, but his gut told him that his friendly obligations to Liam ended with this conversation.

----

Shelby rolled her eyes as he pushed himself away from her and stood up. If she had known that the text would bring things to a screaming halt, Shelby would have thrown it into the ocean. Or maybe just a couple feet away. "He better be dying," She muttered, ignoring the hand he had extended and instead reaching for the wine. Shelby clambered to her feet on her own, lifting the bottle to her lips as he brushed the sand off her clothing.

She was silent as they made their way back to the party. With Liam's hand in her pocket, Shelby had no choice but to wrap her arm around his waist to walk comfortably. She tried to ignore the way she seemed to fit against him so neatly and was both relieved and disappointed when they finally reached the edge of the party. "You have two minutes," She warned as he walked away. "Don't be tardy."

Shelby glanced around, suddenly unsure of what to do now that she was alone. Usually she preferred solitude, but Liam's taste was still in her mouth and she felt cold without his arms around her and she felt... lonely. Shelby lifted the bottle to her mouth, taking a large gulp this time, hoping that the wine would wash the taste of him from her mouth. She found an empty lawn chair and sat, pulling her knobby knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. Shelby rested her forehead on her knees, closed her eyes and, as always, asked herself what she was doing and who she thought she was fooling.

Shelby's warning echoed through his brain as he listened to Shane. His angled jaw tightened even more; he had known what the conversation was going to be about, but that didn't meant he was ready for it. He glanced over toward his sister, who was watching him expectantly, her gaze threatening, before turning his attention back to Shane. Liam released a light sigh, running his fingers through his already mussed hair.

"I obviously can't say that you can't do it, both of you are adults; but I honestly can't say that I'm happy about it either," he appraised Shane carefully, "You're in charge of her for the rest of the night though. Make sure she's either at home or at...your house. And take care of her, or I will get angry about this."

Not feeling like there was anything else to say, he turned slowly, not sure how their friendship would be affected by this. Liam didn't want to make Shane chose, that wasn't fair, and he couldn't tell Adriana not to do it, it would simply push her towards him; so, he had to accept things the way they were.

His feet sunk lightly into the sand and he headed back in the direction where he'd left Shelby. "See? Less than two-" he trailed off as soon as she came into full view. She didn't look happy; he knew she'd been annoyed by him interrupting, but she seemed...upset. He gently ran his fingers over her hands and sunk to his knees in front of her. "You alright?"

"Thanks man," Shane grinned, clapping his friend on the back as he went to find Adriana again. "And sorry for interrupting, tell her that it's all my fault," He added quietly, lifting his shoulders in an apologetic shrug before Liam turned away.

He walked towards the keg with a bounce in his step, circling an arm around Adriana's waist when he finally reached her side. With his other hand, Shane reached up and gently brushed her hair behind her ear before letting it rest lightly on her shoulder. "Now, where exactly did we leave off?" He whispered, his mouth by her ear and his voice too soft for any of her friends (and his former students) to hear.

---

Shelby sat still until she felt a pair of hands on hers, and she instinctively drew hers away letting them rest on her delicate ankles instead. When she heard Liam's voice, she took stock of her face making sure she appeared bored and nonchalant, rather than vulnerable. "I'm fine," Shelby responded, rolling her eyes at the question to prove to Liam, and herself, that she really was.

She rested her chin on her knees for a moment, observing him carefully. Everything seemed different from her perspective on the chair. He was looking up at her, concerned and expectant. Shelby wondered if he knew that this was just for tonight, that tomorrow this would just be a memory. For a moment, she considered telling him but she didn't. Shelby wanted to be sure that she was the one walking away, rather than the one getting left behind. So instead, Shelby slid from the chair, allowing herself to tumble gently to the ground in front of him.

"But I think there might be something wrong with you," She told him with a grin, leaning closer as she reached again for her wine and took another long drink from the bottle.

Adriana smiled as a solid arm wrapped around her waist and she leaned comfortably into it. As his fingers grazed around her face, tucking her wavy hair behind her ear, and his warm breath against the freshly revealed ear made her smile widen. Apparently her brother had blessed Shane and her; not that him saying no would have stopped her.

"Later guys," she said with a small wink, her arm snaking around Shane's waist as she guided him away from the group.

She slipped between the people easily and, as they approached the area where everyone had parked their cars, Adriana slipped out of his arm, her hand catching his as she led the way through the various cars. The noise from the party was still vibrating around them when she found a group of closely clustered cars, obviously people who weren't planning on leaving for a while.

"Well," she said softly, finally answering him and turning her body to face him. She found his other hand and intertwined their fingers before continuing, "I think you might have mentioned something about making Senora Ryan jealous?"

-----

Liam was observant, he took in her carefully structured face curiously, but forced a smile as she rolled her eyes at him. When she tumbled into the sand, he grinned at her comment, "And why do you think that?"

He watched her take another sip, noting how much she'd had to drink, but he didn't react at all; he was aware that he drank very little compared to most, but that was a personal choice. He had drank enough throughout high school and college to have him set for most of his life, and was really just past the partying stage.

Shane followed Adriana willingly, letting her lead him through the party-goers to the empty cars without question. He was curious as to why she had brought him out there, of course, but he assumed it was for privacy and perhaps so they could make a quick get away if they felt so inclined. At any rate, Shane was glad when they finally stopped and her hands found his.

"Right," He nodded, smiling as he remembered the earlier conversation. "Now when you said dancing wasn't enough, did you have something specific in mind?" Shane asked, inching his body closer and keeping his hands wrapped loosely around hers.

---

"You're a little too sober," Shelby informed him, in a matter-of-fact tone, as though it were really an issue. For such a small girl, Shelby could hold her drink surprisingly well and so she was not drunk. She was tipsy, sure, but not so drunk that she wouldn't remember everything. She always made sure that she remembered. Unlike many people, Shelby didn't do anything crazy when she drank. She didn't get sloppy or dance on tables or laugh hysterically. She simply dropped her defenses, at least a little, and didn't work quite so hard to conceal her emotions.

"Which is a shame because this riesling is fantastic," Shelby told him, scooting closer and placing the bottle on the ground by his side as she reached up and placed her hand on the back of his neck. "It's very light and expressive..." She gently pulled him towards her, seeking his lips once more so that he could taste for himself.

"Hm," she said thoughtfully, as his body moved closer to her. Adriana carefully backed away from him, in a manner that made him keep coming towards her, until her back found solace against a large truck. She released his hands and lightly ran her fingers up his warm skin, before glancing back up at him with a light smile. "I don't know if I had anything specific in mind. Just a little bit of this and a little bit of that," she paused as her slender fingers ran over his strong jaw and delicately traced his soft lips, "But you know Senora Ryan better than I do, what would make her jealous?"

-----

As Shelby's fingers wrapped around his neck, he quickly forgot about how he'd found her. His tongue gently reached out to whisk the droplets of wine from her lips, before crushing her lips again. Liam's fingers wound through her hair and the belt loops of her jeans, bringing her into him. He pushed her back against the sand, not quite as gently as he had the first time, never breaking from her lips.

"Yeah, it's very light and, um, expressive," he said against her lips, trying to recall the adjectives that she had used. Liam kissed along her jawline, letting it led him to her ear, "Do you want to get out here? We can take a...field trip." The question was more forward than he normally would have been, but he felt like Shelby wouldn't mind.

For every step that Adriana took backward, Shane stepped forwards so the distance between them never varied. When she stopped, her back against the truck, Shane stopped too. He placed a hand on the truck behind on either side of her head.

When Shane felt her warm fingers on his lips, he knew it was time to stop talking. He dropped one hand, letting it pull Adriana's hand away from his mouth. With characteristic eagerness, he leaned forwards pressing their mouths together at last. A moment too late, Shane remembered his promise to take care of her and slipped a hand behind her head, providing a pillow between Adriana and the hard window as he pressed his body closer.

---

Shelby felt him against her again, more urgent now. She let herself stop thinking and lost herself in the moment. She slid her hand to the back of his head once more, pressing him into her while the other hand slid down his spine and into his back pocket.

When she heard his question, Shelby let her eyes open lazily, and nodded, "A field trip is probably a good idea," She replied, a little breathless as she looked up at him.

As his lips pressed against hers, she grinned inwardly, and allowed her eyes to flutter shut. Adriana should have been prepared for his overeager nature, but she wasn't and her head knocked lightly against the window. She smiled against the kiss, fighting back laughter; it was just so typical. She pushed her head forward, deeper against his lips, and nestled into his hand when he put it behind her head. Wrapping a hand behind his neck, her fingers reaching up and playing with the soft hair at the nape of his neck, her other hand ran down his bare spine, tucking into his back pocket to pull him closer into her. He liked his weight against her, he felt solid and warm, making her tingle with energy and excitement.

-----

Liam grinned down at her, gently unwinding his fingers from her dark hair, he pulled her up with him. He felt comfortable driving his bike with how little alcohol he'd had, not feeling even remotely buzzed. He looped his fingers through her belt loops, tucking his thumb into the waist band of her jeans as he led the way to his bike, figuring that he could bring her back to her car.

Mounting the bike, he helped Shelby get on behind him, squeezing her thigh gently. He handed her a helmet, though he didn't plan on wearing his during the short drive to his apartment. Liam drove the bike into the garage before shutting it off, letting her get off before her stepped off. Kissing her softly, he intertwined their fingers before leading the way up the stairs to the top floor.

He pulled her into the open loft, hardly closing the door before he pulled her into him, his mouth covering hers eagerly. Without releasing her mouth, he tossed his keys on the countertop of the kitchen and slowly backed her up to the couch, lowering her before he finally released her mouth.

"So, this is my place," he said softly, glancing around the open area for anything out of place and cringed inwardly when he saw his sister's clothes; that wasn't going to give off the right idea. "Do you want anything?" he asked, nodding to the kitchen.

Shane groaned softly as Adriana pulled him closer, his lips moved against hers for a moment or two until they found her rhythm. When he found it, he pressed closer until there was no space between them. Shane moved his free hand to her hip, letting it rest there. After a minute or two, he reluctantly pulled back, "Do you think that's enough to make her jealous?" Shane asked quietly, his eyes on hers searching for reassurance that Adriana still felt okay about this.

---

Shelby let him pull her up this time, and followed quietly to all the cars, wondering what he drove. When she saw the bike, Shelby bit her lip and glanced up towards Liam. She thought back to all the stories of motorcycle accidents and road burn that her father, a cop, had told her about during one of his many speeches about things that were dangerous (other topics had included boys and alcohol, but they clearly hadn't had much of an effect on her). But her jeep had a sticky clutch that most people couldn't figure out and she reasoned that it couldn't be far to his place.

So she let Liam help her onto the back and accepted the helmet gratefully. Shelby held on tight as they began to drive. In just shorts and a tank top and her bare feet, she felt exposed and cold as the cool night air rushed by, causing goosebumps to form on her arms and legs. After watching the scenery race by, and looking down to see the pavement so close, Shelby shut her eyes and pressed her face into his strong shoulders. She kept them closed until she felt the engine die underneath her. Shelby clambered off the bike, savoring the feel of the solid ground beneath her for a moment before Liam led her upstairs.

When he pulled her into him, Shelby pressed closer, hungrily seeking his warmth after the ride over. She closed her eyes again, letting him lead her blindly into his apartment. When he spoke Shelby looked around the studio apartment, she noticed some clothing strewn about that was clearly not Liam's but said nothing, "Bathroom?" She asked, figuring that she could break the seal now that she was done drinking and sauntered towards the door he'd directed her towards.

A moment later, as she dried her hands, she called out, "You know, there's something else I kind of want..." Her tone innocent and voice loud enough that he would be able to hear it no matter where he was in the apartment.

His body crushed hers against the truck and he still wasn't close enough for her. She tried to follow his lips as he pulled away from her, but leaned back against the truck when he started talking. Adriana smirked at his question, pressing her hips against his, she reached her neck up to kiss him softly. "Definitely not," she murmured against his lips, pulling back once again.

"Unless," she said, as she slowly, almost lazily, trailed her lips along his neck, finding the groove between his neck and collar bone, "You think it's enough?" Adriana glanced up at him curiously, pulling away, suddenly hesitant. She knew that his question was to make sure that she was okay, but, what if it was because he wanted to stop? The thought made her fingers stop playing with his hair and her teeth caught her lower lip in uncertainty.

-----

As she went to the bathroom, Liam got a glass of water, sipping from it until he heard Shelby's voice. He grinned to himself at her comment and began heading towards the bathroom. Liam heard the water to the sink running and leaned against he doorframe, studying Shelby with a slight smirk. "Oh? And what would that be?" he asked casually, raising an eyebrow at her. He took slow steps toward her, but stopped halfway to her, just in case she asked for something legitimate.

Shane loved the way Adriana just couldn't seem to keep get enough of him, the way her lips seemed drawn to his skin and the way that she pressed closer and closer. His brow furrowed at her sudden hesitance, Shane hadn't considered that his question would make Adriana doubt how much he was enjoying this. He raised the hand that wasn't behind her head, gently stroking her soft cheek before tilting her chin up and kissed her softly to convince her that he could never get enough. Shane pulled back, leaving his hand on her face, "I guess we'll just have to try harder then," He told her before returning his attention to her soft lips.

----

Shelby finished drying her hands, watching Liam out of the corner of her eye as he stood at the door. She said nothing, deciding instead to let her actions speak for her instead. With her gray eyes fixed on his, Shelby reached down and crossed her arms as she hooked her thumbs underneath the hem of her tank top. Slowly, she pulled it up over her head, to reveal her taught stomach and plain white cotton bra. Shelby knew that her wiry physique lacked the curves that drove guys crazy, but that had just inspired her to find ways to make up for it. She dropped the shirt on the bathroom floor and watched him carefully, waiting to see what his next move would be.

Adriana relaxed at his comment, smiling softly as his hand stroked her cheek and his lips lightly pressed against hers. She fell into an easy rhythm while kissing him, alternating between hard and gentle, sucking and nibbling, and she was enjoying herself, immensely. Her hands ran over his bare chest and back, nails scraping lightly over his skin, before they slipped into both his back pockets. His lips were soft and supple, and she found it difficult to pull away from him. But she tilted her chin down to break the kiss, taking a moment to catch her breath before glancing up at him. "Why did we wait so long to do this?" she joked with a small, short laugh. Voices and laughter were getting closer to the pair making Adriana's grin widen slightly. She slipped her lips up to his ear, "Maybe we should go somewhere else?"

-----

Liam's smile faded slightly, his facial expression becoming slightly more serious as Shelby slid the fabric over her head. In a matter of steps his lips crushed against hers and his arms wrapped around her small frame. His hands slipped behind her thighs, picking her up in one, fluid motion. He pushed her back against the shower, hungrily taking her. Liam continued his assault as he easily carried her through the apartment, releasing her as they made it to the bed. Resting a hand on either side of her, he reached down, devouring her soft lips again. His hands slipped along her soft, revealed stomach, to the button of her jeans, glancing down at her for a final reassurance.

The way Adriana's lips changed their pressure against his, going from hard and hungry to barely there and teasing, combined with her nails on his back was driving Shane crazy. He was all too happy to take her suggestion. Shane took her hand in his, leading her through the dark cars to his Focus. Shane knew his limits and he had made sure to pace himself so that he would be able to get himself home safely. He led Adriana to the passenger side first, pressing her against his own car this time in another long kiss before opening the door for her. Once she was in, Shane hurried over to his side, he turned the car on and rolled the windows down, turning down the volume of his radio for a moment before reaching across the center console to Adriana, pulling her close to press his lips to hers again. He drew back, "Where do you want to go?" Shane asked, his honest brown eyes fixed on hers, not wanting her to feel pressured at all.

---

Shelby braced herself as she watched his expression change. She had learned that this serious expression was usually followed by a wonderful onslaught by his lips. And sure enough, Liam did not disappoint. She wrapped her arms around his shoulders, clinging to him in order to keep her mouth pressed to his as he carried her to the bed. Once they were on the bed, Shelby quickly pulled his dark shirt over his head and tossed it aside. When she felt Liam hesitate with his hands at her shorts, Shelby placed her hands on his. She helped him undo the button and lifted her hips, helping him slide them off before letting her body take over and losing herself in the moment.

Hours later, when they finally collapsed together and sank into the pillows, Shelby lay on her back and stared up at the ceiling. She could feel her heart beating against her chest and wondered idly whether Liam could feel it too. Shelby was surprised at how good it had been. After the beach she knew it was going to be good, but not mind blowing. They had moved together easily, without any awkward fumbling. And he wasn't too quiet but he didn't say anything weird, which was always a plus. It was clear that they were both used to being in control, which kept things fun and fresh as they took turns leading the other. When they finally fell apart, Shelby felt content and satisfied. She wasn't sure that it had ever been like that for her. She turned her head towards Liam, wondering if it had been the same for him and what he was thinking.

She followed him willingly through the parking lot, eagerly accepting his mouth whenever it was offered to her. His question made her chuckle slightly, her blue eyes meeting his earnest brown ones, as her hand cupped his face gently. Adriana leaned forward and left a quick, soft kiss on his lips; he really was too good. "We can try my parents house, if you'd like, that would probably end up being loads of fun. But it would be so much easier if we just went to your place," she said with a faint smile, her thumb brushing over his cheek before she sat back in her seat, buckling the seat belt casually.

-----

'Wow' appeared to be the only word left in Liam's fairly expansive vocabulary as he and Shelby finally broke apart. He caught his breath quickly as he laid quietly beside her, just absorbing what had just happened. She was probably the most amazing thing he'd ever slept with. Unlike what he'd thought would happen, their mutual desire for control had melded together seamlessly and had made the experience all the better. Liam liked how she let him know when she did and didn't like something, unlike some girls, and just the way she felt and responded.

He glanced over at her in the dark, the nail clipping of a moon not providing much light, but enough that he could see her outline. Sliding an arm under her narrow waist, he pulled her back towards him, kissing her ever so gently. Liam rested his forehead against hers, a slow smile tugging at his lips, "So, did I learn all my lessons for the evening?"

"Let's go, I always enjoy my visits with Daddy Lux. I hope he's still up," Shane joked, though he was probably more scared of Mr. Lux than Liam. He pulled onto the road, keeping one hand on the steering wheel and the other intwined in her hair as he drove through the dark, empty roads of Camden. Shane pulled into his driveway and hopped out, making sure to hurry around to get the door for Adriana. He pulled her out of the car and into his arms, holding her for a moment before lowering his lips to hers after what had felt like an eternity.

Shane led her into his small cozy house, turning on the lights as he led her into the living room. He drew her towards him, hoping to distract her from the state of the room. It wasn't really messy, just cluttered with books overflowing from their shelves and papers covering most of the tables. There was a table with small bottles of paint and glue and several model airplanes in various stages of completion. But it was warm and the lights were not overly bright and Shane was convinced that his brown overstuffed couch was the most comfortable couch in Camden.

Gently, he guided Adriana over to the couch, always eager to show off its merits. Shane focused his attention on her mouth then let his gentle kisses trail downwards. He moved down her neck then followed the neckline of her v-neck before returning finding her warm lips once more.

---

Shelby let him pull her closer, letting her eyes drift shut as he moved his head towards hers. She kept them closed as he touched his forehead to hers and listened to him speak. "Yep, class dismissed," Shelby replied softly, a lazy smile tugging at her lips though she did not open her eyes. "You got a ninety-five on your final, by the way."

Adriana shook her head slightly as he rushed around to open her door but before she could comment, she was back in his arms and his lips were against hers. Her body hummed with excitement and anticipation as she followed him through his house. She instantly felt right at home in his house, preferring the cozy state of his house to her parents immaculate estate.

Before she could get a good look at his house, her eyes were closing as he kissed her. Adriana allowed herself to be pushed into his couch, sinking into the comfortable material. She kept her eyes closed as his lips trailed down her neck, tilting her chin upwards to expose more of her smooth skin. As his lips caught hers again, her fingers wound their way through his shaggy hair, pulling him deeper into the kiss with a soft moan. She shifted her frame so that he was on top of her as her hand slipped up and and down his side. Adriana wrapped a leg around his, running her bare foot along his calf.

-----

Liam kept his arm under her, but pulled away enough that they both had their own room to sleep. Snuggling in general wasn't his favorite thing; he'd do it if it was forced upon him, but he had a feeling that Shelby would like her own space. He was going to protest her grading, but what kind of person went back to higher an 'A'? He ran his fingers lightly up and down her side, his range of motion somewhat hindered by the fact that his arm was under her and he didn't want to disturb her. Liam closed his eyes, listening with contentment to Shelby's steady breathing.

Shane answered her soft moan with the low guttoral groan of a man on the verge of losing all self control. Her running up and down his calf and her restless hands had him hurtling closer and closer to the edge at a dangerous speed. Using an arm to brace himself, Shane pushed himself back.

He looked down at her, staring at her gorgeous face and bright blue eyes underneath him. "Do you know what you do to me?" Shane asked, his voice husky.

----

Shelby was grateful when Liam rolled away. She couldn't stand cuddling. Not because it made it harder to sleep or because she didn't want to be that close to another person when they were already sweaty and gross, but because it made it made it that much harder to leave without disturbing the other person. And Shelby was already planning her exit.

She rolled to her side so that she faced away from Liam, freeing his arm as she moved. From this position, Shelby was able to let her eyes crack open so she could get a feel for the layout of his apartment, trying to locate her clothing as she scanned the room.?

As Shelby lay there, waiting for Liam to fall asleep, she found herself asking the same old questions, why not stay the night? What if he's different? Maybe this time? She turned to her arsenal of jaded answers for reassurance. The longer she stayed, the harder it would be to leave. Liam might be different but as long as she was the same old Shelby she would end up with her heart in more pieces than she had started with. Not this time, never again. ?

A swift smirk found her lips at Shane's question, sliding her fingers slowly down to the button of his jeans. "I've got a feeling," she murmured softly, her nimble fingers easily unbuttoning his shorts, "But why don't you show me? Just to clarify." Adriana reached up and kissed him gently on the lips before trailing teasingly down his chest. She pushed him off of her, standing and moving away before he could protest. Even though she hadn't been in his house before, she easily found his room, shedding her shorts and shirt along the way.

The next morning, Adriana woke slowly, a sleepy smile lifting her lips up as memories from the previous night came back to her. She was nestled lightly against a still sleeping Shane and slowly pulled away from him. After a moments hesitation, she walked across the room, grabbing her discarded bra and a button up of Shanes that was laying our,to the bathroom. She needed to shower, it was necessary in her eyes after sleeping with a guy. Adriana used the bathroom before stepping into the shower, figuring out the knobs quickly. The shower took less than five minutes, just a quick rinse off using whatever product he had available.

Drying off with a, hopefully, clean, folded towel, she dressed quickly and finger brushed her teeth and hair. The shirt was just long enough to cover all her assets and it smelled like Shane, making it all the better. She headed back into the bedroom, glancing at him, before she slipped out and began curiously exploring his house. Adriana found herself back in the room they'd started out the night before. She ran a delicate finger over the bindings of some of the books, becoming engrossed by the different stacks and the model airplanes.

-----

Liam fell asleep quickly, his breathing deepening as his body relaxed. While asleep was the only time that he was ever completely relaxed, and even then it wasn't always. [[i'm going to assume she left. But if she stayed then just disregard]]. He woke the next morning only half-surprised to find that Shelby was gone. His surprise sprung from not only the fact that he'd thought they'd had a good time, but because she didn't have a vehicle...which meant she'd walked home. He wasn't so surprised because he got the impression that she didn't really do emotional connections, which was fine, neither did he. But suddenly he was somewhat annoyed, she could have asked for a ride back to her car if she hadn't wanted to stay.

He rolled over onto his stomach, wishing he could just go back to sleep. Liam gave up on that idea in a matter of seconds and began getting ready for the day. He dressed casually in a pair of shorts and a white shirt, just having a couple errands to run that morning. After scarfing down a bowl of cereal, he grabbed his wallet, keys, and grocery list before heading into town. Liam was trying to push Shelby from his thoughts, but he wanted her lips again, and it didn't help that her name echoed in his foot steps. He rolled his eyes at himself as he opened the door to the grocery store. It wasn't like he couldn't just be friends with a girl who he occasionally slept with...he'd done it before. He busied himself with his list, much more content than he had been.

Shane awoke with the taste of Adriana on his lips and her smell lingered in his sheets. Remembering their night together, he reached out to her, only to discover that the bed was empty. He frowned. Had she left? Was it because she thought he was a jerk? He knew he should have taken things slower, she deserved better than that. Shane ran a hand through his hair and slowly rolled out of bed, mentally berating himself as he pulled on a clean pair of boxers and stepped into the bathroom.

Shane was so angry with himself that he didn?t notice the steamed up mirror until he had started brushing his teeth. Toothbrush still in his mouth, he left the bedroom and followed the hallway to the living room. His shoulders sagged in relief as he saw Adriana. She was still there, and wearing his shirt, which in Shane?s mind was pretty much the hottest thing a girl could do.

?Morning,? His greeting muffled by the toothbrush leaning against the door frame as Shane continued to brush.

---

After leaving Liam?s, Shelby had had a very productive morning. She had walked home only to remember that her keys to the house were still in the Jeep. So she had pulled an ancient bike out of the boat house, tripping over paint cans as she navigated by memory through the darkness. In her barefeet, she pedaled to her car, trying to think of anything but Liam as rode.

Once she was home, Shelby climbed into the shower so that she could scrub his scent off her body. Rather than crawling into bed after that, she put a pot of coffee on and got to work. She sorted through the dirty laundry and started a load before attacking the dishes, gagging as she got to the bottom of the pile. She vacuumed, scrubbed and dusted until the house was in decent shape.

At some point, Shelby had realized that she was hungry and there was still no food in the house. So she had headed for the grocery store, her dark hair tied in a messy knot at the nape of her neck. Shelby was dressed in a long, baggy pair of athletic shorts and another fitted tank, a baseball cap shoved firmly over her head though it did little to hide the state of her face. She was, in a word, a mess. Her fair skin bruised easily and Shelby had a monstrous hickey on her neck and her lips were swollen. Her shins were shins and elbows were just beginning to show the bruises from when she had fallen in the boat house.

She headed straight for the cosmetics aisle, ignoring the disapproving glances and whispers that she left in her wake. Shelby knew she needed something, to make herself look presentable but she had no idea what. In the past, she had relied on her roommates when her strict no-hickey policy had failed. She texted them quickly, hoping at least on of her friends would be up to answer her.

Adriana glanced over when she heard Shane's voice, smiling warmly, "Good morning." She still couldn't believe how things had gone the night before, and was still trying to figure out how they'd ended up sleeping together. She didn't know why she was questioning the events, it wasn't like she regretted them, but she was. "So, have you got anything to eat? I'm starving."

-----

Liam was easily gathering an array of items. He was moving along in his easy manner, occasionally trying to flatten his mused hair but not to much avail. As he was meandering through the store, he grinne when he saw Shelby and it simply widened as he noticed her state and the fairly large hickey on her neck. Pushing his cart toward her, he stopped, glancing past her towards the cosmetics. "My sister uses that green crap to hide them," he said nonchalantly, pointing towards the green concealer, "Swears it works wonders." Liam glanced casually at her with a small shrug before pushing his cart away from her.

He didn't plan on mentioning the fact that she had left, it broke one of the cardinal rules of casual sex, which was something he definitely wanted to do again with her. And, he didn't want her to think that he was too interested in what she was doing, even though he was starting to be. Liam busied himself with his list, trying to figure out what to do with the rest of the day.

Shane nodded, continuing to brush his teeth as he led the way to the kitchen. He quickly rinsed his mouth at the sink then turned back to Adriana. He opened the cabinets and rummaged through the contents, ?If you?re a cereal kind of girl, I?ve got Cocoa Puffs and Apple Jacks. And Cheerios but those might be stale. Or I can whip up some pancakes,? He offered, opening the fridge to make sure he still had eggs. ?And if none of that sounds good, there?s always the Drip.?

Shane left the decision up to her, though he hoped she wouldn?t want to go out to eat. Not because he was cheap or didn?t want to be seen in public with her at this hour, but because if they went out she would have to change and Shane liked this look.

---

Shelby was looking at one of the packages labeled as a concealer when she heard Liam?s voice. Of course he choose to go shopping at the exact same time as her. She glanced towards the concealer that he had pointed to then looked back towards him. Was he messing with her? Because logic told her that if she put something green on her neck she would look moldy or diseased. He didn?t seem to be, so Shelby reached out to examine the package, ?I?m so going to get you back for this,? She warned as he walked away.

When she was sure that he had turned the corner, Shelby breathed a sigh of relief. She had spent her morning burying the memories of the previous evening but seeing those eyes and hearing that voice had brought everything to the surface again. Shelby felt a heat rise to her cheeks as they flashed through her mind?s eye. She shook her head in an attempt to clear her head then tossed the concealer and a foundation that she hoped would match her skin tone when the green stuff inevitably failed. And then Shelby pushed her cart forwards, turning the same direction as Liam, unaware that she was following him as he made his way through the quiet store.

Adriana followed him through the house, enjoying the fact that she hadn't seen him with a shirt on in over thirteen hours. "Cocoa Puffs," she said after a moments debate. "But first," she murmured, stepping closer to him, a light smile on her face as she placed on of her hands on his cheek and kissed him softly. She lowered her heels back to the floor, meeting his eyes with a grin, "That's how I prefer my good mornings. Just for future reference."

Taking out the box of Cocoa Puffs, she opened a couple of cabinets until she found a bowl and spent a few more moments finding a spoon before she poured the cereal in and got some milk. She lifted herself onto the counter, crossing her legs as she glanced curiously over at him, "What are you doing today?"

-----

Liam was still grinning at her warning when she turned onto the same aisle as him. He didn't have to turn to know it was her, there was no explanation for his hair to stand up or for his body to start humming with energy. Slowing his cart down, so that they were walking side-by-side, he glanced over at her, "Get me back for what, exactly?" He stopped his cart in front of the selection of pasta, grabbing a box of bow-ties before he continued alongside her.

Shane felt a soft smile spread across his face as she reached up to kiss him, glad he had brushed his teeth before trying to find her, "I'll keep that in mind," He assured her. Shane took the box of Fruit Loops for himself, and easily navigated his kitchen as he prepared his bowl. He liked that Adriana had the initiative to go through his kitchen to find her own bowl and spoon but he also felt bad about it. After all, Shane should have done that for her. Did she think that he was so un-chivalrous (I really don't think that's even a word but it's been a long day) that he wouldn't think about her breakfast? Or was that just the kind of guy she was used to waking up to?

Shane stood by her side, leaning on his elbow and resting his cereal on the counter as he ate. He didn't really have any plans for the afternoon, but he was hoping that they might include Adriana. "I've got to go clean up the Spot sometime. And taking you out for a legit date." He paused to take a bite of his cereal. "If you want to, of course."

---

Shelby groaned inwardly as she realized that they were traveling in the same direction. Which meant that they would be stuck together as they finished moving through the aisles. Unless he skipped one. It usually wasn't this hard. She had never felt such a strong need to keep her distance between herself and her flings. It was as though she didn't trust her ability to keep her body away from his. "I don't know, maybe this?" Shelby replied, her tone sarcastic as she pointed to the hickey before pulling a box of wild rice off the shelf and tossing it into her cart."And the fact that I'm paying seven dollars for a tiny tube of gunk to hide it?"

"Do you need help cleaning?" she offered before taking another bite of the chocolatey cereal. His offer to take her out on a date surprised her somewhat and she glanced at him. "I mean, I want to. But you don't have to feel obligated or anything," she said with a slight shrug. Adriana hated when guys felt obligated to do or say certain things just because they'd slept together. Plus, she couldn't remember the last time she'd been on a legitimate date with a guy. Hanging around their apartment or dorm for the day didn't really count. She took the last bite of the Cocoa Puffs and set the bowl down on the side that Shane wasn't standing beside.

-----

"I think you really just want one on the other side, to match," he joked as they turned down the aisle; ignoring the flabbergasted look he received from an older woman. Liam grabbed a couple more items, trying to ignore the hostility that he felt Shelby was putting off. He frowned when she mentioned the cost of the concealer, "I'll pay for it if you'd like." The offer was meant to try and soften her, so that they could talk easily, as they had the day before, but he wasn't so sure it would work.

Shane frowned as she spoke and gently pulled her down from the counter so she stood in front of him. He wrapped on hand around her back and lifted the other to her delicate face. Gently, Shane pressed his lips to her forehead, "I want to," He assured her, looking into her eyes as he spoke. And then he moved forwards so that his lips met hers, softly moving against them for a moment before he pulled back, "I really, really want to."

----

Shelby tightened her grip on her cart. That was exactly what she wanted. Well, no. Not another hickey, but the night that had led to it? She definitely wanted to repeat of that. A flicker of annoyance passed over her face as he offered to pay for it. There was no way she was going to let him buy it, no matter how ridiculous the price was. If she let him buy her this, Shelby was pretty much saying that it was okay to buy her things and he would be taking her out to dinner or, even worse, buying her flowers. She could take care of herself, thank you.

Shelby pulled her cart to a stop and reached down to grab a couple cans of soup, "Oh, you're going to pay for it," She promised, alluding to her revenge as she scrutinized the ingredients on the cans. "But not now. Tonight." Shelby didn't know how the last word had slipped out, but there was no taking it back now.

Adriana allowed herself to be pulled off the counter, her feet landing lightly on the tile as she glanced up at him. His warmth was comfortable and being pressed between him and the counter felt secure. She rested her hands against the counter to brace herself as he leaned down to kiss her. She opened her eyes slowly, smiling softly, "Well, when you put it that way, how can I doubt it?" Pushing her hands against the counter, she kissed him quickly before ducking under his arm.

She grabbed her bowl and headed to the sink, rinsing it out before sticking it in the dishwasher. Adriana turned back to face him, "But, I'll have to stop by my house to get something else to wear."

-----

"Oh, really?" he asked calmly, though inside he was estatic. At least her hostility wasn't going to translate into never repeating the previous night. He stepped closer to her while she was getting the cans of soup, glancing around before he gently placed his hands on her hip. "And, what if I already had plans?" he asked her, his lips soft against her ear before he placed a quick kiss against her neck. Liam pulled away quickly and began pushing his cart as though nothing at had just happened.

Shane watched Adriana with affection as she took care of her own bowl. When she spoke, he nodded reasonably, "I'll drop you off whenever you want to leave and give you some time to relax while I get some stuff done around here and figure out where I want to take you." He lifted his bowl to his mouth, tilting it to drink the rest of his milk and leaving him with a milk mustache across his upper lip.

"Any suggestions?" He asked curiously, leaning against the counter. Wondering what her dream date might be. Maybe a picnic on the beach at sunset? Or would she prefer to go someplace nice, maybe see a movie somewhere afterwards? Or would Adriana want to do something more active, like mini-golf? Shane had a couple ideas but he didn't want to go out to eat only to find that she hated seafood, or take her to the movies when she wasn't interested in any of the movies that were playing.

---

Shelby felt her body go tense as he stepped close and his hands found her hips. Against her will, her eyes fluttered shut as she felt his breath on her ear and his lips on her neck. Shelby breathed out as he stepped away, placing a can in her cart as she did her best to appear unaffected. "Then you have plans," She shrugged before continuing down the aisle, "And I have more time plot my revenge."

Shelby wondered if he was joking or if he really had plans. What kind of plans could he have? A family dinner? A sports league? A job? Friends? A girlfriend? She didn't know anything about him and Shelby couldn't help but wonder what else he was into, besides driving her absolutely crazy apparently.

A soft smile fell across her lips at Shane's milk mustache, it was adorable. She shrugged at his question, walking slowly back towards him, "Shane, I don't even know what people do on dates." It was the truth, she hadn't been on a date since she was a junior in high school and even though that really wasn't that long ago, she couldn't remember what they had done. Adriana grinned as she approached him, "But I really like this look on you, not many guys can pull off a mustache, but you do it very well." With a small laugh, she lightly kissed him, the milk easily coming off of his skin, "But I think I like you better without one."

Adriana slid her hands away from his neck, trying not to overwhelm him with her desire to kiss and be around him. She casually moved away from him, contemplating what they could do on their date. The traditional dinner and a movie was the only thing that she could really think of, but she didn't know whether or not that was too cliched for Shane or not. Adriana tilted her chin slightly as she carefully surveyed him, wanting to be able to know what he was thinking. "The only thing that I can think of is dinner and a movie, but is that silly?"

-----

Liam grinned inwardly, knowing that he'd affected her more than she was letting on, which was a good thing. Her comment made him grin as well, and he was half tempted to really not see her that night, just so she would have more time to plot her revenge. Not that the idea of her taking revenge on him made him nervous; in fact it had quite the opposite effect.

"I definitely don't want you to have more time so I will just have to cancel my plans," he said with a small shrug. It wasn't an imposition in the least, canceling his fake plans, but he wanted to spend more time with Shelby than just that evening. He knew that Henry was still in the hospital and was curious as to what she was doing during the day. Liam glanced over at Shelby quickly before her spoke, his voice gentler than it had been, "Do you need any help with Henry stuff today? I'm not working, so if you wanted me to do something at the store, or the house, I can."

Shane frowned when Adriana said that she didn't really go on dates. He wondered whether that was her choice, or if that's just the kind of guy she had always gone for. Shane decided that this summer he would show Adriana everything that she had been missing. "It's not silly," He told her, stepping towards her and wrapping his arms around her waist. "Especially if you don't date a lot."

Unable to resist kissing her when she was so close, Shane lowered his lips to hers. "And dinner and a movie with you sounds perfect," He grinned, though anything with Adriana sounded pretty good to Shane right about now.

---

Shelby's shoulders sagged and her expression softened as Liam mentioned her grandfather. "I got a lot done around the house this morning," Shelby she admitted quietly, pushing her cart around the corner and down the next aisle. "But there's still a lot more to do at the store. I was going to head over there around noon to work on some stuff before I go see him. I could probably use a hand, if you've got the time." She bit her lip and tossed a couple jars of her favorite brand of peanut butter into her cart. Not wanting to sound weak or desperate for company or something, Shelby squared her shoulders and added, "Obviously it'll go towards your first paycheck."

(I really hope that wasn't terrible or incoherent. The sleeping meds that I'm taking started to kick in as I was typing so I'm not even sure whether any of it makes sense...)

Adriana stepped into him after he kissed her, feeling warm and content. She wrapped her arms around him, nestling herself against him. She breathed in his already familiar smell before pulling away from him, meeting his gaze with a small smile. With Shane, it felt normal to just be standing in his kitchen, actually, it felt normal just being with him. She had a feeling that no matter what they did it would be fun. "So, how used to dating are you?" she asked, turning a question they'd already asked one another the previous evening into a slightly more serious form. Adriana was curious, after all, she'd never really talked to him about girls or anything along those lines unless it was teasing. She'd never really cared before.

-----

Liam nodded when she agreed to let him help her. Good, he wouldn't hole himself up in his apartment the entire day or feel the need to go visit his parents. It wasn't like he could hang out with Shane, he was probably still with his sister. The mere idea made him uncomfortable and he was planning on avoiding the situation for as long as possible; it wasn't like Adriana was the dating kind.

"Alright, then I guess I will see you at noon," he said, lifting the corners of his lips up into a final smile before pushing his half full cart to the checkout counter. In a matter of minutes, his goceries were bagge and he was headed back to his apartment, a short walk from the store. It was just after ten when he got back to his place and he took his time unloading and putting everything away.

Liam picked his apartment up, just tidying here and there; he didn't really do housework other than tidying, he wasn't domesticated enough for that. Hopping in the shower, he tried to forget what had happened in the bathroom the previous night and he tried not to think too much about what kind of revenge Shelby was planning on taking on him.

He put the same white v-neck on and a pair of athletic shorts, figuring he was probably going to work up some kind of sweat while helping her out. After a quick lunch, he headed down the steps of his complex and walked to the hardware store. It was a little after twelve when he opened the door and slipped into the air conditioning. "Shelby?" he called out, walking furthur into the store, toward the back.
