Accuracy Of Ultrasound For Pregnancy

Recommended Posts

In skilled hands, very. Most early pregnancy diagnosis ultrasounds are done at 16-18 days. Can be picked up at 14 days and I'll admit to finding a 10-day pregnancy once on accident. :)

My standard reply is that an ultrasound is only as good as the person handling it.

Thanks for the replies. My non-pregnant by ultrasound mare is definately looking pregnant. Too bad she missed her vaccinations during pregnancy! Wonder what my vet will say when/if I call her for the new born exam???? Perhaps I'll seek out a new vet....

I went through pretty much the same thing with my mare. I had her ultrasounded at 21 days, came back negative, had her palpated at 61 days, also came back negative, had her ultrasounded by different vet, found out I had a healthy foal.

I wouldn't wait that long. If you think she really might be pregnant I would have the vet out to palpate her ASAP so you are prepared.
