Second English Ride

Recommended Posts

Well, this was my second time in the English saddle, same goes for my 3 year old. I know we're using a western bridle and reins, but hey, that's all I got for now.

I got a short video. My horse was feeling super duper spunky that day, I'm guess it was because it was gonna snow a couple hours later.

Enjoy :)

Not bad. Good for you for wanting to broaden your horizons!!!!

Hands: together, fingers closed, tops of thumbs facing the sky. Right now you have what I call piano hands.

Keep your eyes straight ahead, looking where you want to go. Everytime you drop your eyes, your head drops slightly, you collapse the ribcage and put your horse on the forehand.

Since you've said you're in a land devoid of trainers, I cannot recommend ENOUGH "Centered Riding" By Sally Swift, along with the "bible" -- Hunter Seat Equitation by George Morris.

You look great! Nice posture.. the only thing that stands out is that you are what I call "airplaning", which is sticking your toes outwards in the stirrups. Just make sure you keep your toes more inwards then outwards, but your heels look like they are staying down nicely. I ride more western and whenever I switch to English I have the same issue. I think its the difference with the stirrups/leg position. Plus you can see it a lot more on English Riders than Western Riders.

Keep up the good work!!! :yahoo:
