Mare With Discharge

Recommended Posts

I have a 10yr old mare that foaled on 4/2/13. This isn't her first foal, but her 1st with me. Foal was born alert & healthy, no problems there. Plenty of milk (dropped at the last minuite). Here's my concern: today I noticed she was excreting a thin yellowish discharge about 6 to 8 inches in length about every 20-30 minuites. She has a little runny nose (clear colored). Her appetite & milk are good.

Can anyone advise here? Should I get her on antibiotics or wait? I breed horses & this is the 1st time I've seen this.

Thanks for your input!
