Which Bit?

Recommended Posts

What bit do you use on you walking hors?

Full check,eggbutt, during?

Kimberwick, Pelham?

When did you move to something with a shank, or have you?

Too many opinions for me.!

Don't want a bit collection! Already have one.

We use a hackamore on day to day basis as well. Just really depends on what you are doing, the horse, and how good your hands are.

Long shank snaffle is the most common.

not a snaffle, but a curb with a broken mouth piece

A snaffle is a non leverage bit, once you add shanks, you have leverage, and thus acurb

i had the dentist out for our annual checkup last week, and he pointed out to me that it's not just the type of bit, it's the type of material that is palatable to the horse. he asked me to *smell* the double broke snaffle (stunk really bady like metal) i had been using (that the horse would spit out after we were done), as opposed to the sweet iron singe broke that i'm now using (neutral smell) that he seems to really like (takes in his mouth and gives it a lick before gently letting it back out).
