Not a lot going on, trying to stay cool, doing a few projects. Paul got a flag pole up, he’s just wanted one for forever. He can’t wait to put the flag on it

Second time around for this Sahara sand invasion and it is affecting everyone. Amanda has a sinus infection, trying not to give it to the baby but she woke up congested this morning.

She just discovered her security blanket and always has it crammed in her mouth. Gives me the shivers I cannot stand cloth touching my teeth.

Not feeling good. :mecry:

Maybe she's getting teeth? She doesn't look her usual cheerful self. The good thing about weather--it always changes.

She is definitely cutting teeth, has been for over a month now but she has not been too fussy about it. She’s never been sick, had a runny nose or any of the other allergy related ailments everyone has here on the Gulf coast.

I had the worst snake encounter of my life recently.

Paul got his flag pole up and it has a solar light at the top. We've been excited to see how well it works, so Friday night he says, go look at the flag, it's lit up. I walk out on the dark porch, I'm looking at the flag then I realize the ducks are raising a ruckus, they never fight so I walk over, ask em why they're fighting..and OMG chicken snake in the box, both hens are on top of him. Snake’s wrapped around one duck, striking at the other. I screamed SNAKE and Paul opens the door...second time he’s done that with a snake less than a foot away...I yell CLOSE THE DOOR he’ll get in the house and then I jumped on a chair.
Oh and the snake musk, ever smelled it  it was EVERYWHERE! By now I have one goal, to be safe in the house so I start scheming how to get there without having a personal encounter with the snake, who by now is out of the box flailing and musking while two very angry Muscovy hens peck the crap out of him. Let me tell you, they weren't giving up anytime soon.
Paul’s asking me for a play by play. We discuss shooting him but I nix the idea, too risky and messy and I don't like killing good snakes although at that moment I want him gone really really bad!
Finally the snake appears to give up and slithers out of sight. Paul's spotting for me through the glass and tells me to make a run for it. Ok, we agree, on 3, you open the door, but honestly, I'm picturing our timing being off and me hitting the door and ending up sprawled in the musk, eye to eye with the devil himself.
Finn the cat needs saving too now because he has joined the fray on the porch. My plan is to grab him on the way to the door, jump the musk covered door mat which will be no easy task because Finn is heavy and slippery. Picture those kids toy, water filled rubber tube that turns inside its self, impossible to hold on to...that's Finn.
Snake is still out of sight, time to go. I've run the plan in my head a few times so I'm confident it will work. Jump off the chair, scoop up Finn and on three I hit the door, yay I'm inside. Huge relief!! I grabbed my phone and hit video.

Give it time. I didn't have allergies until after 50.

Oh I know! My mom and siblings had them so bad but I never did until I went to college in North Tx. I would get sick as soon as cold weather hit, bronchitis tonsillitis and pneumonia. When I moved back down here to do my clinical it stopped and I have seasonal allergies to pine cedar and hay.

Holy cow, Grimmie!  What an ordeal you went through with that snake attack!  I'm glad the ducks got him chased off.

Oh my lord! I'm sorry I saw that! I had a snake in the barn last week.  It was black with longitudinal stripes and was all of a foot long! It wasn't even scary.

Sorry jubal I should have warned you! I had the hardest time closing my eyes to go to sleep, kept seeing it unfold. We aren’t leaving any more eggs in that box because the ducks aren’t going to leave because they feel safe from the coyotes on the porch. I sure do hate snakes.

We had a fun Sunday at our sons, finally got to do his birthday dinner, it was the 13th. Lyra was so good she always is happy to see me.

She loves to hang upside down!

Hello! Hope everyone is surviving summer.

I finally tackled the out dated tile around the fireplace. First day in, my back went out. It was one of the worst, took me out for a solid week and a half. But I'm fine and will hopefully finish the stencilling today. Need to hunt down polycrylic to seal. It's a minwax product now and home depot has stopped carrying them. The brass needs to be painted black and I'm looking for new handles, probably wrought iron.

Little Lyra will be 7 months next week, how is that possible?!! She is such a character!

No more ducks on the porch. Guess we pissed them off when we moved their box away from the front door, threw the eggs away and scrubbed the porch. They did register their outrage before they moved back to the ponds. :rotf: We thought we would miss them but we don't.

Paul had a great 6 mo. checkup last week. He's so healthy and strong now, I am amazed sometimes. So Blessed!

Need to get off my butt and get back to my project. But I'll leave you with these two cuties.

Sorry to hear about your back, QH. But glad to hear about your hubby's good health. Your stenciling job looks really good.

Lyra will probably be dating next month!

Poor homeless ducks. I hope they don't come back and take revenge.

Wow, the tile looks amazing!  If you hadn't posted an in-progress picture I wouldn't have thought it was painted.
Sorry about your back and the duckies having to be ducks again.  Lyra and family pics were great!  She really is a ham.

Oh yes and a flirt and a huge drama queen. Her mother so deserves her!

Stenciling is done and we’re going today to look for polycrylic.

Had one duck lay a new egg in the box this morning. As soon as she left it was collected. I will make a quiche when I have enough if I can stomach them after the rotten egg/snake trauma. Might let son have them, he’s been wanting to taste them.

Hello

Remember our friend who had a dbl lung transplant last year? He’s been diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma. It originated on his arm and he has spots on his wind pipe and both hips. They told him chemo will prolong his life to maybe a year. He’s trying to decide between that and going holistic. Could you keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Paul has been supporting him as much as he can but it hit him hard. It’s forced him to face the realities that rejection drugs raise the chances of Cancer. Losing his younger sister to melanoma when she was 23 made an impression on us so we get regular skin checks. Paul had been encouraging his friend since last year to get skin checks, he waited until 2 months ago and the spot on his arm was positive. It’s all just too sad for words, to have your life saved by organ donation and possibly lose it to cancer.

Lyra is 7 mo. She ate her first solid food last night...spinach and apples  and she loved it! She’s such a neat eater too which makes her OCD mama happy. Daughter is no where near ready to wean her and isn’t certain she will continue to give her solids because you can see, she is thriving on breast milk. I tell ya, there’s too many choices for parents these days.

Right after her meal.

We love the way the fireplace project turned out. I still need to find black wrought iron handles and paint the brass strip.

Grimmie, love the fireplace. Tastefully done!!

That granddaughter is so cute. I think feeding solid foods is great way to help with weaning. My nephew's baby is over 2 and still nurses. His mother didn't feed him anything but breast milk for the first year. Now he doesn't eat well.

Such a beautiful day here. I didn't get to enjoy the outdoors much. Between eye doctor appointment and then truck repair, my day was gone.

Thank you

The way she went after that nasty spinach, I doubt she’ll be a picky eater. She took the first spoonful with a huge smile.

I feel confident they’ll do the right thing for her. They are the kind of parents who follow their gut on things and aren’t influenced by trends or the advice of others.

Yep, stuff like that can eat up your entire day for sure.

Great job on the fireplace, QH. What is the story on the church drawing above it?

Lyra is very smart. Spinach is not nasty! Listen to Popeye!

Lyra is adorable and I can't believe how clean she was after eating solid foods.  OCD-Mama may be happy now but just wait until Lyra wants to use her own hands to feed herself!  LOL  I love the way your fireplace turned out and I'm so sorry about you and Paul's friend.  That is just heartbreaking.

Jubal, got that at Hobby Lobby for $5. I love old church’s and been waiting for it to be marked down.

I like raw spinach but not cooked, runny green juice all over my plate, no thank you!

Heidi, not my daughters first rodeo, her son ate with utensils at 1 year. None of us can do drool or food smeared faces. Her teaching method doesn’t shame or create issues, she just redirects to show what is allowed. Lyra also has been taught to lie still at diaper changes. She isn’t allowed to grab twist or turn over and she does it with no distractions like handing her a toy, phone, the remote etc. She’s currently teaching her not to grab hair as moms is very long

There have been critics (in laws) who tell her she got lucky with Trace but they will see he’s not a fluke. They seem to delight in predictions and putting Lyra in a box. But Doug’s sister is newly pregnant, they can direct their unsolicited advice to control that situation all they like, hopefully it will cut down on what they direct at my daughter.

Gosh I need to get cleaned up we’re doing daughters BD at 5:00.

Got to spend the day with my daughter and Lyra this week. She’s really getting around, so much fun. Even tho it’s hard for me to get up lol I love being on the floor with her. She actually stood on her own! We were like

She loves scooting over to smell her diapers in her tote!

And loves her mommy.

Look at her grow!  I loved the belly-smile pic.  Totally adorable!

Yeah she gives me all the feels. I’m insanely nuts over her. They live about 25 min. from us. When I turned on their road I got butterflies in my stomach. Her smiles melt my heart.

I was holding her and put a Cheeto in my mouth. She grabbed my face and put her mouth on mine stuck her tongue out and started sucking my lips! :o she’s a character!

That's the first picture of your grandson with his shirt on. I'm happy to know he has one, LOL!

:rotf:right! He had just come from school and hadn’t changed yet. She loves to meet her daddy and brother when they come home. Daughter sits outside with her, she can hear their trucks before she can see them. When I came the other day, she gave me a look like hey you aren’t my brother, then smiled then started to pout when she realized I wasn’t who she expected to see.

Kind of sorry we missed the tropical storm, Texas needs the rain.

Made grain free granola, it’s drying in the dehydrator. Can’t wait to eat it. Last week I made the best pumpkin streusel bread I’ve ever tasted. When it was gone I sincerely regretted taking the second loaf to the kids. As soon as I get another can of pumpkin I’m making it again.

Paul had a stroke yesterday morning. We called 911. It’s a mild one thank the Lord. Nothing showed on the CT scan. He had 4 tests run today and we’re waiting on results.

Thank you! He really is doing amazing! Besides the arm/hand weakness/numbness he’s completely normal, no brain damage and his left leg is not involved. Never saw the dr after the tests yesterday..weekend pace I guess, she’ll probably come in this morning. I won’t be there for it, I have to do wash before I can go.

He keeps having episodes of mouth numbness slurred speech and hand weakness that lasts maybe 5 min. and then he’s fine. Nurse said that will last a few days. We expect a full recovery after time and some PT. He’ll be on blood thinners now which he HATES!!! So do I because he’s clumsy with his hands and arms and I find blood everywhere.

Appreciate the prayers and good thoughts.
