Happy Birthday Lyra! She looked really serious about that cake.

Oh she was! Reluctant at first to get it on her hands, she got the hang of it. She was painting her tummy with icing. :rotf:

Going to spend time with her today while mom gets some work done.

Her in the Max costume STOLE my HEART!  Your home looks so warm and inviting.  It is lovely.

So you know the book. You know how Max marched, she was doing that with her leg, totally playing the part.

Haha! She just found out her nose has holes!

Before it was a finger in her ear then she’d stick it in our mouths! I told her she better never eat boogers!

Awesome! I feel as though I grew up in a library, we were all voracious readers, mom put us in reading clubs every summer and encouraged me to read the classics. I had a friend in college who was a library science major. I envied her and have often thought I would have been happy in that field. I wasn’t aware there was a degree in it when I chose my OT major.

That's awesome that your family encouraged reading so much!  I wish more families would.

You're probably better off not having an MLIS, at least in today's library world.  The ratio of debt-to-pay is fairly awful unless you are a director in a large library system.  I belong to a Library Think Tank FB group and so many lament the time/cost and how few and far between good paying jobs are.  In addition, so many schools are not hiring MLIS librarians for their libraries and are instead making those they hire as their "librarians" multi-task by teaching classes as well as taking care of everything the school library requires.

I love my job but in our system, only managers are full time and everyone else is part-time.  The only MLIS degree is held by our Director and many of our managers came to the position without library experience (other than using them as a patron).  The part-time pay is low, only a couple dollars above minimum wage.  Because of my health, this is actually the perfect job for me as I get to do something I love, it gets me out of the house 20hrs a week and I get to help people and be surrounded by books.  However, without my husband's good job, it wouldn't be possible.  Most of our other part-time employees are either retired, High School and College students or SAHMs looking for something to get them out of the house and earn some pocket change.

It’s great you are able to do that

And it’s happening in our schools too. My daughters bf is a teacher and had the chance to go back to school online to become the Libraian for her middle school. She held the position a year and loved it. And then they eliminated the position and she had to go back into the classroom which is not where she wants to be.

Spent time with my girl yesterday. She is such a joy.

Good gosh HC is so dead. Makes me long for the old days

Just wanted to give an update on Paul after his six month checkup on Tuesday. His numbers are great but for his weight which the team takes very seriously. One of the Drs. told him with the damage done to his kidneys during the corrective surgery, he wouldn’t qualify for another transplant should these lungs fail. It was a reality check for me and I took it as a subtle hint for Paul to get the weight off and take his diet and exercise more seriously. Good thing is, in Jan. 2020, he’ll be 5 years out and go to yearly checkups.

So, it’s time for me to go commando on our diets. The motivation is there, we’re taking a family vacay to visit my nieces in California in early July. We’ll be doing a lot of sight seeing and hiking and hopefully finally make it to Yosemite. I have tried twice to go and had it not work out. Then we have a trip planned in September to meet friends in Alabama to camp on the coast.

Leave you with some Buggy, Finn and Lyra pics. Bugs eye is as healed as it’s going to get I guess. He’s getting neutered next week and vet will look at it

Yay! Your grandson has a shirt! Does the little kitty have sight in the injured eye? That black cat appears to be giving someone the stink eye. I think Lyra has a future in TV or movies. Good luck with the diet and exercise plans.

I loved all the pics!  I have an orange (stray) that is getting neutered next Friday.  Vet thinks he is about 8yrs old.  Lyra and her brother are simply adorable and that sounded like quite the wake-up call for you and Paul!  I hope you enjoy your CA visit w/ family and are able to make it to Yosemite.

 well it was cold don’t cha know!

I do think he has sight in that eye. When he lets me look, the scar is on the lower right and it he definitely reacts to movement on that side.

TGIF everyone. Not much going on here but your typical cold drizzly February. I will celebrate my 65th year next Wednesday. Trying hard not to dwell on the number.

Spent the day with our little muffin yesterday. That stinker cut 4 molars at one time with not one complaint, but hasn’t cut the canines yet, leave it to her to do things her way. On to some pics.

:rotf:oh you know she is!

Ugh the Medicare calls are averaging 10 a day! I wish there was a way for them to know I already locked it in. And I hear it will be just as bad when it comes up for renewal next year.

Look at these two. They are best buds and this is their spot to ying and yang. :rotf:

Caught Bug napping. He and his brother have the silkiest fur I’ve ever felt on a cat. And they don’t mat and barely shed, what’s up with that? Not that I am complaining!

I’ve been looking for Lyra a high chair for Nana’s house. Found this cutie at a resale for $30. It fits perfectly under my table. Cant wait for her to use it for my BD cake this week.

Checking in. How is everyone, surviving winter I hope. We’re having mild weather the last two weeks but just a few sunny days sigh...

It’s spring break this week and no one will be getting a tan, forecast is for cloudy and rainy all week.

We paid off Paul’s truck, two years ahead of schedule...soooo after 16 yrs, I got a new ride. Well new to me. I will never buy a new car again. Got a great deal on a 2018 Explorer and I love it! I joined the 21st century! Lol

Gifted our daughter with my Envoy so she’ll have a car (she has a dodge 4wd truck) so impractical for a baby.

On to Pics I guess.

Shes so funny! She digs in her toys, throwing them over her head. One of these days she’s going to fall in! Lol

Congrats on your new car! And why don't you give that poor underprivileged child some toys?!

Hahaha she really doesn’t have that many, it just looks like it when she distributes them all over the house.

Last night I told Paul, it sure would be nice to wake up to sun today and Poof, God heard me. Hope it stays around for a while.

Flying out to California tomorrow with my son. My brother in law passed away last week and his memorial service is Saturday.

Gonna be a really short trip, Jay has to be back to work Tuesday. I can’t believe I’ll see all my family, it’s been 5 yrs.

My knucklehead horse Paisley cut her back foot on Friday. She’s stalled now, Vet said for 2 wks. Thank goodness the wound care is every 3 days as it can get expensive.

Need to get back at my packing. Say a prayer for my, I’m not a fan of air travel, much rather a long car trip on the ground.

Leave you with some cuteness.

Happy you'll see your family, QH.  Sorry it's unhappy circumstances. I have cousins I only see at funerals. It's getting really depressing.

Love the cabinet picture! We have a picture of my sister with her butt protruding from a lazy susan cabinet. She would crawl in and spin herself.

Safe travels!

Hahaha Lyra would love a lazy susan! She’s into spinning and sliding right now.

I'm sorry to hear about your BIL.

Thank you Heidi. He was so well loved and thought of.

The memorial was held at his daughters, my niece. Omg her home and property is something right out of home and garden magazine. Weather was perfect.

Paul kids and I are going back out in June.

Paul took great care of Paisley while I was gone. Vet likes what he sees healing wise.

The Cherry tree looks like it will mature beautifully.

That cut on Paisley's leg looks like it is healing well, but I bet it looked horrific when it happened!

There's so much pull and flex in that area they would just pull out and make a bigger mes.

How long has Paisleys cut been healing? Our Paint caught his leg/hoof through a stall panel. Rubbed all the hide off his right back fetlock. Took 5 MONTHS to heal!!! We just tried to debride it and used Wonderdust, Vetrycin and hemorrhoid ointment on it for the first two months. It still looked terrible and wasn't healing at all. We finally took him to the vet and he put a certain cream on it and wrapped it. (I thought you didn't wrap horses feet and legs for fear of trapping bacteria in! hmm!) We had to treat and rewrap every 3 days. Took 3 more months before it all grew together.

....... and he didn't even have a cut! It just had all the hide tore off and was raw. I have NEVER had as much trouble healing up any kind of damage to one of my horses!!

She did that on 3/22 but didn’t get seen by my vet and first treatment until 4/1. He gave me a cream, name escapes me, pretty sure it’s a sulfa drug. I put it on an incontinence pad I had at the house and leave it on 3 days. Wound care consists of cold hosing 10 min. Then scrubbing with a gauze pad and anti bacterial scrub until the tissue bleeds, rinse, dry, then the pad over the wound, gauze roll then elasticon over that.

A wound can become a wreck if there is tendon movement underneath the wound. Happened to one of mine when she almost severed a tendon. Vet said any new tissue growth is sloughed off because of the movement of the tendon. He used ringers solution to keep a wet pack on it and we went 3-5 days between wound care. And we finally had to splint the leg with a Kemzie splint he ordered. It prevented flexion of the fetlock so we could keep tissue to cover the wound which went from quarter size to a 4”x6” open wound exposing bone and tissue. It took 8 months to get the wound covered.

We did get some proud flesh because we were using ringers, then neosporin to grow tissue. It was a fine line between too little and too much. I honestly cannot remember how we dealt with it.
